170 Why Didn’t You Stay?
Zhang Li Xue walked out slowly as she came out of the elevator.
Her mind was replaying the scene of a hardworking Bai Qi at the hospital earlier. Although she could only take a glance at him for a few seconds, Zhang Li Xue was satisfied.
Just as she had thought, her heart began to race when she saw him earlier.
Zhang Li Xue had only realized that she was attracted to Bai Qi. But, she did not know what he would think about her?
Now that she thought about it, Zhang Li Xue began to wonder if Bai Qi was still single? She had never pried into his personal business and she was unsure if this man had someone he liked.
The thought that Bai Qi might be in a relationship with someone made her heart feel uncomfortable.
Her feeling was still new. If he have someone he liked, then, there was no other choice for her but to back away.
Her caller ringtone chimed loudly in the empty hall.
Zhang Li Xue reached for her phone and saw her little brother, Zhang Yi Hai on the caller ID. She swiped her fingers on the screen and pressed the phone to her ear.
.....
“Yi Hai, what’s up?”
“Sister, you haven’t slept yet, right?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“If I’m already asleep, would I have the energy to pick up your call?” Zhang Li Xue rolled her eyes. “I’m still outside.”
Zhang Yi Hai frowned when he heard his sister’s words. “It’s late. Why are you not home yet?”
“I went out with my colleagues for a farewell dinner,” Zhang Li Xue said. “You know that I would be transferring to another department next week. Why did you call?”
“Mmm... I wanted to ask a favor. I left a book in my room. I was hoping that you could help and post it over.”
Zhang Li Xue heaved a long sigh. “Alright. Just text me the title. I’ll look for it when I come back.”
“Sister, you’re the best.”
The two siblings chatted briefly before they ended the call. Zhang Yi Hai did not forget to remind his sister to come home earlier.
By the time the call ended, Zhang Li Xue arrived at the parking lot.
She unlocked the door and slid into the driver’s seat.
Just as she was about to shut the door, Zhang Li Xue heard a familiar voice, shouting out her name.
At first, she thought that it was merely her imagination, but when she heard her name for the second time, Zhang Li Xue came out again and looked around.
A few seconds later, Bai Qi appeared in front of her in his white coat. He panted heavily as he looked at her with his penetrating gaze.
Her heart skipped a beat when she saw this scene.
Zhang Li Xue stood rooted to the ground as she watched the man approach her slowly. “Bai Qi? Why are you here?”
He should be busy with his work, right?
“I heard that you stopped by to deliver some snacks,” Bai Qi said. “Why didn’t you stay for a while and see me?”
Then... did he run over to the parking lot just to chase her?
Her face turned warmer as the thought came to her mind.
Fortunately, it was dark outside. Otherwise, Bai Qi might have seen how her face had turned red like a cooked shrimp.
“I only stopped by to deliver some food,” Zhang Li Xue said. “I didn’t want to disturb you at work and I’m not sure if you are going to be on duty tonight.”
“I’m not that busy tonight,” Bai Qi said. His expression turned softer as he looked at the little fairy in front of him. He glanced at his wristwatch before turning to her again. “Are you in a rush to head back? Do you... want to accompany me for a while?”
Now that she was in front of him, he wished to spend a little more time with her.
These past few days were quite hectic for him. But, just looking at her face put him in a good mood.
“Will that be okay?”
“Don’t worry. You are not going to disturb me at work,” Bai Qi said. “I can take a few minutes of break. If they needed me, they will reach me on my phone.”
Zhang Li Xue was tempted by his invitation.
After all, she did come over to the hospital to see him. If she gets to spend a few minutes with him, that would be a bonus.
“Alright.” Zhang Li Xue agreed.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmBai Qi heaved a breath of relief upon hearing her answer. “Let’s go and walk around the garden for a while.”
Zhang Li Xue closed the door behind her and locked her car. Then, she followed Bai Qi to walk around the hospital’s garden.
The night wind blew gently as the two walked together side by side.
Zhang Li Xue peeked at the man beside her and admired his side profile. She could not deny that Bai Qi looked really good in his white coat.
After a while, Bai Qi turned to her and asked, “Did you have a drink?”
Zhang Li Xue looked back at Bai Qi in puzzlement. Then, she recalled that a few of her colleagues had drunk a bit. The smell of alcohol should have stuck on her.
“No.” Zhang Li Xue chuckled. “I had dinner with the people from my department earlier. A few of my colleagues were drinking.” She flashed him a smile and continued, “I still have to drive. I won’t be touching any drop of alcohol.”
Bai Qi nodded. He was a bit worried to let her drive home if she was drinking.
Bai Qi shifted his gaze and his eyes stopped at the vending machine in front of him. He turned to Zhang Li Xue again and pointed at the machine, “Would you like something to drink?”
“Alright.”
Bai Qi took out his phone and asked, “Which one would you like?”
“Mmm...” Zhang Li Xue scanned the menu quickly. “That mango drink looks good.”
With his swift movement, Bai Qi pressed the button on the machine and paid for their drinks. He helped to unscrew the cap before handing over the bottle to Zhang Li Xue.
“Thank you.”
Bai Qi watched as his little fairy took a sip of the drink and smiled. It seemed that she really liked sweet stuff.
