669 The House was a Little Quieter
By the time Bai Xi Xi was done with the noodles, Fu Chen appeared in the kitchen again with an awkward look on his face. He looked at his tablemate who was standing in front of the stove and felt a little uneasy that she had to help him cook.
However, the soon he stepped into the kitchen, the aroma of the delicious broth wafted to his nose, making his stomach grumble.
Bai Xi Xi turned around and meet his gaze.
Fu Chen was so embarrassed that he wished to bury himself in the ground. However, the broth that Bai Xi Xi prepared smelled so good that he could not help himself.
“The noodles are almost ready,” Bai Xi Xi spoke without a hint of laughter on her face. “You should go and feed your siblings first.”
Bai Xi Xi guessed that everyone was gathered in the kitchen and started to cry because they were hungry.
At this time, Bai Xi Xi had a lot of questions she wanted to ask Fu Chen. However, she could only wait until everyone was settled down first.
“Oh.” Fu Chen nodded. He decided to put down his feelings and settle his siblings first. They have been hungry for a long time.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtFu Chen turned to Fu Ying and let her call the others into the dining room.
.....
A few seconds later, the group of kids were gathered in the dining room. Smelling the delicious broth made everyone a little impatient.
The noodles were served and everyone began to eat their noodles. The sound of slurping filled the room. The kids made it seem as if they haven’t eaten a meal in days.
Even the toddler was drinking his soup happily.
“Classmate Fu Chen, you should also have your meal,” Bai Xi Xi said. She had seen him trying to manage the kids and figured that he too should be hungry as well.
Fu Chen hesitated. “Then, Class Monitor, why don’t you eat as well?”
Hearing her brother’s words, Fu Ying raised her head to look at Bai Xi Xi. “Pretty Sister. Come over here and take a seat. We should all eat together.
Bai Xi Xi was about to tell them that she was fine. However, when she saw the other’s expecting gaze, Bai Xi Xi began to change her mind. “Alright then.”
She grabbed a bowl and sit down beside Fu Ying.
Fu Chen sat down as well. Seeing that everyone was eating their noodles made him feel a little more at ease. At least, the house was a little quieter. Once the kids were full, they would stop making too much noise, right?
The noodles were finished in just a short time. Perhaps the kids were really hungry, or perhaps, Bai Xi Xi’s cooking tasted really delicious, but the kids ate more than one bowl.
Seeing the empty pot made Fu Chen a little speechless.
He had never expected that the siblings would eat like a hungry ghosts.
Bai Xi Xi had helped them to cook a meal. Naturally, Fu Chen could not let her help them do the dishes. Fu Chen turned to Fu Ying and instructed her to help clean up the table with her siblings.
Meanwhile, Fu Chen was coaxing the baby to sleep. Now that the little boy was full, he had easily fallen asleep.
Once everything was organized, Fu Chen returned to the living room again and sat across the class monitor. He looked at her hesitantly, not knowing how he should start this conversation. Fu Chen could guess that Bai Xi Xi should have a lot of questions for him.
Just then, Bai Xi Xi pulled out the notes from their teacher and handed them over to Fu Chen.
“What is this?” Fu Chen asked as he took the paper from her.
“Some notes from Teacher Du,” Bai Xi Xi said. “You will need them to study for your test.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmIt was then that Fu Chen understood why Bai Xi Xi came to visit his house. He stared at the notes for a few seconds longer and nodded. “Thank you.”
“It’s not a problem. Coincidentally, my house is quite close to yours.” Bai Xi Xi sat up straight and spoke again, “You did not go to school for a few days. Is it because you need to look after the children?”
Fu Chen coughed. He touched the tip of his nose and lowered his head, looking slightly embarrassed. “Yes. Did Teacher Du talk to you?”
“Teacher Du said that you have a family emergency,” Bai Xi Xi said. “She did not explain too much. What happened? If you don’t mind telling me.”
While cooking the noodles, Bai Xi Xi observed her surroundings and figured that there were no adults around the house.
Fu Chen hesitated. He recalled that Bai Xi Xi had helped him to cook the noodles and feed his siblings and decided to tell her a bit of his story. “It’s the reason why I transferred to Y City High School. My younger aunt was unwell and needed help to look after her children. This was the reason my mother took me and my siblings to stay in Y City.”
“The children... They were your cousins?”
“Mmm... It was just the three of them,” Fu Chen said. “Fu Bao, Fu Yan, and Fu Ling were my younger aunt’s children. Fu Ying and Fu Li were my siblings”
After the meal, Bai Xi Xi listened to the siblings’ conversation and was able to figure out who was who.
“A few days ago, my aunt had to undergo an important surgery,” Fu Chen said. “My mother had to go and look after her and let me stay at the house to look after the children.”
In the beginning, his mother was supposed to be away for a day. However, his younger aunt’s condition had worsened. His mother was unable to stay away for too long.
Seeing that his mother was tired from running around back and forth, Fu Chen decided to take a few days off from school to ease his mother’s burden.
He thought that he would be able to handle the children well. After all, they were always sensible and obedient. But after staying together for a few days, Fu Chen found out that it was not easy as he had expected.
The children began to feel irritated after staying home for a few days and started to throw tantrums.
