Chapter 162 Chapter 162 "You little brat, Todd said, sinking into the couch in frustration.

"Calm down, sir," the butler said, seeing the old man's increasing ire and quickly pulling out a heart pill just in case.

Aaron, a pillar of strength, had tears in his eyes. "Ellie has always been a good kid. No one would willingly endure the pain of separation to hand their daughter over to someone else. The only reason she agreed to join the Warren family is because I, as her brother, have failed to protect her.

It was Thanksgiving night in the Jaslands Hospital's intensive care unit. Layton rushed over after hearing the news. After checking on Carlos, Layton stepped out of the room, closely followed by Alex.

As they reached the corner of the hallway, Layton opened a window for sfresh air, remarking, "So here we are, spending Thanksgiving in the hospital together with the Owens, Warren, and Thompson families." Alex shot Layton a sharp glare.

Pulling Alex into the elevator, Layton continued, "I saw your parents heading over to apologize to Ellie's folks when I arrived. What do you say we go check it out?" The elevator stopped at the floor where Ellie's father was. Layton tugged at Alex, leading him toward Ellie's room. "You're the reason she's in the hospital. At least go pay a visit. It's not shameful to show srespect to your elders." Alex stared at the door of the room not far away and shook off Layton's grip. "I'm not going." He leaned against the wall in the hallway, refusing to enter the room or walk away. A cigarette dangled from his fingers, unlit, as his gaze flickered back and forth toward the door of the hospital room.

Following Layton's gaze, Alex saw Ellie coming their way, a receipt in hand.
