Chapter 226 68% A few days later, Ellie was at work when she received a call. Aaron, who had been on a business trip to Jinerity, had been injured and was rushed back to Jaslands Hospital.

Ellie wasted no time, hurrying to the first-floor emergency room. From a distance, she spotted several doctors and nurses pushing a stretcher carrying an injured person into the hall.

"Aaron!" Ellie ran over, tears streaming down her face as she threw herself over the emergency stretcher. "What happened to you..." But when Ellie realized it was Alex lying there, her sobbing abruptly stopped. Tears still clung to her cheeks as she stared at him in disbelief. "Why is it you?" Ellie stepped back, letting the medical staff wheel Alex into the emergency room.

Alex lay on the stretcher, watching as Ellie composed herself almost instantly. She wiped her tears and calmly began coordinating with her colleagues.

He wouldn't do something like this!" Logan scoffed. "Mr. Warren took a knife for Aaron, and you're still living in denial? Are you blind or just plain stupid?" Evelyn interjected with a calm but firm tone. "Haley, whether or not Mr. Warren helps us doesn't matter. What you absolutely cannot allow is for him to side with Aaron and Ellie.

When Alex didn't tell her to leave, she mustered the courage to ask, "Alex, what happened? Why did you get hurt? Is it serious?" Alex lifted his eyes, narrowing them as he stared at her with an intensity that made her skin crawl.

Haley forced a nervous smile, her voice trembling slightly. "Why are you looking atlike that? Did I say something wrong?"
