Chapter Seventy Seven Amber's POV.
| took a seat opposite Richard's grandmother, trying not to appear nervous even though | was shaking in my boots.
“Are you nervous, Cara?” Sofia asked, staring atwith a rather calm look on her face. Compared to the annoyed look she had on her face before she kicked Richard and Bianca out, she seemed a lot calmer now.
“To be honest, I'm a little nervous,” | admitted.
She chuckled. “Well, don’t be, my dear. It's not like you and my grandson are going to get divorced if | end up not liking you. And frankly, | don’t think that young fool would marry someone who wasn’t worth it.” she said.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Weren't you upset with him because of me?” She frowned. “Why would you think so, dear? Of course not. | have no reason to be upset with someone | don’t even know,” she quickly clarified.
“If you don’t mindasking, ma’am, why did you throw him out if it has nothing to do with me? Did he do something wrong?” | asked because | was genuinely curious.
think I'm worth “I don’t know about you, Amber dear, but I’don’t think I'm obligated to welca man who doesn’t enough,” Sofia responded, and | could hear the sadness in her voice. “This is my first tseeing him in six years, and even when | saw him six years ago, it was at my late husband'’s funeral. The boy only comes here when someone dies, so I've gotten used to the belief that I'd only ever see him after I'm dead and he comes for my funeral.” Hearing Sofia madefeel stype of way, and | finally understood why she seemed so upset with Richard.
“I'm so sorry, ma'am, | didn’t realize he was this bad,” | muttered, not knowing what else to say or how to properly react.
Sofia chuckled. “Don’t bother apologizing, my dear. I'm happy that at least he married a woman who 1/3 skie muld mee managed to get him to chome, because | know for a fact that this would never be his idea.” The fact that both Bianca and Sofia were basically saying the sthing about Richard not liking the idea of coming home, and also with how Richard had reacted when they arrived, | couldn't help but wonder what could be his reason for disliking this place so much.
“Anyway, enough about that silly kid. How old are you?” Sofia asked, catchinga little off guard with her sudden question.
Bianca had warnedthat she had a habit of asking lots of questions, so | should prepare to respond to a lot of them.
“I'm twenty-eight, but I'll be turning twenty-nine in the next three months,” | answered.
She nodded. “Good. | was a little worried since you look so young, but it’s a relief that he didn’t marry someone he’s over a decade older than. He lacks the patience to deal with someone too young,” she explained and, even though | was confused, | stayed mute and kept listening. “How did you two meet?” This particular question didn’t really catchoff guard, but it madenervous because | knew I'd have to tell her about my divorce, and recalling how Bianca had said she was picky, | didn’t want her to judgefor being a divorcee.
“He and | met shortly after | found out that my ex-husband was cheating on me, and he becmy emotional support. We ended up falling in love with each other, and now, here we are,” | explained. briefly, watching her expression carefully to see if her face changed when she heardmention that I had an ex-husband.
Surprisingly, the look on her face remained the same, almost as if she wasn’t surprised.
“Was your ex-husband abusive?” she asked suddenly.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Not physically,” | responded.
“Well, I'm happy you thought it was possible to fall in love again, dear. Most women in your position wouldn't give love a second chance so easily, but it’s good to know that you didn’t let your bastard ex-husband dictate your happiness for too long.” she said, catchingoff guard again.
| felt a sudden clench in my chest on hearing her words, especially because | knew that my marriage with Birhand wasn’t meal and that he and | were the farthest thing from heine in Inve with each 14.25 sat, 2 Mar DG.

“Does he make you happy?” she asked.
| paused for a while, looking for the best way to word my response before replying. “He gives hope, and yes, he does makehappy. | can’t explain how or why, but | know I’m happy with him, and | don’t regret marrying him for one second.” Sofia smiled before nodding. “That's all | wanted to hear, my dear.
