Everett moseyed back to his desk, plopped down in his swivel chair, and leaned back, eyeing the food box on the table. With a casual air, he said, "Cook forfor a month, with your own hands, and I'll let her start the job on a trial basis for a month." Selena was shocked. He really was the quintessential businessman, wasn't he? He didn't even leave the crumbs behind! She was tempted to snap back with a biting comment but paused, thinking it over. If she walked away with nothing, wouldn't she be worse off? Even though she didn't care much about Lydia getting the job, pulling this off would at least give her uncle a break from her aunt's nagging, giving him speace for a while.
"Fine, I'll agree, but I've got my own terms!" Selena marched up to the desk, leaning over it to glare at him. "Transfer last month's salary toright away. The cooking costs are extra. And, as per our contract, I'm not obligated to share a bed with you. You're not to touchagain!" Everett's eyes narrowed.
The money? He didn't care about that. No matter how much she spent, he could handle it. But the no-touching rule? That wasn't sitting well.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHe was a man with normal needs and wasn't tired of her yet. Their brief encounter earlier hadn't cclose to satisfying him.
However, he could hear the determination in Selena's voice, like she was ready to go all out if he pushed her. A good hunter knows when to change tactics. Sometimes, a softer approach works wonders. Everett prided himself on being the best hunter, with all the patience in the world to play this game.
He smirked, "Alright, you can tell your uncle's niece she can start." With his answer, Selena turned on her heel and left without another word.
Everett watched her leave, his gaze lingering on her slender legs peeking out from beneath her business suit. He felt a familiar heat rise within him.
He chuckled to himself, pulled out a pack of cigarettes, tapped one out, and lit up.
Inhaling deeply, he tilted his head back and exhaled slowly, the smoke swirling around his chiseled features.
Selena pushed open the bathroom door and bumped into Joy, who looked a bit shaken, her eyes red like she'd been crying.
Even though they were best friends, the awkwardness of having witnessed something so personal was overwhelming. Selena, usually thick-skinned, found herself O speechless. en An awkward silence hung between them.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmJoy broke it first, "Selena, did you... patch things up with Everett? I saw your post online." Her familiar nosiness eased Selena's tension. They could just pretend it never happened.
"No." Talking about Everett left a bad taste in Selena's mouth, and she didn't hide her irritation. "It was all just an act." Joy's eyes flicked to the mark on Selena's neck, her expression a mix of curiosity and concern. "I thought you two..." "Nope. It's not what you think. Absolutely not!" Selena quickly covered Joy's mouth. "If we're really friends, let's just keep this under wraps, okay? Don't bring it up again!" Joy nodded vigorously, almost like she was swearing an oath.
Selena headed to the sink to wash her hands, then paused as if shen remembered something and said, "Joy, I need a favor from you...it's about Lydia."
Joy didn't get much sleep that night, tossing and turning over bad dreams. The next morning, ske guzzled a big mug of black coffee to wake up. Today was the day Lydia was starting. Driving her red sports car, Joy pulled
into Bennett Corporation's underground parking lot and parked in her spot. As she got out, she looked up and spotted Everett heading her way.
