The next day, Josh woke up around noon. The once-strong elder looked frail and weak, lying in a hospital bed. The sight brought tears to Selena's eyes. She held his bony hand tightly, her voice breaking with emotion. "Grandpa, why didn't you tell us you were sick?" Josh patted her hand gently, his tone calm and accepting. "Getting old and sick is just part of life. I kept quiet because I didn't want you all to worry like this." "Grandpa..." "Don't fret. Now that I'm awake, I'll make sure to follow the treatment plan," Josh reassured her.

Seeing the tears still trickling down Selena's cheeks, Josh shot a stern look at Everett, who was standing off to the side. "Can't you see your wife is crying? Get over here and wipe her tears. Show scompassion!" "My son and I have always been known for doting on our wives. How did you turn out to be the odd one? Are you really a Bennett?" Josh looked skeptically at Everett, and if his health had allowed, he might have dragged Everett for a DNA test right then.

Everett, with a stoic expression and perhaps out of respect for Josh's condition, reluctantly grabbed a couple of tissues and awkwardly dabbed at Selena's tears.

Selena clenched her fists, keeping her composure. She didn't want Josh to suspect anything was wrong. And once this charade of a "loving couple" was over, she'd finally be free! Forcing a shy smile, Selena said, "Thanks, honey." Josh's anger faded quickly. He took both their hands and placed them together, speaking earnestly.

"I've lived a full life, enjoyed good food, travels, and love. I'm content. My only regret is not seeing your children." His eyes drifted to Selena's stomach as he asked hopefully, "Any news on that front?" Selena's face faltered. She wished there was news, but if Everett wasn't cooperating, what could she do? As she mulled over what to say, Everett's deep voice chimed in, "Grandpa, we're working on it. There will be news soon." Selena looked up, stunned at how effortlessly Everett lied. He always flew into a rage at the mention of kids, so where did this sudden change cfrom? Then it hit her-a chilling realization. He wasn't talking about her. He was prepping the ground for Margot's child, wasn't he? So, he really planned to bring Margot into the family! Josh had been ready to reprimand his grandson further but was caught off guard by his agreeable attitude He just huffed, "You better keep your word! You ever mistreat Seleña again, I'll deal with you myself!" Soon, other members of the Bennett family began to visit. Their presence naturally nudged Selena out of the room, but she didn't mind. She was relieved to have sspace en With Josh's condition stable, her role was essentially done. It was tto collect her dues from Everett. After scanning the room and finding it empty, she frowned and stepped out.

Everett was in the hallway, speaking softly on the phone. He abruptly ended the call as she got closer, as if worried she'd overhear.

Selena scoffed, knowing full well he was talking to Margot. She didn't need to listen in to figure that out.
