Saying that, she entered the kitchen. Looking at the fresh ingredients before her, Ji Qingqing rolled up her sleeves. She placed the chopping board down and picked up a kitchen knife, intending to begin.
Lu Lixing instantly came over and grabbed the kitchen knife from her hands. “What are you doing?”
Ji Qingqing looked at him, surprised. She answered him obviously, “Preparing the vegetables.”
“Put that down, I’ll do it instead.”
“It’s fine, I only have a slight cold and it’s pretty much recovered. The task of cooking in the kitchen isn’t something that a distinguished young master like yourself can manage.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtIf Lu Lixing was to really cook personally, who knows when she’ll be able to eat her meal.
Lu Lixing insistently shooed her out of the kitchen. “You should rest, I’ll take over for this meal.”
Ji Qingqing relented. “Fine, then I’ll stay here and watch over you as you cook, Okay?”
“Alright.” Lu Lixing equally agreed.
Then he returned back to the kitchen and continued peeling the corn in front of the stove. As she watched him tediously peel it kernel by kernel, Ji Qingqing couldn’t help but to step forward and assist him. “Corn isn’t peeled like that, if you continue peeling it piece by piece you’ll finish peeling it by tomorrow. There, you just have to use the knife like this and cut the corn. After that, you cut it down strip by strip, it’s very fast.”
“Let me peel the corn instead.” While Ji Qingqing was speaking, she had already peeled more than half of the corn in her hand.
Lu Lixing looked at the corn he spent a couple of minutes to peel and cautiously asked the System, “Is this against the rules?”
——”Providing assistance isn’t counted.”
Hearing that, Lu Lixing turned to prepare with the live shrimps. Although he had eaten them, he had never prepared them before. After removing both the head and tail, he directly dumped them onto the plate. Meanwhile, Ji Qingqing had already finished peeling the corn and all the corn kernels were piled onto a plate. She looked over and spotted Lu Lixing at one corner preparing the shrimps.
The shrimps on the other hand were much easier to prepare compared to the corn. All it took was two to three twists for the shrimp heads to be all removed.
“You didn’t remove the shrimp vein?”
Ji Qingqing glanced at that shrimp, and pointed out the shell on its tip. “When preparing Shrimp with Sweetcorn, you’ll need to remove both the shrimp shells and veins first.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLu Lixing brows furrowed to the point where they could squash a fly to death. “Can’t they be left there instead?”
“If you don’t remove them then how are you supposed to eat?”
Lu Lixing followed what Ji Qingqing taught him and patiently removed the shrimp shells and veins.
Shrimp shells are easily removable, especially for this breed of fresh Greasyback Shrimps. It would all come off with a single peel until it reached the tail portion. However, most of the shrimps that Lu Lixing peeled ended up still having pieces of its shells stuck to it. There were so many unpeeled tails that Ji Qingqing ended up mostly dealing with the aftermath of all the shrimp tails left.
Eventually, all the shrimps shells were removed. For the first time, Lu Lixing experienced the hardships and sufferings regular people went through when preparing their meals.
Ji Qingqing glanced at the other ingredients in the kitchen. Hearing splashing sounds from the bucket on the ground, she walked over to have a look and saw a heavily spotted fish.
“Is this the Napoleon Wrasse?”
“It isn’t. It’s a Grouper.” Lu Lixing replied. “I’ve already asked the staff to find a Napoleon Wrasse, it should arrive later.”
“It’s fine, a steamed Grouper is also equally delicious, there’s no need to trouble them.” Saying that, she went to scoop out the Grouper.
