'She is almost at the Silver stage now... There is no hope of forcefully bringing her home.'
Rio sighed deeply as he felt bitter, realizing that he was still no match for her in terms of physical power. He knew he couldn't carry her to Lia with just his raw strength. But he couldn't let her go to the island of the dead souls alone, not when he was so stubbornly determined to save her.
As Rio followed Helia, a thick white mist began to roll in, shrouding the bridge and enveloping her in its embrace. Her form slowly disappeared from his sight, but he refused to give up. He knew he had to catch up to her and couldn't afford to lose her now.
Despite the growing thickness of the mist and the difficulty it posed in finding his way, Rio pressed on with unwavering resolve. His vision was obscured and he could barely see his own feet, but He was resolute not to be discouraged. Clenching his fist, he marched forward, determined to catch up to Helia and find some way to save her.
Meanwhile, Helia walked on, her heart heavy with the burden of her own thoughts. She didn't know that Rio was following her. She was aware of the fact that she wasn't important enough for him to put his own life in danger, and the thought of the boy caring enough to chase after her in the mouth of danger was, foreign to her.
Previously, Rio's sudden arrival surprised her, but she kept walking, thinking he would've left. The mist thickened around her, creating an sinister atmosphere. Helia couldn't see where she was going, but she kept moving forward, her stubbornness driving her on as she knew where she had to go to meet her brother.
Thirty minutes passed...
Rio cautiously placed his foot on the island, furrowing his brows as the crunch of dead leaves filled the silent air. The putrid stench of decay enveloped his nostrils, making him want to question why would dead souls choose to live in this place.
Looking up, he saw a sky that was as dark as night, as if the sun had abandoned the island forever. The trees were tall and twisted, with rough branches that seemed to reach out like claws. It felt like he had stepped into a world of death and darkness.
'Why does it feel like someone is watching me?'
Rio's vigilant gaze wandered around as he felt unknown eyes on him, watching his every move. He turned around, observing his surroundings, but saw nothing out of the ordinary.
The crows perched on the branches of the trees, their beady eyes glued on him, causing Rio to feel everything ominous about this place.
He was wondering how there were ordinary crows on this island and why were they staring at him, and it made him uneasy.
Were they just normal birds, or were they something else?
As Rio walked further into the island, he couldn't shake off the feeling that he was being watched.
A few hundred steps later, Rio's brows shot up in awe as he approached the middle of the island.
A platform lay before him, at the center of it was a massive tree, its trunk so wide that it would take at least ten men to wrap their arms around it.
But what caught his attention was the strange portal that was nestled within the tree trunk, resembling a spatial rift. The portal glowed with an eerie light that flickered and pulsed as if it were alive.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmRio silently asked Eve in his thoughts "Has Lioness entered this portal?"
Eve's voice was calm as she confirmed his doubts, "Yes, partner. It is the portal that leads to the inner sanctum of the island of the dead souls."
Rio's eyes were fixed on the entrance, deep in thought. He knew he couldn't let Lioness face the danger alone, but he also knew he had to be cautious. After all, Lioness was one of the crucial keys to saving Lia in the future, and she was someone Lia cherished deeply. Keeping Helia alive was of the utmost importance.
The stakes were high, and any mistake could cost them dearly. After weighing his options carefully, Rio made his decision. He closed his eyes to take deep before stepping forward to enter the portal, the boy was determined to face whatever dangers awaited him inside.
His body seemed to lose its weight as he passed through the space rift. His mind struggled to keep up with the darkness that enveloped him. After a few moments, he emerged on the other side, only to find himself engulfed in a dense, opaque fog that blocked his vision.
The mist was so thick that he couldn't see more than a meter ahead of him, making it impossible to find the way to where Helia might be. The only sounds he could hear were the quiet lapping of water against his feet.
He looked down and saw that he was standing in a shallow pool of fresh water, the coldness of which seeped through his shoes and made him shiver.
He didn't know which direction to take, but he wasn't planning to just stand there. So, he started walking, slowly and cautiously, trying to make sense of his surroundings. The fog made it difficult for him to see where he was going, but he had to find the girl.
The air was thick with a frightening stillness, broken only by the occasional sound of water droplets falling, caused by his own footsteps.
