299 Chapter 299 Free-for-all
Entering the central arena, all the tournament participants were wary of their surroundings, looking suspiciously at those who mirrored their opposites.
Probably the only exceptions were Desmond and Mei Fei Long who were looking around with interest and a hint of battle intent, they were just waiting, waiting for someone to give the signal to start this battle.
Although perhaps calling it a battle came across as a bit strange because even when this was a tournament for the hand of the Princess of the Roaming Cloud Sect, the rules weren’t much different from other tournaments in that killing wasn’t in any way forbidden.
So while some might call it a battle, Desmond would think of it as carnage, it’s not like he is gonna be truly ruthless to everyone present, but he also wouldn’t be merciful to those who try to kill him.
Mei Fei Long by her side probably couldn’t wait to sink her fangs into the throats of any Blood Scorpion Sect members who happened to be in her way, unfortunately, Brother Zi had to wait.
As the arena filled, the sect master proceeded to explain the rules of the match, not that these circumstances are very complicated, the only thing worth noting would be that all contestants were required to show their appearance during the tournament to prevent people who do not meet the age requirements infiltrate.
Because of this the duo of Desmond and Mei ended up attracting a gigantic amount of attention and this was certainly not due to Desmond being basically a stranger to everyone present; instead, it was Mei Fei Long who drew attention for being the only female participant in the event.
Of course, this attention was by no means a positive thing, practically all the people present in the place began to jeer in an extremely rude and vulgar way while throwing all kinds of derogatory comments towards Mei Fei Long.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWhich was no different in the box where the top brass of the participating sects met when various high-level members of the sects began to taunt Mei Fei Long.
.....
Annoyed by the vulgar language of his guests and the fact that they were insulting his daughter-in-law, Miao Taolong abruptly started the tournament leaving everyone a bit stunned... Everyone except Desmond and Mei
Silver scales formed from the base of Mei Fei Long’s neck reaching up to her cheeks as her eyes turned silver and sharp before she burst out with thunderous momentum and like a violent and unstoppable dragon she begins to smash with unrestrained brutal force all the people who insulted her just a moment ago.
With a wry smile, Desmond went into adjusting the mana vibrations within his body for maximum performance trying to conserve as much mana as possible as he crushed his opponents by blatantly abusing his ridiculous defensive armor.
Within seconds, Desmond was already charging full force at his third victim using a bajiquan shoulder strike technique breaking almost all of his opponent’s ribcage and Mei Fei Long found herself dishing out echo fists like a machine gun.
Only then did the rest of the contestants react and the pitched battle began, giving rise to a shower of blood and corpses almost immediately, with the unstoppable blade Meng Tao in the lead leaving a trail of dismembered bodies in his path.
The devilish scorpion wasn’t that different either, the long sleeves of his robes practically dancing in front of him as red flashes shot out from within his robes leaving a trail of corpses with their vital organs punctured.
Even Desmond had a change in his expression when he saw the man’s ridiculous attack speed, for even under the influence of the mana amplification, Desmond could only vaguely see the silhouette of Zi’s hand shooting out of his sleeves as he used his sting to assassinate his opponents.
On the other side of the battlefield Lao Zo the flashing fist bravely advanced, evading his opponents while dealing incessant blows, in a style very similar to English boxing.
But it was probably the holy son of the sacred lotus sect who drew the most attention, being a tall young man with extremely handsome features, the holy son subtly crushed his opponents with a graceful combat style similar in essence to the fighting style of Miao Xiauyue.
Perhaps the main difference between the two styles was the color of the Ki, as Miao Xiauyue’s Ki was mostly blue or lilac, while the holy son wore a holy-looking golden Ki as he walked with a calm expression through the arena.
However, no matter how extraordinary these famous individuals from the other sects were, none of them could outshine the monstrously powerful and unstoppable Mei Fei Long who was advancing like a flood dragon splitting the vast currents in her path.
At a certain point, Mei Fei Long began to send multiple individuals flying with a single echo punch and if it wasn’t for her trying to conserve Ki, it was likely that instead of echo punches she would be dishing out Willy-nilly.
Desmond for his part was probably the most conservative fighter among those who were having a good time beating others and that was because he did not hesitate to pour a constant stream of metallic mana into his armor to increase his defensive capacity before finishing his opponent with simple but devastating attacks.
Oddly enough, none of the stronger contestants tried to attack each other and instead focused on attacking the weaker contestants which led to the current massacre.
Or at least that had been the case until Desmond pulled another contestant out of the arena just before he felt a chill run up his spine causing him to jump decisively trying to avoid the source of the danger.
With a spatter of blood and intense burning in his left arm, Desmond, still airborne and headfirst, used his intact right hand to catch himself off the ground and push himself further away when his senses warned him of the second source of danger.
This time while Desmond was in the air he still had a chance to see his attacker, only to see the evil scorpion Zi clicking his tongue as he watched with one of his hands out of his sleeves showing the black metallic stinger still dripping blood.
“Insidious bastard,” Desmond couldn’t help but comment.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmBut as upset as Desmond was, he couldn’t bring himself to confront Zi at this point, among the many reasons was how the other contestants viewed them at the moment; clearly waiting for the opportunity to fish in rough waters.
Still, the main reason Desmond wanted to avoid facing Zi right now was to save mana, as unlike the other Blood Scorpion Sect members Desmond had faced before; Zi’s ??corrosive Ki was causing a heavy dent in his energy reserves showing how superior Zi was to his companions.
Of course, the truth was that Zi was also over a decade older than his peers which were one of the main reasons Desmond considered him an insidious bastard.
Luckily Desmond didn’t have to face the bastard at this moment because while their little confrontation was taking place, the rest of the disciples kept fighting and just a few seconds later the bell announcing the end of the first stage of combat rang.
Clicking his tongue insidiously once more Zi continued to glare at Desmond with unhidden murderous intent, little did Desmond know this was because he had accidentally crushed Zi’s younger cousin while he was running amok in his armor.
Though that look was short-lived as Zi felt someone else looking at him with murderous intent no less than his own, reacting the same way a cat had its tail stepped on; Zi quickly jumped out of the way to avoid the oncoming attack.
One can imagine Zi’s surprise when he realized that no one had attacked him and it was only Mei Fei Long who was looking at him like he was a dead man, at which point Zi had to wipe off the cold sweat caused by the pressure that Mei Fei Long was applying on him.
Interrupting the strange atmosphere in the arena, Miao Taolong spoke again to end the first round at the same time that he talked a bit about what the format of the following battles would be like.
It’s not that it was that complex either, as it was a simple one-on-one duel elimination format until one surrendered or died.
Soon some of the Roaming Cloud Sect staff came over to place the urn where the turns would be drawn to decide the first round of one-on-one battles that would take place after a short break of a couple of hours.
With this, all sixteen remaining contestants came to take their ticket after which they were assigned to their respective opponents. With Desmond being the first duel of the day having to fight against the lightning fist Lao Zo while Mei Fei Long would face the unstoppable sword Meng Tao in the fifth duel.
