385 Chapter 385 Quiet Nights On Earth
The more one is in a dark and depressing situation, the greater the need to relax. A place like the Garden with a warm atmosphere, relaxing music, delicious food, and beautiful women; became very famous within Green Seed Town.
Therefore, it was customary to see a restaurant full of customers eager to spend a quiet moment while enjoying their food. Today was no exception; there was a large influx of customers, and Kira could barely keep up with the orders, which caught Claire’s attention.
Once again, the kitchen bell rang, and Kira flew by with another tray of food; with a weary smile, Kira walked over to Claire’s table, placing a plate of venison stew on the table.
“Here you go. Sorry for the delay; we’re a bit busy.”
“Where is Yulei?” Claire asked, finding it strange that Kira’s best friend and the other waitress from the restaurant weren’t present.
Kira’s calm countenance wavered briefly, but she kept her smile and answered. “Yulei had to go out to do some errands. I’m afraid she won’t be back in a couple of hours, so I have to do everything myself until she comes back. If you’ll excuse me, I must attend to the rest of the tables.”
Seeing Kira quicken her pace as she began serving other customers, Claire didn’t find anything particularly odd. Her attention quickly drew to the plate of succulent stew in front of her; Claire forgot everything else and focused on enjoying the food.
Claire didn’t know that Kira wasn’t lying; Yulei was out on an errand for the restaurant, although perhaps there was another way to describe what she was doing like Yulei was out on a mission for .
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtOn the north side of the city, there were the slums, a damaged and ancient area of ??the town, which despite having received almost no damage during the battle of the bitter winter, still looked heavily worn and shabby. Because it was the most heavily attacked side of the city whenever there was a beast tide, only the poor people chose to stay on this side of the town due to how cheap it was.
.....
With the decaying state of this area, it was common for many of the criminal activities in the city to take place there, from prostitution to drug dealing; the military authorities seemed to have left the area unguarded, almost intentionally.
In fact, many people who had lived in Green Seed Town for more than a couple of years had gotten used to the presence of this slum. Yet, these people were most aware of how strange it was and how little the military got involved in preventing criminal activities in the area.
As a matter of fact, this kind of place exists in practically every city inhabited by human beings. It was an unavoidable evil that could not be eradicated, there were many explanations for it, but broadly speaking, it could be said that even a place like this had its uses for the people in charge.
After all, there was a lot of money in criminal activities, especially drugs and prostitution. Yulei, who had gone out on her first solo mission, was guarding a drug deal precisely.
Two groups of three men gathered in a small abandoned warehouse very close to the north wall; Yulei knew from how some of their clothing bulged that they were armed.
Each group of men had arrived in separate cars, one was the supplier, and another seemed to be the distributor. Still, they didn’t seem to have a very close relationship from how they looked at each other suspiciously.
In the middle of the store, there was a table on which three large briefcases full of white bricks were placed, one from the supplier’s side was watching the merchandise while another man from the distributors’ side was testing the product.
Having heard some disturbing news from some canaries, Sara researched the subject. She gathered information until she managed to find someone with a strong addiction and a close connection to one of the distributors.
After a brief conversation sweetened with some cash said, person revealed some of the details of this meeting, leading Yulei to arrive even before the people involved, hiding behind some collapsed rubble from the warehouse on the second floor.
As for the addict who delivered this information? They had initially planned to do nothing about it since the man could barely hold coherent conversations due to his strong addiction. Still, Yulei knew that the man had probably already been silenced by Revna.
The mere thought brought a chill to Yulei, she knew how ruthless Revna really was and had witnessed firsthand how easy her friend was to murder, but that didn’t make it any easier for her to get her hands dirty with blood.
Yulei had had nightmares for days after that night when she took someone’s life for the first time, but she knew that this is how her life was now, and she didn’t hold a grudge against Desmond for it. She understood that Desmond had done a lot for them, and it was necessary for them to pay something in return.
In fact, Yulei, like the other girls, was incredibly grateful to Desmond, and she was very appreciative of the new life he gave them because no matter how much blood she had to shed in his name, nothing would be worse than the hell Desmond took her out of. Besides, Desmond had given them a satisfying life that they could enjoy after doing these chores.
The sudden sound of a trunk opening snapped Yulei out of her little distraction; it seemed that the merchandise had already been tested, and they were preparing to make the payment.
This time it was Yulei’s job to place a device in the suppliers’ vehicle to track the money all the way back to the source and see what other connections come out of it. Still, Sara also added that, if possible, Yulei should also do something with the distributors.
In that sense, the first part of Yulei’s mission could already be completed since she planted the tracking device when the dealers’ car entered the building.
The smugglers didn’t even notice Yulei hiding in the shadows right next to where they entered. Yulei had a calm mind and was exceptionally dexterous with her hands, so it took her just a second to place the device carefully enough not to be noticed.
Now Yulei was just waiting for the deal to end and one of the parties to leave so they could deal with the other, a few moments passed, and it seemed that Yulei’s wait would bear fruit.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAfter finishing counting the money, one of the parties got into the car and proceeded to leave under the watchful eye of the other party. Yulei had to wait for another couple of minutes to ensure that the people who left were sufficiently away and that the people who stayed would let their guard down.
Standing on the second floor, Yulei took a deep breath, connecting with the ability she had awakened with Desmond’s help. Soon, a mixture of white and pink aura solidified around her hands in a glove covering her knuckles to her wrists.
Incredibly similar in shape to the gloves worn in mixed martial arts, the gloves on Yulei’s hands were white with cherry blossoms in the design. They were pretty beautiful and elegant with a very feminine air, but Yulei knew how dangerous these were.
The aura flowing within Yulei’s body intensified, bringing a terrifying physical strength and destructive power hidden in Yulei’s small, slender body that barely seemed to have an ounce of muscle.
Fiercely trained by Desmond in combat and having learned various skills related to stealth, Yulei didn’t even make a sound as she fell from the second floor right behind the remaining smugglers.
Both Yulei’s silhouette and movements seemed to be as light as the flutter of a butterfly’s wings, but as subtle as her footsteps were, one of the smugglers seemed to sense Yulei somehow.
Like a leaf carried by the wind, swiftly and silently, Yulei’s right hand shot out and barely caused a very low hiss before striking the solar plexus of the dealer who had turned around to face her.
Yulei’s punch might seem weak on the surface due to how calm and quiet the move was, but the force behind that punch was comparable to taking a shotgun blast at point-blank range, and that was already with Yulei controlling her strength so as not to make a bloody scene.
Even so, Yulei’s blow had destroyed the entire ribcage of the trafficker inside, moving and splitting some of his internal organs irreparably. In other words, although he was still able to breathe, the dealer was no different from a dead man now.
But the noise made by Yulei was enough to alert the other two smugglers, who were already paranoid from the start. Turning quickly as they drew their weapons, both smugglers came across a strange masked woman wearing what appeared to be some kind of black tactical outfit.
On the ground, right at the woman’s feet, was the third member of her; without even finishing processing what was happening, both traffickers opened fire, emptying the magazines of their weapons on the woman, hoping to shoot her down.
Poor fools didn’t know that Desmond wouldn’t go to all that trouble caring for and training the girls, investing so many resources into them if he were to send them on dangerous missions just hoping they wouldn’t die.
