QT: Grace To Grass Counterattack System
Chapter 102 Who Let The Zombies Out 9.0The higher ups of the base were all over the place, trying to get as many people as possible into the moving truck.
"SEND OUT SOME VEHICLES WITH FIGHTERS TO CLEAR THE WAY IN FRONT. WE'RE ABOUT TO START MOVING!"
He Yuan and his teammates moved to the gates to help defend the base as the inhabitants were sent out through the back.
It was late at night but the colourful display of elements was enough to brighten the surroundings.
Liu Bao joined the other earth ability users in strengthening the base wall, Xiao Yu rushed to where the other water ability users were facing off against a group of fire zombies, the other team members made themselves useful with their abilities.
He Yuan managed to get his hand on three more guns and a stash of bullets and was blowing holes through the brains of the zombies.
After hours of intense battle, the last of the inhabitants were whisked away and the earth ability users strengthened the wall one last time before the fighters all hoped into vehicles.
The fighters were a few miles away from the others and they didn't get very far before the zombies came chasing after them.
He Yuan was really glad this siege happened at this time. It was apparently planned by a zombie with low cognizance and that was why they were able to safely get everyone out of the base and even their supplies too.
He Yuan's team was right at the rear of the moving vehicles so they felt the brunt of the chasing zombies. They were still fighting hard when a zombie with the ability to control vines managed to figure out how to use the vines to grab people, effectively grabbing Liu Bao.
"AAAHHH!" Liu Bao screamed as she was dragged back but she was next to He Yuan so he managed to hold on to her.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"NO, PLEASE!" Liu Bao said to no one in particular as she held on to He Yuan tightly with fear in her eyes.
The zombie applied more force and Liu Bao was yanked away.
"NO!" He Yuan and Liu Bao shouted at the same time and suddenly, the surrounding zombies stilled.
He Yuan's eyes widened. He'd subconsciously released energy through his outburst causing the zombies closest to the truck to pause and stare straight ahead with dazed looks.
Liu Bao pulled the vines off and scrambled into the van as the zombies at the back began to overtake the dazed ones.
He Yuan felt a headache and his hold on the zombies seemed to lessen. This caused the dazed zombies to resume their pursuit.
The other team members were trying to hold them off with their abilities but after hours of defending the vase, they were all tired and the fact that the range of their abilities were quite small wasn't helping.
"Xiao Yu!" He Yuan called out, when the boy stepped forward, He Yuan threw a gun at him. "Cover me."
Xiao Yu accepted the gun with a serious look and focused on shooting at the zombies, supplementing the bullets with his abilities, whilst He Yuan tried to calm down and figure out how he made the zombies pause their movements the first time.
After absorbing the qi in the surroundings and running it through his meridians, he realized that the area around his brain happened to have energy fluctuations.
He Yuan channeled the energy and directed it at the running zombies, willing them to stop. His headache increased as a small amount of zombies halted their movements whilst the rest carried on as if nothing happened.
Liu Bao was quick to catch onto the zombies that paused their movements and opened craters on the ground to swallow them up, Xiao Yu and the others focused their attacks on the zombies that were still moving forward.
He Yuan wasn't discouraged by the small amount of zombies that listened to his command. He'd only just discovered his ability so it wasn't strong yet.
Since commanding the zombies took too much effort, he decided to send small attacks that dispersed their focus and confused them instead. It wasn't perfect but it bought the others extra seconds to cut the zombies off.
Some other teams in front soon noticed their distress and drove back to help them. As soon as they were able to completely escape from the zombies, everybody collapsed on the floor of the van.
He Yuan rubbed his head, the headache was horrible. The others were not much better. They'd been pushing themselves and using their abilities nonstop for hours and now, their limbs wouldn't stop twitching.
Xiao Yu crawled over to where He Yuan was seated and smiled brightly at him. "Squad leader, you finally developed an ability!"
He Yuan groaned. "Not now Yu."
Xiao Yu's smile increased and he ran his fingers across his lips in a zipping motion.
He Yuan massaged his forehead as he fell into deep thought. He finally realized why he didn't develop his ability faster. It was because he was focusing on the wrong direction. His ability was mental and he smiled in satisfaction when he remembered where he'd seen such an ability before.
Just like Du Jian, Du Ling's ability happened to be psychic. He Yuan had no idea of it was because they were twins or not, but he was glad.
Du Jian's advantage over him would've been that the psychic ability could work from both long and short distances but now that Du Ling had the same ability, He Yuan had nothing to worry about.
As they slowly advanced towards the military base, which was the base closest to the former base Beta, He Yuan focused on circulating qi to his brain region. This helped a lot in relieving his headache.
The moving base encountered zombies on the way but the closer they got to the military base, they less zombies were spotted. This caused them to relax their shoulders a bit.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmWhen they entered the military base's territory by morning, He Yuan finally let himself go and drifted to sleep at the back of the van. He had been forcing himself to stay awake but his head was pounding and he was drowsy.
The inhabitants of former base beta all had to camp in the admission area as the higher ups went to discuss with the higher ups of the military base.
Generally, no base would incorporate another base into their own -even though base beta was an average sized base- but since they brought their own supplies and already had organized teams of scavengers and even ability users, it was easy for them.
It had only been a little over two months since the advent of abilities so a lot of humans -and zombies- were still lacking abilities. There was no way to tell if everyone would be able to develop one at this time. So bases all around treated ability users extra special.
About an thirty minutes later, He Yuan woke up from his little nap. He was still feeling drowsy but it was pretty hard to sleep with all the noise around.
Xiao Yu had ran off to meet up with his parents and younger sister and Liu Bao was having a conversation with two other team members. When He Yuan stepped down from the van, she mouthed the words 'thank you' and sent him a little wave which he returned.
It took five hours for the people from former base Beta to be catalogued and tested. When He Yuan received his identification card with his details and room number, he went straight into the base in search of his room.
He had barely taken ten steps when Lu Ming walked out of a building and locked eyes with him.
Lu Ming's eyes widened. "B-brother Li... I mean, Du Ling?"
He Yuan cursed his luck. He didn't have time for this. He was tired, he was hungry, he smelled like sweat, ash and rot. Lu Ming could go fuck himself.
So he kept a straight face and walked right past Lu Ming like the man was more invisible than air.
Lu Ming stood frozen at the same spot as He Yuan walked right past him. He couldn't believe his eyes. He had no idea Du Ling had survived.
He bit his lips in distress. Du Ling wouldn't blame him and Du Jian right? There was no other option. The both of them needed to survive to work on the antidote to save the world, Du Ling would certainly understand.
Lu Ming's heart beat faster. Him and Du Jian had managed to build a flawless reputation in this base. What if Du Ling said something that could mislead others into misunderstanding them?
He quickly rushed towards the research facility in search of Du Jian.
