Nana and the others were nervous as they watched around twenty arachne come out of the cave and stood in a uniformed formation behind Queen. "Kana…"
Kana turned and knew the others were not feeling good about this. "It will be fine. Trust me."
Only when Kana said to trust her did the others relax slightly, but they were still on guard. Kana knew she couldn't say anything else that would calm them down more, so she could only allow them to get used to Queen and her subordinates.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThe group found a quiet spot near a river not far from the cave they were at. It was there that Kana asked if Queen could help keep watch over the area while the others bathed. It had been a long day, and Kana knew they were probably tired. Kana bathed in spiritual water from her never ending flask. She sat in a quiet spot surrounded by arachne as she washed her armor and dried it after she washed her body.
What surprised Kana the most out of this situation was Queen. Queen was able to be near Kana without being bothered by her death element. When Kana asked how she was able to deal with it, she only replied: "As long as you do not use your death element on me directly, any that radiates from your body will not harm me as my soul is special. Queens and kings who inherit their thrones have a special brand placed on their souls. It will make them loyal only to Your Holiness and allows us to be immune to your death element."
Kana never thought such a thing was possible, but when she thought about it, the brand was probably a contract. If that was the case, Queen could be considered her spirit beast in a sense.
The group sat around the fire. The arachnes stayed a little ways away to keep guard while Queen sat next to Kana to keep her company so she wouldn't be so lonely by herself. "Your Holiness wishes to know about your previous reincarnation, yes?"
Kana understood reincarnation was something everyone knew about on this planet, but she could never speak of her previous lives as they did not match up to this world's laws. She could only talk about it if that reincarnation came from this world. "Yes, tell me what you know."
Many Many Years Ago….
The world of the mortal plan was a much more chaotic place. Demonic beasts ruled most of the land, while the human cultivators were the minority. This was because the demonic beasts were much different. They were orderly and would do things in a more militaristic fashion. The reason for this was because of one person.
A young girl who was half human and half divine beast that was shunned by the humans for being a monster. They killed her parents and burned her home before tossing the young girl into a forest filled with demonic beasts to fend for herself. They dared not kill the little girl themselves in fear of the girl turning into a vengeful spirit and would come back to kill them.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThat young girl, scared and alone, was able to survive. She was taken in by a family of demon foxes. These foxes were ruled by a divine beast who looked at the young girl and gave her the name Chen Yi. Chen Yi learned much from the fox divine beast. She learned the proper way to cultivate not only human cultivation techniques but also how to take in spiritual qi to raise her beast core rank. Her power was great and exceeded others of her realm, whether demonic beast or human. But one day, a group of powerful human cultivators were greedy and wanted to take the fox divine beast as their spirit beast.
A great battle ensued, and the fox divine beast died, taking the cultivators with it. Chen Yi, who watched from the side hidden away from the battle, witnessed it all and drowned herself in grief. She had thought of the fox divine beast as her mother and loved her dearly, but now she was taken from her. She asked herself, why? Why must everything be taken from her? Why must the humans do such horrible things to those she loved?
"Your Highness… At that time, it is said a dark power emerged in this world and rewrote the heavenly laws itself. Your Holiness was able to become the greatest power in the mortal plane. You brought all the divine beast together and formed a new faction. One that moved to stop humans from committing crimes. You not only saved many demonic beasts but also many humans as well.
"Back then, you could not be considered evil, nor could you be considered good. You put down those who committed atrocities and took over lands one after the other. After almost two thousand years of fighting, the entire mortal realm was under your control. You only used your powers when there was a powerful foe that could easily obliterate our armies.
"Your reign lasted thousands upon thousands of years until one day you ascended. No one knew what rank you reached, but you were forced to ascend due to this. Your parting words, I was actually there to hear myself. You said because you would no longer be around that the world would soon dive deep into chaos, and it would be best for the kings and queens to hide themselves and wait for the day of your reincarnation." Queen paused and looked at Kana with a big smile. "And now that day has come. I greet Your Holiness and welcome you back from the river of reincarnation."
Kana was quiet as she took in everything she heard. She could only sigh at the fact that there was only so much torment and sorrow for those who are the goddess of death. Kana looked up at the sky and wondered just how long this cycle had to continue. Why must all of her reincarnations' fates always be one that is dark and gloomy? "Fate is truly unfair, but I swear I will break the binds of this fate and allow each incarnation to finally rest at peace."
