Chapter 483
For a split second, I felt the Grim Reaper glaring at me.
I may be brave, but I had never killed anyone, never witnessed such a bloody scene. The
chainsaw in my hand dropped to the floor as my grip was lost in shock.
“I’ve killed three people already, and one more won’t make a difference. You’ve got guts,
trying to cut me up with that chainsaw,” the murderer sneered, his eyes bloodshot. He
raised his hand in a threatening gesture, trying to intimidate me.
I won’t lie, I was scared. But I couldn’t afford to be. If anything happened to me, my two
kids would be done for.
“If you want money, name your price. I’ll give you anything you want, as long as you don’t
hurt me,” I managed to keep my voice steady. “The police are after you, and you’ll need
money to escape. I can help you get out of Eldoria, and even arrange for someone to get
you out of the country. Think about it.”
My words struck a chord with the murderer. He knew he was a dead man walking if he got
caught, and I was offering him money and a ticket out of the country.
Why wouldn’t he bite?
His eyes darted around as he asked, skeptical, “How can I trust you?”
“Your pocket, my phone. Give it to me, and I’ll show you my assets,” I said, maintaining
eye contact.
The murderer eyed me warily for a long time before finally handing over my phone. But he
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtdidn’t let me have it directly. He asked me to unlock it with my face, then he started to
check my financial information himself.
But all the important apps on my phone were password protected. One by one, I had to
unlock them. Eventually, he had no choice but to hand me the phone to do it myself.
The first thing I thought of when I got my phone back was to call the police. But the
murderer was watching me like a hawk. I had to pretend to check my financial data first.
Just as I opened the first app, the gate outside started to ring.
My heart skipped a beat and then started pounding.
The yard fell into silence. Both the murderer and I were staring at the gate, not saying a
word, until we heard Neil’s voice from outside, “Irene, open up!”
Why was he here again? My feelings were mixed. Right now, I wished someone could save
me from this dangerous situation. But why did it have to be Neil?
“Don’t you make a sound!” The murderer threatened as soon as he heard Neil’s voice. His
bloody knife pressed against my waist.
I held my breath and kept quiet.
After a while, my phone rang. It was Neil again
The murderer snatched the phone away and hung up. When the noise outside died down, I
finally spoke again. “He’s my ex-husband. We’re having some property disputes. He
probably thought I wasn’t home and left.”
The murderer seemed to relax a bit. He returned my phone. “Keep going. I want to see if
you have the means to help me. If you can, I won’t kill you. But if you can’t, one life more
or less means nothing to me.”
His cold, murderous gaze made my heart sink even more.
Had Neil really left? I wasn’t sure.
I showed the murderer some of my online assets on my phone. His eyes excitement.

As he was figuring out how to transfer the money, I noticed the gate handle move slightly.
The lock was secured by a password, fingerprint, and facial recognition. Usually, Norah
and I would use our fingerprints. We rarely used the password, which was my birthday.
Very simple, but only a few people knew about it.
The murderer was back to the gate, so engrossed in the prospect of getting a fortune that
he didn’t notice the movement behind him.
My pupils dilated with fear, but I kept my face neutral. I watched Neil walk into the yard.
His face turned pale at the sight of the blood. His eyes were practically shooting fire. He
picked up a nearby chair and rushed towards the murderer.
The murderer finally sensed something was wrong. He was a very alert person and had
just been negligent, so as he turned around, he raised the dagger and, without even
looking clearly, thrust it toward Neil.
Neil was quick. He hit the murderer with the chair before the knife could reach him. The
murderer lost his grip on the knife. He was already injured from my earlier attack and was
too weak to fight back.
Neil kept hitting him with the chair until the murderer passed out.
“Stop, let the police handle him!” I shouted when I saw Neil’s fury. It seemed like he was
going to kill the man right there.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmI wanted to do the same. But the law wouldn’t allow it. As long as we were safe, we could
leave it to the police to deal with the rest.
Neil was covered in blood, looking terrifying. He dropped the chair and checked me for
injuries. He didn’t say a word, just silently looked me over.
“I’ll call the police. You take Daisy to the hospital,” I said. Right now, we had to deal with
the situation. Daisy had been stabbed several times, but it was still breathing, just too
weak to stand.
Neil nodded. He picked up Daisy and put it in the car. I called the police.
The police station was not far from my place, so within ten minutes, the police arrived.
Once they identified the unconscious man on the ground as the wanted murderer, they
were thrilled and thanked me.
I was exhausted. Watching the murderer being taken away, I finally felt my heart settle. I
took a quick shower and went back to my room to check on the kids.
As for the blood in the yard, I’d deal with it in the morning. Right now, my mind was blank.
I was just grateful that the kids were safe. They slept like logs, and the noise outside didn’t
wake them up.
I couldn’t sleep after the shock. I tossed and turned in bed. And I didn’t even consider
telling Russel about this or seeking comfort from him.
Just then, I heard some noise in the living room again. My heart tightened in fear. I was
traumatized!
“Irene, come out,” Neil’s deep voice commanded from outside my bedroom.
