Xavier soon came to the hospital in Josiah’s car.
After throwing the phone and the car keys at Josiah, he hooked his arm around Winnie’s shoulder and
began leading her away without further ado.
Upon noticing Xavier’s impatience, Josiah hastily stopped him.
“Wait! I have something to talk with you about.”
Xavier glanced at Josiah before lifting his arm to look at his watch. He then ruthlessly stated, “You have
five minutes; it starts now.”
His words rendered Josiah speechless. What in the world is he playing at?
Meanwhile, Xavier felt his precious time was getting wasted with how his good friend was in a daze.
In response, he knitted his brows and uttered, “Why are you still silent? You have four and a half
minutes left.”
Josiah took in a deep breath at that. “Fine, fine. I’ll say it now. I don’t even need five minutes; one will
be enough. Here’s the thing. Since you’re here, I’d like to invite you to an examination.”
Xavier’s frown deepened. “What examination?”
Josiah smiled. “An intelligence test.”
“Are you off your rocker?” Xavier barked out an angry laugh. “Maybe you should test if you’re having a
fever or not. I don’t have the time to play games with you right now. Goodbye. Oh, by the way, don’t
leave your car at my place next time.”
With that said, Xavier began leading Winnie out of the hospital again.
However, Winnie did not budge as she remained rooted to her spot.
Her lack of movement made Xavier lower his head to look at her. “What’s the matter? Do you feel ill?”
“Yes.” Winnie did not bother keeping up with her mentally-challenged act. After all, even if she acted
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtnormally, Xavier still treated her as if she was the Dumbo from before.
What came out of Winnie’s mouth next were words that she had agreed on with Josiah before Xavier
arrived.
“I’m going to do the intelligence test, but I’m nervous and scared. Can you accompany me to it?”
“You’re going to take the test?” Indeed, Xavier did not notice how she sounded like the average person
at all. Instead, he turned to cast a dubious look at Josiah.
Josiah shrugged. “That’s right. There might be a way to treat her mental impairment, but she’ll have to
take a test first. However, she’s timid, so I’d suggest that it’s best for you to be by her side. Will that be
fine with you?”
Xavier shot Josiah a look. “Why didn’t you say this earlier? How long will it take?”
“It won’t take too long.”
Xavier hummed in response before turning to Winnie. “Are you tired? If you are, we’ll go home to rest
before coming back here for the test tomorrow.”
Frankly, Winnie was tired, but Xavier seemed energetic.
Thus, she shook her head and told him, “I’m not tired at all. Let’s do it now. I won’t be scared with you
by my side.”
“Good!” Xavier suddenly reached out to lift Winnie’s chin and grinned. “You’ve pleased me with your
words. Here’s your reward.”
With that, he lowered his head to plant a kiss on Winnie’s lips.
Winnie was astounded into silence. A reward, my f*cking foot!
Josiah was speechless as well, but his thoughts were different from Winnie’s. Did he really have to do
this in front of a single man?
“Please, Mr. Fairchild, can you please read the room? Hurry up and come with me.”
Josiah soon led the two to the room for the intelligence test.
Their intelligence was perfectly fine. In fact, both scored over two hundred on their intelligence quotient
tests, and that was a score much higher than Josiah’s.
“How is it? Is there a way to treat Dumbo?” Xavier solemnly asked Josiah after the test.
Josiah scrunched up his face and muttered, “Weren’t you both doing the test together? Didn’t you
realize she’s actually really brilliant? I don’t think she’s mentally challenged at all. What do you think?”
“Oh?” Xavier drew his brows together. “Are you trying to tell me that there is a thin line between a
genius and a mentally-challenged person?”
Josiah nearly screamed before saying, “I didn’t say that! I mean what I say. Is this how your big brain
interprets this?”
Xavier did not reply to Josiah’s question.
All he did was hold Winnie’s hand as his heart ached. “You don’t need to care about how others look at
you. The only thing you need to know is that you’re mine. You’re my wife, so no one will dare to look
down on you. Got it?”
Winnie pressed her lips together. “All right. Thank you.”
“Ha! You’re really still Dumbo. Why are you thanking me?” Xavier pulled Winnie into his arms and held
her tightly.
His hug was still as warm as before, and his arms were as powerful as always.
Everything seemed familiar, but Winnie knew he was no longer the same.
After taking a deep breath, Winnie spread out her arms to wrap them around his waist.
As she leaned her face against his chest and listened to his loud heartbeat, she whispered, “Get well
soon, Xavier.”
As several psychiatrists had found no issues with Xavier’s intelligence and behavioral logic—he only
displayed partial memory loss and cognitive bias, which would not affect his daily life—they felt that
there was no need for him to be hospitalized. Instead, they recommended he return to his original
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmenvironment, which might even aid him in his recovery.
Of course, the psychiatrists had suggested that partly because they could not come up with any
methods for his case yet.
Most importantly, Xavier was not going to heed their words and stay in the hospital. If they were to
force him to stay, things might take a turn for the worse.
An hour later, Xavier brought Winnie back to Lagune Mansion.
Winnie had never gone back to Lagune Mansion ever since Yulissa and Kylie pushed her down from
the mountain and ever since she broke Xavier’s leg while pretending to be her grandmother’s relative.
It should be a little over a month since then.
Winnie’s reappearance in the mansion took Mary and a few housekeepers aback.
They once thought that Winnie had gone missing, but after seeing the news, they realized Winnie had
never been a mentally challenged woman at all.
As a matter of fact, not only was Winnie not mentally impaired, but she was particularly scheming. In
the blink of an eye, she took over Garland Group.
Furthermore, there was also news about how Winnie and Xavier were about to get a divorce.
Hence, the housekeepers were unsure how they should address Winnie upon seeing her.
“M-Ms. Garland, hello.” After steeling herself and greeting Winnie, Mary turned to Xavier and asked,
“Mr. Xavier, it’s late. Shall I clear a guest room for Ms. Garland to rest in tonight?”
Xavier promptly frowned and stared at Mary as if she was talking nonsense. His annoyance was almost
spilling out of him as he said, “What happened to this household’s rules? Even if she’s mentally
challenged, she’s still my wife. As long as I’m here, you must call her Mrs. Fairchild. Do you hear me?”
This is strange. Mary hasn’t acted like this before.
Mary was equally baffled. What’s going on? Doesn’t the whole world know that Ms. Winnie of the
Garland family had been pretending to be mentally challenged? Why is Mr. Xavier still saying this? Did
these two mend things with each other? Is this something romantic for young couples? Or could they
be role-playing?
