The sight of the huge mess at home saddened Winnie.
Tears were welling up in her eyes, and Josiah could tell she was deeply hurt.
“Are you okay, Winnie?” he asked with concern, his brows knitted.
Winnie looked up and did her best to hold back her tears, forcing herself to remain rational.
With a choking voice, she said, “I’m fine. Please check on Mary while I go get the first aid kit.”
“Sure!” Josiah immediately knelt down next to Mary to attend to her.
In a flash, Winnie rushed back with the first aid kit and handed it to Josiah.
While dressing Mary’s wound, Josiah stated, “Mary has lost consciousness due to excessive loss of
blood. Judging from this, Jacinta must have left quite a while ago. Mary’s wound is pretty deep, so we
need to get her to the hospital to stitch it up. I’ll send her there now.”
Winnie frowned and nodded. “Okay, let’s get going. It’ll be faster if you carry her on your back. I’ll help
her up.”
Josiah uttered his consent, and in no time, he managed to get Mary onto his back with Winnie’s help.
As he walked out of the room, he said to Winnie, “I guess I can’t check the surveillance footage with
you but keep me posted. Remember, two heads are better than one.”
“Okay. Let me walk you out.” Winnie nodded as she walked out with Josiah.
Previously, she had installed surveillance cameras at home, but after Jacinta moved in, she removed
them.
Jacinta had complained that those surveillance cameras made her feel uneasy, so Winnie removed all
of them except for the camera that faced the elevator.
She had already checked the footage from that camera, but all she could see was Jacinta getting out of

The recording showed Jacinta had left about an hour ago.
At that time, Winnie and Josiah were at Rufus’ place, trying to get a better picture of the situation.
If Jacinta had planned to run away with Stuart, Winnie figured they should have already made their way
out of town, given that Jacinta had left more than an hour ago.
As such, she immediately mobilized her contacts to check for records of any purchase of tickets under
Jacinta and Stuart’s names.
At the same time, she also looked through the surveillance footage of her residential area.
Unfortunately, she did not uncover any useful information from the surveillance footage as well. All the
cameras merely captured Jacinta moving around by herself.
Winnie knew it was impossible for her to get hold of other surveillance footage that could have tracked
Jacinta’s movement beyond the residential area. Even if she was to engage the help of professional
hackers, she would need some time to contact them and get the task done.
Just as she was about to make a call to ask for help, she received a call from Rufus.
Winnie immediately picked up the call. “Yes, Grandpa Rufus? What’s up?”
Rufus did not respond to her question. Instead, he asked, “Where are you, Winnie? Are you still at the
hospital?”
“No, I’m already home.” A frowning Winnie added, “What’s wrong?”
Solemnly, Rufus said, “You have gone home? I’m sure you don’t see your granny around, right?”
“That’s right! How did you know?” Winnie was surprised.
“She’s here with me.”
“What?” Winnie exclaimed in shock. “You’re not kidding me, are you, Grandpa Rufus? Did she call you
before she went over? What’s going on?”
“She’s here at the Fairchild residence.”
“O-Okay… I’m coming over now.” Winnie was still in disbelief. She thought Jacinta would go to Stuart,
so it never crossed her mind that her grandmother would head to the Fairchild residence to look for
Rufus instead.
As she was heading out, she asked with concern, “Grandpa Rufus, my granny didn’t do anything bad to
you, did she? Whatever she may have done, please do not get mad. Just keep her confined, and we’ll
work it out when I get there, okay?”
Rufus readily agreed and said, “No problem. I’ll wait for you to get here. Don’t worry, Winnie. Your
granny didn’t harm me, and I’m not out to hurt her either.”
“Great! Thank you, Grandpa Rufus!” Winnie gratefully said as she got into her car.
After she ended the call with Rufus and started her engine to drive off, another call came in. It was
Josiah.
“How did it go? Is there any useful information from the surveillance footage?” he asked.
“No, but Grandpa Rufus called me a while ago and told me Granny is at the Fairchild residence,”
Winnie informed as she drove.
“Oh?” Josiah was taken aback too. “We just came from the Fairchild residence! Never thought your
granny would head there! I hope she didn’t give them any trouble.”
“No, she didn’t. I’ve asked Grandpa Rufus to wait for me so we can work it out together.”
“Let me join you there! The ambulance met me midway and took over from there, so Mary is on her
way to the hospital with the emergency workers.” Josiah paused briefly before adding, “By the way, the
result of the DNA test is out, and I’ve seen the report. Indeed, Jacinta and Stuart are related. They’re
mother and son.”
Winnie fell silent for a moment before saying, “Okay. I’ve expected it to be so.”

“I’ll reach in less than twenty minutes, so I’ll wait for you,” Josiah replied.
Half an hour later, Winnie arrived at the Fairchild residence.
Josiah was already waiting for her at the gate, so the two of them immediately drove in.
When they entered Rufus’ study, they saw Jacinta sitting quietly on the chair. It was apparent that she
was being kept in place by the two men behind her.
As promised, Rufus and his men did not hurt her.
Winnie couldn’t help but feel despondent when she saw Jacinta.
Despite having mentally prepared herself on her way there, Winnie still could not maintain her
composure when she saw Jacinta in person. As a mere mortal, it was impossible for her to be in full
control of her emotions all the time.
“Granny, do you know how much blood Mary was losing? If I had reached her a little later, she could
have died. What happened to you? How could you betray her trust and harm an innocent soul? Did you
do that because of Stuart?” Winnie tried hard to maintain her calm as she confronted Jacinta.
“Are you going to just sit there quietly? Why did you even come here if you don’t want to talk to us? Or
is it me that you are reluctant to talk to? Why? Are you still mad at me, or are you feeling guilty?” she
continued to rant. “You’re already in Grandpa Rufus’ hands, so how much longer are you going to
maintain your silence? Please, Granny, please talk. Whatever the problem is, let’s find a solution
together. Can we not resort to underhanded means? Stuart is not a good guy, so can you please stop
helping him?”
Winnie made a long and sincere plea that finally made Jacinta look her in the eye.
Emotionlessly, Jacinta said, “Why bring Stuart into the picture? I’m not related to him in any way.”
