Now that Eisen was done with one of the important mechanism of this rather unique weapon, the old man started to work on the next. And that mechanism was related to the actual blades. Technically, there were two mechanisms that Eisen had to work on for the blades, but one of them was just related to making it that they could be interlocked with each other to turn into one slightly bulkier blade.
In the end, that wasn’t really an issue in the slightest, considering that all that Eisen had to do for that was shape the blades and handles in specific ways and add a few extra enchantments to keep them together safely. It should be relatively easy to hide those enchantments as well, though. Eisen didn’t really need to think about that part of everything anymore, since this wouldn’t be the first time that he made something like this.
The part that he did have to think about, however, was the part where the blades could be used to hook into something. He had felt it himself, how, after the blades became stuck in the rock on his skin or even his skin itself, some sorts of threads had grown outward from them within the old man so that the blades had a grip on the surface they were on that was hard to get rid of. Well, unless you got rid of the whole part that was grabbed by those threads, of course, like Eisen did with his arm in the end.
It took Eisen a while to come up with a good idea for how to do this, and in the end, he managed to figure something out by simply taking a look at the Champion’s current weapon. There was no shame in learning from the work of others, after all.
The old man inspected the enchantments that were placed on the item and even checked whether or not there was anything like a magic inscription, but it seemed like there wasn’t a magic inscription like that on the blades at all.
In the end, the old man figured that he could very easily improve on this mechanism, and quickly took notes so that he could remember this for something else. After all, it was something that would come in handy with all sorts of gear.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtClimbing gear that let you basically walk up walls because the soles of your shoes stuck to any surface, for example. Eisen could also imagine that it would be possible to deepen the phyiscal connection between all the different parts of Askr’s body. After all, they were extremely heavy and Eisen was always worrying about the wood-giant ripping his body apart with every single movement and attack.
Either way, for now, he had to test whether or not this would even work out at all, and for that, he grabbed a small gem that he would be able to use for the core of the blades later on as well, just to test everything out for now. Eisen combined a few different gems and crystals into the base gem, but it was still largely that gem of a specific element. And that element was the water element.
The reason why Eisen chose this out of all the gems and crystals that he had access to was rather simple. It’s because the way that he wanted the threads to grab onto different surfaces was by looking for weak parts in those surfaces to make everything easier. Whether it be parts of a boulder that were the least dense, or the miniscule gaps inbetween someone’s muscles, Eisen wanted to make sure that the threads could penetrate as deeply and widely into any surface as possible, if it was necessary.
That was supposed to work as if someone simply poured water into a pile of tiny screws. It would be hard, or even impossible, for anything else to really flow through there and fill out every bit of space inside, with the exception of fluids like water. And while air could also fill spaces out in the same way, Eisen thought that it would lack force when compared to water.
Either way, the crystal that had the highest importance in everything working out properly, beside the water-gem, was something that Eisen was unsure how to even properly work with for a long time, since it was more than just annoying.
It was a mana crystal that’s been infused with the Void Element. The Void Element was something that Eisen got access to with the help of Xenia, since when her and Brody went out to hunt together one time, they came across a player with that exact element.
This element was capable of displacing a specific area of space directly, or just specific parts of that space. Technically, all realms within this world took up the same physical space, but they were displaced compared to each other, disconnected completely with no direct access to it. The void element took advantage of the empty space inbetween those realms.
Whenever something was affected by the void element, it would be moved into the area of space where it would be in the same spot it was before, simply shifted away into the space between realms. It wasn’t directly capable of damaging someone, so if your arm was displaced with the void element, you were still able to move it like normal, just that it was moving around within the Void instead of to your side.
It was impossible to interact with things inside of the void, and it was impossible for things inside the void to interact with those outside of it. That was simply how it worked. Brody claimed that player to be incredibly annoying because of the way that he fought, by shifting his sword’s blade into the void while slashing into people so that he could make it re-appear while the blade was inside of them, so that he could attack someone’s vitals directly. He could attack through any sort of defense, simply because he didn’t have to deal with it.
In the end, Brody added the player to his friendslist to keep in contact with him, because he was interested in possibly inviting him to his combat-based sub-guild.
Anyway, this element was incredibly useful to Eisen, because it made it possible for the thread to get through whatever surface and material that it needed to, since it could simply be shifted into the void for the time being. But while it was useful, at the same time, it was hard to use because, whenever it received some form of heavy impact, strong or weak, it would momentarily shift itself into the void. Not only once did it happen that Eisen accidentally lost materials infused with this element because they fell out of his hand while in the void and dropped underground into oblivion.
But as long as he was careful and quickly fused it with other materials so that it wasn’t pure, everything would be fine.
The rest of the base gem were things that were just meant to enhance everything else that Eisen would end up doing with this item. Eisen created a three-dimensional enchantment that was supposed to perfectly copy the spinneret-setup that Eisen used to create thread. This item wasn’t supposed to create physical, permanent thread, but instead just create something similar out of mana that would end up disappearing without a trace. As such, there was no need to use something like a spider’s spinneret like that. And of course, other than that, Eisen also made use of Sal’s thread-control so that he could make sure those mana-threads would really move deeper and deeper into whatever surface they needed to, when prompted to.
After that, when it came to the mana inscription, Eisen just made sure to describe the way that the threads were supposed to act when moving through things. That they were supposed to act like water, to always seek out the place where they were most likely to get through without problem.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAnd then, all that he had to do was actually test it out. In order to do so, he didn’t place the blades around it immediately. After all, it would end up being a waste of time if it didn’t work in the first place. So instead, Eisen placed a mana-crystal version of one of the blades around one of the special crystal spinnerets. He stepped outside and quickly created a large boulder with the help of his element, before pushing the tip of the mana-crystal dagger into it.
Then, all the old man did was push his mana into the crystal blade before already feeling something change. And really, all that Eisen did. He didn’t even push the blade very deep into the rock surface, maybe a centimeter or so, but when he let go the crystal blade stayed inside of it, stuck as if it had been fused to the boulder.
With a satisfied smile, Eisen tried to pull on the crystal blade a few times, and he actually managed to lift the boulder up before getting the blade out. But at the same time, after deactivating the enchantment, he could pull it out with ease.
"Alright then, this is perfect." The old man muttered quietly to himself. This small item, that crystal-spinneret, was incredibly useful, just like the old man thought it was, "Maybe I should try and mass-produce this somehow..." He muttered quietly, before he made his way back into his portable shop, where his elemental spirit had already gotten everything that he needed for the blades ready for him, and even placed the metal ingots into the forge already.
Excited to make such an interesting item, Eisen grabbed the metal the moment that it was ready, and quickly got started to work with it so that he could finish everything up. In the end, the shape of the blades wasn’t really that complex. All that he had to pay attention to was that he could properly interlock them with each other, which he did by just carving specific patterns into the flat sides of the two blades.
The old man finished the blades rather quickly, and then just had to place the crystal spinneret into the hollow part that he prepared before covering it back up and placing the handle onto the blades.
And into the end of the handles, Eisen placed the spatial gems that were meant to produce the infinitely-long chains onto the tip of the handles, and then just pressed the two blades together once they were done.
Eisen turned around and gave this last item to the Champion standing behind him with awe in her eyes, more than just ready to finally try all these new items out.
