447 Saving the maiden in danger
Vincent stopped using Overheat in case he needed the remaining five minutes and approached Jun Ye Rim. He saw blood on her white hair. Based on the location of the red hair strands, she took a blunt blow to the back of her head.
Vincent urgently inspected her condition and sighed in relief. Unlike the other three who were lying on the ground not too far away from her, Jun Ye Rim’s condition wasn’t as bad as theirs.
“Wake up, sleeping beauty. Fortunately, you don’t have a concussion, unlike the three over there. Your head is really a tough nut to crack.” Vincent gently tapped on Jun Ye Rim’s face.
“Ahh!” *Slap* Jun Ye Rim slapped Vincent when she saw his face too close to her.
“I came to save you.” *Sigh* Vincent shook his head. He momentarily forgot she would have a reaction like this.
“I-I didn’t mean to do that... ” Jun Ye Rim said before she abruptly paused. What transpired temporarily dulled her pain. As her senses gradually returned, pain rushed from the back of her head. “Ouch. My head.”
Vincent helped Jun Ye Rim lean her body on a tree. “Could you explain what happened?” He calmly asked.
Jun Ye Rim held the back of her head with a piece of fabric Vincent gave her. Shortly, she slowly retold what transpired.
The story began with how they stopped to eat a light snack for food Clair made and how it tasted different than usual. The taste wasn’t that of spoiled food, but it tasted unnatural. As if spices that didn’t match with the food weren’t added.
.....
Jun Ye Rim was asked multiple times not to be shy and join them. She ended up eating the food offered to her.
Next was about how the six of them ran after a wild boar, but it was strange. The boar couldn’t be found. Later, the teen who saw the boar shouted that she saw it again.
Melissa was about to start running again, but the teen suggested splitting up as she saw the wild boar take a sudden turn. They went with her plan, and a problem appeared. One of the six was missing when they met a minute later.
Jun Ye Rim used Blemish and found the missing teammate a while later. Just when she was about to inform the others, the teen who saw the boar twice reached Jun Ye Rim first.
The teen told Jun Ye Rim to go together in a hurry because the missing friend had fainted many times recently. She worried her friend would fall in a bad position and get hurt.
Jun Ye Rim decided to lead her. Shortly, the next time Jun Ye Rim opened her eyes, Vincent was kneeling on one knee and his hand on her cheek.
“That is all I remember.” Jun Ye Rim explained.
[It’s worse than we thought. That bitch set us up! She begged us to find her teammates and Jun Ye Rim. But now we learned how she knocked the four of you and...]
“Was her target Melissa all along? She is the only one missing. Not to mention how her father is the headmaster of the academy.” Vincent interrupted.

“Jun Ye Rim. Stay here while we search for Melissa. I will come for you later, okay?” Vincent said while standing up.
“I don’t need your help, but I feel like sitting at the moment. You can go and do what you want.” Jun Ye Rim responded.
Her words were of a person disliking Vincent’s presence, yet her tone was that of a person who didn’t want him to go. As if she didn’t want to be left alone with a broken arm and a head hurting.
Vincent winked. “Be more honest with your heart next time.” He said before leaving her alone with three fainted teens on the ground.
Vincent dashed away while using Overheat again. It took only thirty seconds with his speed to hear a scream. It sounded more famine than masculine, making it more probable to be Melissa’s voice.
“AHHH!” *sniff* “HELP!”
Melissa entered his view a few moments later. A large boar was chasing her. The boar was a little smaller than the Great Yok Boar, yet it was dangerous nonetheless.
Melissa’s frantic running, crying, and shouting overshadowed the movement of the large boar. The large boar’s hoofs didn’t make too much noise, and its speed was somewhat slow even if it was running.
The closer Vincent approached and the more he saw the large boar, the stranger it looked.
The large boar looked fierce with the drool falling, vicious glare, and charging even if a branch was in the way. The skin looked tight with its body, and the ribcage was visible from a couple of meters away. The large boar looked like it didn’t eat for days, and Melissa was its meal.

“Melissa. Run towards me!” Vincent shouted. The large boar was a close combat-type enemy. One where a beginner mage of Melissa’s level couldn’t fight alone. She would be dead before her Fire Ball chant gets finished.
Melissa turned her head and saw Vincent. She became so happy to see Vincent that she got distracted, and her foot stepped on the other. Melissa tumbled to the ground.
Melissa was two meters away from certain death now.
Vincent summoned three swords. Each one was held between two fingers. “Look here, you bag of bones!” He shouted with all the bloodlust he could musted in a second. He swung his arm and threw three swords at the large boar a second later.
*Squeal!* One sword stabbed its shoulder. The other two landed on the ribcage, protecting it from a fatal injury. However, because the bones were frail for an entire month, many of the ribcage bones broke from the impact.
The large boar altered its path and slammed into a tree. However, even if the large boar was in pain, it shook its head and raised its body on its hind legs to crush Melissa under its hooves.
Melissa squinted her eyes in fear and raised her hands as if they could protect her from a large boar’s stomp. Shortly, shade and a strong back covered her view.
*Thud!* Vincent caught the large falling boar.
“Haa!” Vincent pushed the large boar back with his strength and shouted “Shatter!” while jamming his curled claw-like fingers in the boar’s neck.
Mana channeled from within his body directly into his gauntlet. Soon, a chaotic root of mana rushed into the boar’s neck like a lightning strike. When the neck muscles became severed, Vincent effortlessly turned the large head the other way around.
[Vincent! Five meters behind us is another one! It is also skinny and quiet on its hoves!]
Vincent turned his body. He felt winded after mistakenly using too much mana. Continuing fighting wouldn’t be too much if he didn’t take a good look at Melissa’s condition.
Melissa’s ankle was swollen after only a few seconds had passed. Furthermore, her gaze looked dull, as if she was on the brink of passing out. Blood was on her hair, quite similar to Jun Ye Rim and the other three teens.
“Kazumi. Do it now.” Vincent asked. His vision turned dark, and Kazumi floating in front of him, appeared next.

Vincent scratched his cheek and answered, “I used too much mana again, hehe. Now I am out of juice, and my body feels tired. Using Shatter with my mana is going to be a last resort move until I get the hang of it.”
[Heh... well. You can’t cast spells unless we use some or all of the Soul Power available. You have a four hundred Soul Power currently. I hope it is enough to learn an ice spell.]
“Yes. That can work. I don’t know if I could protect Melissa safely without you.” Vincent was so focused on learning Force Shock and mastering Shatter that he forgot of the constant ice spells he absorbed.
[Hehe. I am the most intelligent after all.]
Kazumi based and her wisp body shone brighter, reflecting how much happy she felt.
Vincent went to sit on the emerald treasure chest and closed his eyes. He recalled the memories where his eyes saw Maria shooting an icicle at him and the feeling of holding and absorbing the cold mana.
