Chapter 204
Artemis shook his head and sighed.
Forget it. I'm only here to test the waters with Justin. Now that I know the issues he has to face, I can't
pressure him anymore. If Veronique wants Justin to know about the kid, she'll come to look for him
herself.
Artemis was an outsider to the situation, and it was best if he did not get involved.
“Artemis, you're acting strange today. It's almost as if you're hiding something from me.”
Artemis tilted his head back and downed the red wine.
“You know how it goes. Veronique is close to Bailey; I'm only speaking on her behalf to please Bailey.
Since you don't intend to marry Veronique, I'll have to say the two of you are not fated to be. I'll leave
first, so carry on with what you were doing earlier.”
With that said, he turned to leave the room.
At that, Justin quickly said, “I'm going to the Luther family's infirmary this afternoon, so inform the
person in charge there about my visit.”
Artemis halted in his tracks and turned to look at him. “You have something to do there?”
Justin lowered his head to conceal the glint in his eyes as he answered, “I'm going to check the blood
samples in the blood bank as usual.”
“I see. I'll inform the person in charge of the infirmary later.”
A week later, Bailey was at the pharmaceutical factory.
“Ms. Jefferson, this is great news! Our third clinical trial was a success! If we succeed one more time,
this new medication can enter the market!”
Bailey smiled before raising her hand to massage her temples. In a soft voice, she said, “We have a
ninety percent chance of succeeding in the fourth trial, so keep a close eye on it. Remember to come to
me right away if anything crops up.”

In a private mansion in the suburbs, Cadence was holding onto a glass of red wine by the tall windows
as a man in black behind him gave his report.
“Mr. White, I have news from the employees in Drug Administration. Supposedly, the anti-cancer
medication that Bailey is in charge of has succeeded in its third clinical trial. If the fourth trial goes
through, that medication will be made available in the market.”
“Is that so?” Cadence lifted a brow and chuckled. “A month has gone by in a blink of an eye. It seems
like Bailey's quite an impressive individual. She actually overcame the bottleneck of the research in a
mere thirty days. I look forward to seeing this medication on the market. I'd love to watch Bailey fall
from the sky and straight to hell, and I'd like to see her experience what it's like to have everyone look
at her in contempt.”
“Are we going to continue with our original plan?”
“There's no rush, so let's give it a little while longer. We'll only strike when they celebrate their fourth
trial's success. Have you connected with the people I've asked you to?”
“Yes, I've done what you've told me to do.”
“Very well, you can leave now. Wait for my news.”
At the medical base's study, Justin was staring at the blood sample in his hands with a complicated
look on his face.
That bottle of blood was something he retrieved from the Luther family's infirmary a few days ago. After
testing it, he received confirmation that the bottle contained Simon's blood.
In other words, the boy had taken Artemis' blood sample back then, and Zayron was Artemis' son.
Beep, beep, beep!
The phone on the table rang, and when he grabbed the phone and glanced at the screen, he froze.
The number was from an unknown caller, but he was familiar with that number, for the owner of that
number had once sent him countless messages of love.
Justin never replied to any of those messages.
A moment of hesitation later, he picked up the call.
“Who's this?” he asked in an icy tone despite knowing who it was.
They should not be speaking to each other at all.
“I-I'm Veronique Revelle. Mr. Xuereb, I have something to talk to you about, so I'd like to invite you out.
Would it be convenient for you?”
Justin's fingers shook, and he nearly dropped his phone.
“Ms. Revelle, I have a fiancée, so it isn't appropriate for me to meet with someone of the opposite sex.
Please just tell me what you have to say over the phone. It'll be the same.”
“It isn't!” Veronique cried out. “I really have to meet you. Room 205 on the second floor of Sugar and
Spice Café. I won't leave until I see you tonight.”
“Vero—”
Before he could even finish his sentence, the beeping tone came from the other end of the line.
Justin could only stare at the dim screen on his phone with a frown.
After staying seated in his spot for twenty whole minutes, he finally stood up, grabbed the car keys on
the table, and left the study.
When Veronique saw Justin entering the room at Sugar and Spice Café, she let out a sigh of relief.
“You're here.”
Justin did not reply to that. Instead, he sat down on the seat opposite her and said, “Go on. Why were
you looking for me?”
Veronique glanced at him before pointing at the cup in front of him. “The temperature should be perfect
right now. Try it.”
A hint of impatience flashed past Justin's face, and he picked up the cup to take a sip from it in a
frustrated manner.
“I'm here, and I've drunk your coffee. Will you tell me what your aim is now?”
Veronique pursed her lips and muttered sadly, “Justin, do you hate me that much? Is my love for you
that disgusting? Did my feelings of adoration back then leave no mark in your heart at all?”

Justin slammed the cup in his hand onto the table and uttered, “Ms. Veronique, did you invite me out so
late in the night to say these things? I'm sorry, but I can't be your listener. You should know that I have
a fiancée, and we're about to marry. Please have mercy on me, and don't create any issues for my
marriage, okay?”
Veronique's eyes widened, the tears in them threatening to spill. “Justin, am I that unbearable for you?
Can I never be worthy of you?”
“That's enough,” Justin snapped, standing up. “I've already said what I needed to say seven years ago,
so stop looking for me. That crush of yours is your problem and not mine. There are plenty of women
who have a crush on me, so are you telling me that I'm supposed to marry them all?”
Veronique bit down hard on her lower lip as more tears welled up in her eyes. She then cried out, “I
thought I could forget about you, but seven years have passed, and the reality is that I can never
remove you from my world. Justin Xuereb, I love you. I really, really love you.”
“Shut up!”
The veins on Justin's temple popped. As he ruthlessly stared at her, he uttered, “Don't love me. I'm
terrified of your love tainting my blissful marriage.”
Plop.
Tears rolled down Veronique's cheeks and fell onto the smooth surface of the table, forming a small
rippling puddle.
Nonetheless, Justin turned away and mercilessly said, “Don't appear in my line of sight ever again. I
genuinely abhor you.”
With that said, he turned to leave.
However, just as he took a step forward, his knees abruptly buckled and forced him back on the couch.
“Y-You spiked the coffee?”
Veronique stood up from the chair and walked over to him. “That's right. I spiked the coffee with a
narcotic and an aphrodisiac.”
Justin's eyes widened at that. He stammered, “W-What are you trying to do?”
