Chapter 485
Following Vincent's confession, the ugly truth, which had been deeply buried for years, was finally
brought to light again.
Lionel's mother, Constance, and Fiona were bosom friends. For decades, they were as close as blood-
related sisters. Their deep bond remained the same even after their marriage.
A few years back, the two families had been considered good friends. Both parties even intended for
Lionel and Victoria to marry each other. That way, their relationship could grow closer than just friends.
However, things began to change when Constance was diagnosed with stomach cancer.
Because of the illness, she became pale and lost a lot of weight in a short time. She was no longer as
radiant and beautiful as she was before. That was when Benjamin began to get funny ideas and had
his eyes on other women, which soon became a common occurrence.
What made it more outrageous was how Benjamin acted one way to somebody's face and another to
somebody's back. His actions were purely hideous and revolting.
In front of everybody, he was a warm and caring husband who was extremely attentive to his sick wife.
He perfectly showcased what a model couple was like, and his behavior undoubtedly touched the
hearts of many.
But behind everyone's back, he was the complete opposite. He kept mistresses and fooled around with

Later, Constance gradually felt that Benjamin had changed. Nonetheless, she did not share her woes
with her son. Since she had no confidants around her to vent her grievances, she could only share
them with Fiona.
Fiona had an impatient character. After learning about Benjamin's inhuman acts, she was infuriated
and declared that she would gather evidence of him having affairs and publicize it so that his reputation
would be torn to shreds.
After several days of investigations, she successfully collected enough evidence. Unfortunately, she
was murdered before she could even reveal the contents.
Everyone believed that Fiona had fallen off the cliff while driving because of faulty brakes on her car.
Of course, that was also the result of the police investigations.
However, Constance later found out that her best friend's death was all pre-planned by Benjamin.
Worried that he would lose everything after Fiona revealed the videos, Benjamin had ordered someone
to tamper with the brakes on her car, thus leading to the accident.
Constance was overwhelmed with guilt toward her best friend after learning about the truth. Yet, she
dared not expose Benjamin's wrongdoings at the thought of Lionel.
She figured that Lionel still had to depend on Benjamin for a living. She was worried that Lionel would
end up in misfortune if she offended Benjamin.
Hence, she chose death. In the quiet of the night, she took sleeping pills to end her life.
The public assumed she passed away because she had lost her battle with sickness.
Nobody knew that she had chosen to end her life because of her guilt toward Fiona and her utter
disappointment in Benjamin.
“Before your mother passed away, she sent me a message that revealed the truth. She said that the
Gezmond family had done the Saunders family wrong. She hoped I could take revenge on your father
and break you and Vicky apart if possible. There's a blood feud between the two of you. Forcing you
two together will only put you both in torture, so it was probably a better choice to end things quickly.
That's how the tragedy happened seven years ago.”
Without a doubt, that was too huge a blow for Lionel. He stumbled a few steps before slumping back
onto the couch.
That painful past has concealed so many ugly and filthy schemes that were all laden with blood and
sin. So it turns out that it was not the Saunders family that owed the Gezmond family, but the other way
round. My father killed Victoria's mother and destroyed the Saunders family. My father betrayed my
mother and left her with no choice but to end her own life. That merciless man had destroyed two
families, and yet he acted like he was the innocent party and left me with so much hatred before he
died. Because of this, I used revenge as an excuse and thought it was reasonable to torture the woman
I love and owe the most.

No. No way. It was all wrong. My father had it coming. He deserves to die. But we owe the Saunders
family so much. Why did I destroy them for such a heartless and ungrateful man?
Seeing how the truth had completely crushed Lionel, Vincent heaved a helpless sigh. “I have no
intention of revealing all these grudges to you. My daughter is pregnant. I want to see her live a blissful
marriage. But I'm worried you'll misunderstand that I killed your father and eventually divert all your
hatred to my daughter. I don't want her to suffer any more brainless attacks and torture; that's why I
decided to tell you the truth. Now that you know what happened, I truly hope you can treat my daughter
well. She did no wrong. She's the most innocent one in our family feud.”
Following a few light coughs, Lionel wiped off the bloodstains on the corner of his lips. He then
stumbled up from the couch, walked up to the bed, and went down on his knees.
“I'm sorry for ruining Victoria. Had I learned the truth earlier, I wouldn't have brought her into this mess;
neither would I have forcefully gotten her pregnant. My mother was right. It's not right for two people
with a deep-rooted blood feud to be together, or they'll suffer for life.”
“No...” Vincent grew agitated and started coughing violently again.
“You mustn't think of it that way, Lionel. Don't have any guilt in you. I still want to entrust my daughter
and my grandson to you. You must not dwell on the past or think about repenting. Promise me.
Promise me you will take good care of Vicky and her child.”
Vincent tried to grab Lionel's arm as he said those words. Unfortunately, he lost his balance and
crashed straight onto the floor.
