Chapter 663 Capture The Leader
As with all things, one can't make an omelet without breaking eggs. It is an unchanging truth.
She had won Artemis' love but was destined to let down Edmund and his deep, unwavering affection.
Neither of them was a saint. They could not be perfect.
The man before her stirred feelings of heartache and pity, yet she was powerless to help.
“Don't burden yourself too much,” he said. “Loving you is my choice. To reciprocate, or not, is yours. No one knows
what the future holds. Perhaps one day I'll come to my senses and decide to marry and have children.”
Will he, though?
She knew Edmund was not one to compromise, especially when it came to matters of the heart. She did not believe
he would give in so easily as his words suggested.
Ultimately, his reassurances were meant to comfort her and keep her from feeling too stressed out.
From the moment they met, he had been looking out for her, making her the center of his world.
Despite that, fate had cruelly kept them apart. Being together for seven years did not lead to a happy ending.
“Edmund, if I promise you my next life, will you wait for me?”
He hesitated. After three minutes of silence, he said in a hoarse voice, “All right. I'll wait for the next life you
promised me.”
Outside the car, snowflakes danced in the air, falling softly upon a silvery-white world. A melancholy laugh escaped
Bailey's lips as she looked at the scenery outside.
By granting him a belated hope, she was giving him something to look forward to in this life. Even if it meant facing
the future alone, he could find solace in the promise of another chance.
Her heart belonged to Artemis, and there was no room left for anyone else.
The truth was, even without Artemis, no matter how much time passed, she would never fall in love with Edmund.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThey would have been together long before Artemis came along if they were meant to be.
At the study of the Tarragon branch, Artemis stood with his hands behind his back, staring out the floor-to-ceiling
window.
His eyes were colder than the winter outside.
Holden, standing behind him, bowed his head and said, “We just received word that Bailey and Edmund have gone
to the meeting. What should we do?”
Artemis withdrew his gaze from the falling snow and looked at Holden. “I've already sent a message to Dwayne,
telling him to rescue Micah. We'll wait for the results of his mission before taking action. Have you sent people to
capture Sofie?”
Holden replied calmly, “Zeke personally led the team. We should hear the results soon.”
Artemis grabbed his coat from the rack, putting it on as he walked toward the door. “Let's head to the suburbs.
That's where the main battle will take place. As for Micah and Sofie, we'll leave them to Dwayne and Zeke. Our
main objective is to eliminate Yvette first.”
“Got it.”
Half an hour later, Edmund and Bailey arrived at the abandoned factory.
Bailey constantly scanned the surroundings.
As the car came to a halt, she lowered her voice and said, “There must be hundreds of elite assassins lurking near
this factory alone. Yvette indeed wields a formidable power. If we don't eliminate her, she'll be a significant
nuisance in the future. She has set her sights on Artemis and constantly seeks to possess him. If she doesn't die, we
will never have peace.”
Edmund nodded. “Then let us smother her here and rid ourselves of future trouble. You were going to come alone
to this meeting. Have you thought about how to deal with it?”
Bailey smiled, her beautiful eyes gleaming with an icy cold light, and she uttered through gritted teeth, “Capture the
leader, and the rest will topple.”
With that, she opened the car door and got out.
There was no point in hiding in the car now that they had arrived.
They would have to face whatever was coming. They had come this far, and she had to forge ahead even if the
road ahead was fraught with danger.
Edmund followed suit, opening the car door and stepping out.
The two approached the factory entrance, and from a distance, they could see Justin and Veronique concealed
amidst the snowy landscape.
Bailey's eyes fell upon Veronique, her pale, almost translucent face, and a murderous intent surged within Bailey's
body.
This woman is already gravely ill. How can she withstand such torture?
It was clear that Veronique's life was hanging by a thread.
“You're truly a courageous heroine for coming here alone, Ms. Jefferson. Looks like I have underestimated you,”
Yvette began as she slowly emerged from the warehouse. “A woman like you exists only to evoke envy and
admiration in others. Only in death can we breathe a sigh of relief. Today, I shall act in the name of justice,
avenging all the women in the world.”
Clad in black leather clothing and a mink coat, Yvette looked petite and delicate, like a girl next door.
However, to Bailey, she was a true femme fatale.
“I'm here. Shouldn't you honor your promise and release Justin and Veronique?” Bailey demanded.
Yvette sneered, “Now that you're a sitting duck, what right do you have to negotiate terms with me? If you want me
to release them, tie yourself up first.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAs she spoke, the surrounding bodyguards threw a bundle of rope at Bailey's feet.
Bailey arched an eyebrow, smirking. “You've already said I'm a sitting duck. Why, are you afraid of me? Wouldn't it
be better for you to tie me up yourself to satisfy your vanity even more?”
Yvette snorted, a mocking smile playing on her lips. “You're a cunning woman, carrying who knows how many
hidden weapons or poisons. If I approached you, wouldn't I be inviting trouble? I'd rather watch you tie yourself up.
Cut the nonsense. Do as I say, or your dear friends' lives will be in danger.”
Bailey glanced at the rope at her feet, narrowing her eyes. “Let Edmund release Justin and Veronique first, then let
them leave. I'll stay and you can do whatever you want to me.”
A flash of displeasure crossed Yvette's eyes, and she said through gritted teeth, “What gives you the right to
bargain with me? You are the prisoner here, not me.”
Bailey shrugged nonchalantly, a sinister smile on her face. “A prisoner? Not necessarily. As you said so yourself, I'm
full of cunning tricks. I might just turn the tables on you. As long as you haven't restrained my freedom, I have a
chance to make a comeback at any time.”
“You—” Yvette made a move as if to lunge at her.
Bailey raised an eyebrow. “I have plenty of high-tech gadgets hidden on me. If you come any closer, you're
definitely asking for trouble.”
Yvette abruptly stopped in her tracks.
She didn't dare to gamble with her life.
Bailey's skills and capabilities were known worldwide, and Yvette was no exception.
“Fine,” she conceded. “You send your people to save Justin and Veronique. Once I release them, you must
surrender, or I won't hesitate to bring everyone down with me, even at the cost of our own lives.”
Bailey turned her head to look at Edmund. “You take them away first.”
