Chapter 673 Ruthless
Gwendolyn and Yoel kept silent and looked away.
They did not blame anyone, nor did they carry any resentment in their hearts, but the couple still felt
uncomfortable. They felt annoyed, and it was an emotion that needed time to fade away slowly.
Ding!
The door to the emergency room opened, and Justin walked out.
Gwendolyn rushed toward him and asked anxiously, “How is he? How is Edmund doing now? Were you able to save
him?”
Justin glanced at Artemis, seeking his opinion.
The latter nodded in response, indicating that Justin should tell the truth.
Things had already gotten to this point, so there was no use hiding the truth any further.
Besides, the Chiverses were not stupid. Even if he were to lie to them, there was no way he could keep the truth
from them forever.
Justin nodded slightly as he said, “Don't worry. We managed to save him. However, the injury on his right leg is too
serious. There is no way to cure it in the current state of medical science. I came out to ask for your opinion on
whether or not you want to amputate his leg. Taking care of his leg post-surgery would be extremely difficult, so it
would be better to amputate it now.”
Gwendolyn staggered backward.
Even though it was something she had expected, she could not bring herself to accept it now that a conclusion had
been drawn.
Justin's words meant her son would be crippled. He would have to be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life and be
unable to walk around normally.
Yoel reached out and steadied his wife. His gaze landed on Glen.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThe old man narrowed his cloudy eyes. Only a few hours had passed, but he had paled so much that it seemed as
though he was at the end of his life.
The Chivers family had always had few children, and the number of descendants had decreased to one in each of
the recent generations.
The prestigious family was in ruins now that Edmund had gone through something like this. Glen could not bear this
fact even though he had experienced how cruel the world could be.
“Is there really no hope at all?”
Justin shook his head. His voice was low as he said, “His bones were crushed, and his muscles were completely
severed. Besides, he has lost much of his flesh, leaving only his bone behind. It's a broken bone as well. I suggest—”
“I don't agree.”
Bailey rushed over and grabbed his arm. “Let me have a look inside. You can conclude once I've assessed the
situation. I refuse to believe his leg is crippled just like that. I'll do my best to help him stand back up as long as I'm
around. I've been in the medical field for many years and have saved countless people. However, I admit those
people have nothing to do with me. To me, there is only one person worth saving, and that is Edmund. I will devote
all my life to learning and studying for him.”
Justin was hesitant.
Will she be able to stand it?
The others were also worried about the same thing.
“Are you sure you want to go in?” Glen's expression was grim. “His condition might be far worse than you imagined.
With the condition you're in right now, you'll break down if you see him. There is no need for you to force yourself.
As I said, no one will blame you for this. This is his life. He can only bear with it since the tragedy has already
happened.”
Bailey shook her head. “No. I don't believe in fate. I only believe in my medical skills as the miracle doctor,
Anonymous. Keep his leg. Perhaps I'll be able to find a cure for it one day. However, if you amputate it and install
prosthetics for him, it can't be considered a part of his body anymore.”
“But—”
“Let her in.”
Artemis, who had been silent the whole time, finally spoke up. “Anyone else would have tried their best to ask
Anonymous for help, too, if they were in the same situation. We should take advantage of the situation since she's
here now. Keep his leg. At least we'll still have some hope that way. The same can't be said if we amputate it.”
The others kept silent at that.
Bailey didn't even spare him a glance as she pushed Justin away and rushed into the emergency room.
“Go check up on Holden's woman. She's not in the best situation. Just leave this to Bailey. After all, no one else
wants Edmund to return to normal more than she does. I believe she'll do her best,” Artemis said to Justin.
“All right. I'll go check up on things in the other operating room.”
On the other side, more than half an hour had passed since Wendy was pushed into the operating room.
Holden, Micah, and the others were waiting in the corridor.
“It's going to be fine. She still has attachments to this world. Her child is one of them, and she still cares about
whether you love her. Her wishes have not been fulfilled yet. There's no way she'll die just like that,” Micah kept
consoling, not caring if Holden was actually listening to him.
Shannon strode over and whispered, “Go check on Sebastian, Holden. The boy experienced quite a shock and
hasn't calmed down yet. The mother and son depended on each other for many years, and now Wendy is on the
verge of death. We can't imagine just how terrifying and worrying it is to Sebastian. You're his father, and you're the
only one who can console him right now.”
Holden's gaze landed on his son. The boy was curled up and trembling in his grandmother's arms.
Holden had been so focused on Wendy that he had completely forgotten about how his son would feel.

After Holden left, Micah looked up at Shannon. He stayed silent for a moment before pulling her toward the balcony
some distance away.
They bumped into Justin just as they turned the corner.
Shannon quickly shook off Micah's hand and said to Justin, “Why are you here, Mr. Xuereb? Weren't you in the
emergency room?”
“Bailey is there, and I came to see how Ms. Hoffman is doing. You guys have a chat first. I'll head into the operating
room now.”
Micah took Shannon's hand once again and pulled her toward the balcony. She wanted to shove his hand aside, but
he kept a death grip on her wrist.
The woman used all her might to pry her hand away from his. Then, raising her hand, she slapped him across his
face.
“Let me go.”
Micah ignored her and said, “Return to Tarragon's headquarters with me some time later. So many years have
passed. There are still some things that we have to put an end to.”
Shannon couldn't help but sneer. “What? Are you trying to bring me back to cut my other arm? Or will you lock me
up and impregnate me again, trampling over the child and leading it to its death? How unfortunate that your plan is
doomed to fail. I don't have my uterus anymore, so there's no way I can get pregnant now.”
This was what one would call ruthless.
Micah's face paled instantly. A bone-chilling pain spread slowly from his heart to his organs and his limbs.
The woman knew him too well. She knew just what to say to knock him down.
The words “arm,” “child,” and “uterus” pierced through his heart, thoroughly crushing him.
Unless it was absolutely necessary, he had always thought he had never hurt her again after the people from
Tarragon cut off her arm.
However, he could not deny that she had lost her child and uterus because of him.
“What do I have to do for you to forgive me, Shannon?”
