Chapter 138

The tremendous force caused Paisley's body to lift off the ground, crash heavily against the windshield, and then

roll down.

She was hit so hard that her mind went blank, with a constant buzzing sound, and her consciousness began to

fade. Only when Serena's heart-wrenching cry reached her did her dazed mind gradually return. "Mom! Mom!

Don't die! I'm scared! Mom!"

"I'm not dead-" Paisley breathed heavily, weakly responding to Serena. She struggled to hold herself up, raising

her head to look at Serena in the back seat.

Seeing that Serena was unharmed, Paisley finally breathed a sigh of relief. Enduring the pain in her body, she

struggled to crawl to the back, unbuckled Serena's seatbelt, and carefully checked her from head to toe. "Are

you okay? Tellif you're hurting anywhere."

Serena's face was drenched in tears, clearly frightened. She shook her head. "It doesn't hurt. I'm fine." The post-

traumatic fear overwhelmed Paisley, and she tightly hugged Serena to her chest. Despite her strength

throughout the ordeal, she finally choked up. "It's okay, it's okay, Rena. Don't be scared. We're okay."

Knock-knock-someone was knocking on the car window. The car accident had drawn the attention of nearby

onlookers, and shad already called the police for help.

"Hey! Are you okay? Do you need an ambulance?" The person knocking was a truck driver, who had also been

startled by the incident. Although he wasn't fully at fault, being involved in a fatality was bad luck. Fortunately,

the car had swerved at the last moment and crashed into a tree, or the consequences would have been dire.

The truck driver glanced at the driver's seat of the taxi and saw Jeremy slumped with his eyes rolled back, which

scared him even more. "Hey! What's going on here? Is this guy alive or dead?"

Paisley slowly rolled down the window and spoke to the truck driver, "Please, call the police."

The truck driver nodded. "I've already called. They'll be here soon. Is he dead?"

Paisley glanced at Jeremy. "He's not dead, just unconscious."

The needle she had used wouldn't kill him in a short time. Before the police arrived, she needed to pull out the

silver needle.

It wasn't until this moment that she slumped weakly in the seat, the tight knot in her heart finally

unwinding. But she didn't relax for long. After a few seconds of rest, she went back to the front passenger seat.

First, she took Jeremy's phone and used his fingerprint to unlock it. As she had expected, there was no evidence

in the phone that Marissa had incited Jeremy to commit murder.

If they couldn't find evidence of Marissa's involvement in Jeremy's actions, it was very likely that only Jeremy

would face legal consequences. Marissa would continue to roam free, plotting her next attempt to murder her

and Serena.

Paisley gritted her teeth, her mind working rapidly-she had to find evidence before the police arrived. Suddenly,

her gaze fell on the car's dashcam. It was an old model, and the footage couldn't be transferred directly to a

phone.

Paisley had no choice but to remove the memory card, insert it into her portable computer, and copy the

content, transferring it to her phone.

Sitting in the car, she went through the recent footage, one by one. Fortunately, Jeremy was usually lazy, so the

footage wasn't extensive. She quickly found evidence of his and Marissa's conversations. The video ignited all of

Paisley's fury!

Lucy and Maria arrived at nearly the stas the police, and someone had already called for an ambulance.

Before the police arrived, Paisley had already removed the silver needle from Jeremy's neck. However, even after

paramedics dragged him to the ambulance, he didn't regain consciousness. It was likely the result of the violent

impact earlier.

"Oh my baby!" Maria rushed over and took Serena from Paisley's arms, hugging her tightly. It seemed like she

had been crying all the way here, her eyes red and her face streaked with tears.

"Maria, don't worry; we're fine now," Paisley reassured Maria.

Maria knew that Paisley had medical knowledge, but still, she couldn't help but feel heartbroken. "Physically,

she's fine, but what about mentally? The poor child must be terrified! Who could be so evil, not even sparing a

child?"

Paisley's face fell, her eyes filled with murderous intent. "Yes, they're evil."

She handed the memory card she'd taken from the dashcam to Lucy. "Give this to the police. It's evidence

of the criminal's actions." After that, she got into the car that Lucy had driven over.

"Hey! Where are you going? We still need to cooperate with the police investigation!" Lucy shouted anxiously

from outside the car.

"Lucy, Maria, keep an eye on Serena," Paisley said before closing the door, stepping on the accelerator, and

speeding off.

Inside the car, she dialed Dominick's number.

"Hey, what's up?" Dominick quickly answered the phone. Clearly, there were a lot of people around, chatting.

Paisley sneered, "Where are you?"

"At my parents' house."

"How about Marissa?"

Dominick clearly didn't understand why Paisley was asking, but still replied, "She's here too."

"Alright, wait for me," Paisley said, hanging up the phone. She floored the gas pedal, heading straight for the

Vanderbilt family mansion.

At that moment, Vanderbilt Manor was bustling like a holiday. It was the day Paul was brought hfrom the

hospital to recover, so nearly the entire Vanderbilt family had gathered.

Just a short while ago, they were all worried about Paul's life, almost preparing for his funeral. Now, not only was

Paul still alive, but he was also coming hto recuperate. It felt almost like a celebration. When Dominick

received the call from Paisley, he was outside talking to Julian. Since Julian was reassigned away from his side,

this was their first tmeeting again.

Julian was here for two reasons: to report on work and to congratulate Paul on coming home.

"Dom, who are you talking to?" Marissa asked with a smile as she looked at Dominick's phone, which had just

turned off.

"Paisley," Dominick replied directly.

"Ah?" Hearing that name, Marissa felt a shiver.

'Why is Paisley still alive? What is Jeremy doing?’ she thought.

"Is there something going on? Is she coming over too?" Marissa asked cautiously, since Paul was saved

by Paisley, and it wouldn't be unusual if Paul wanted to invite her.

Dominick shook his head. "No, nothing's going on. She's not coming."

Dominick himself wasn't sure what Paisley's call had meant. She told him to wait, but wait for what?

"It's good that she's not coming,’ Marissa thought to herself.

"Dom, Julian, don't just stand there. Cin and eat, everyone's waiting," she called to Dominick and Julian.

"You go ahead. We'll be in soon," Dominick said.

Marissa nodded obediently and didn't urge them further. She acted like the considerate hostess, turning back to

join Lauren and entertain the guests.
