Chapter 146

Paisley turned her head, her gaze cold as she looked at Dominick.

"No!" Dominick hurried to explain, "I'm not siding with her, | just don't want you to get blood on your hands. It's

not worth it!"

Paisley expressionlessly pulled the shard of glass from Dominick's palm, tossing it on the floor without caring

whether it was stained with his blood.

She scoffed, "Mr. Vanderbilt really has no common sense. This tiny piece of glass can't even pierce your palm, let

alone reach her heart."

Paisley had no intention of taking Marissa's life. The only reason she did this was to vent her anger. She wanted

Marissa to experience the hopelessness of being on the verge of death. It was just unfortunate that all of this

was ruined by Dominick.

Dominick froze, looking down at the glass shard. Indeed, as Paisley had said, neither its hardness nor its length

would have been enough to pierce a human heart. It might even struggle to pierce a rib.

At that moment, he felt an overwhelming sense of powerlessness.

"Paisy, | just "

Paisley frowned, "Don't callthat."

"How is Rena? She's alright, right?" he asked.

"My daughter is none of Mr. Vanderbilt's concern," Paisley said coldly, distancing herself from Dominick clearly.

Dominick's gaze darkened. He pushed away the doctor who was trying to bandage his hand. "Paisley, | know the

truth about everything now. I've wronged you over these years. |—"

"Enough," Paisley interrupted him directly. "Mr. Vanderbilt, you don't need to say anymore. This time, no matter

what, I will make Marissa pay the price. Nothing you say will change my mind."

Marissa's actions had crossed a line for Paisley, and she would not let it slide.

Dominick said, "I'm not trying to defend her, I'm just—"

"I don't want to hear it," Paisley coldly interrupted Dominick again. It was pointless to say more at this point.

"Paisley, what can you do to me?" Marissa leaned against the wall, dizziness from the pain in her head making

her unsteady. "I'm the one you threw the vase at. If anything happens to me, you can wait for a lifetin

prison!"

"Heh!" Paisley sneered, "Let's see if I'll end up in prison."

The spot where she had thrown the vase at Marissa was carefully chosen-it wouldn't be fatal and wouldn't cause

major injury. It would just hurt a lot and cause a lot of bleeding. To put it simply, it would look scary.

Just as Paisley finished her sentence, the police arrived at the Vanderbilt family estate. Marissa's eyes lit up as

she pointed at Paisley. "Arrest her! She's trying to kill me! Hurry! Arrest her!"

"Officers, may | ask what brings you to my house?" Reginald stepped forward to ask as the head of the

Vanderbilt family.

Dominick instinctively stepped in front of Paisley, his left hand still bleeding heavily, but he seemed not to feel

any pain.

"We're here to find Ms. Marissa Prescott. Where is she?"

They were here to find Marissa? The situation had unfolded so suddenly. They hadn't even called the police, so

how had they arrived so quickly?

Upon hearing that the police were here for her, Marissa panicked. She pointed at Paisley. "You've got it wrong!

She's the one who tried to kill me! Arrest her! Arrest Paisley!"

The police didn't pay any attention to Marissa's protests and walked straight toward her, taking out the

handcuffs.

"We received a report and now suspect that Ms. Marissa is involved in a failed murder attempt. We need to take

her in for questioning."

They said "questioning," but with all the evidence, it was basically a sure thing that she would be locked up. At

this point, it was clear-Paisley had made the report, and the evidence the Vanderbilt family had seen earlier had

all been sent by Paisley.

"Paisley, was it you?" Marissa glared at Paisley with bloodshot eyes. "It was you!" She struggled against the

officers, trying to stop them from handcuffing her, but it was all in vain.

"Where's my cousin! Jeremy! Where is he?" Marissa screamed in agitation. "The video showed Paisley getting

into Jeremy's car, and there was a car accident. There's no reason she's alive and Jeremy's nowhere to be

found!"

"Don't worry, he'll be joining you in there soon," Paisley said, raising an eyebrow with a smile. "Oh, wait, you two

are in different prisons, so you won't be seeing each other."

Marissa finally panicked. She used all her strength to pull her body away, trying to stop the police from taking

her.

"Dom! Dom! Help me! Please, help me! Don't letgo to prison! | did all this because of you! Because | love

you! Please, let Paisley go! I'm sorry, | know | was wrong, | just love you too much!" She refused to accept her

fate.

In the past, whenever she begged, Dominick would tolerate her, agreeing to everything she asked. But this time,

when she looked at Dominick with tear-filled eyes, he just stood there, unmoved.

"Mr. Vanderbilt, Mrs. Vanderbilt! Kayla! Please help me, | can't go to jail, | can't!" Marissa turned to the Vanderbilt

family for help, the speople who once treated her like family. But now, the disappointed expressions on their

faces felt unfamiliar to her.

"Sonny! Don't you lovethe most? Letbe your mom, please! Quickly, ask your dad to help me!" Marissa

locked her gaze on Grayson, almost out of strength to keep resisting the police.

Grayson shook his head, crying, "You're not my mom. You want to kill me. You're a bad person." "Ungrateful!

Grayson, you're an ungrateful little monster!" Marissa screamed in frustration, twisting and struggling, finally

glaring at Dominick.

"Dominick! You promised my dad you would take care of me! Is this how you take care of me? My dad died trying

to pick you up!

"If it weren't for you, he wouldn't have died! You owe my dad a life, and you have to payback!" Reginald

shook his head and revealed a truth that had been buried for years.

"Marissa, your father did have an accident on his way to pick up Dom, but it was because he was driving drunk.

You should be thankful he hadn't picked up Dom yet, or Dom might have died in that accident too. "The reason

we didn't reveal the truth was because we felt sorry for you both, a mother and daughter left alone, and because

your mother always took care of Dom.

"So, the Vanderbilt family doesn't owe the Prescott family anything. On the contrary, over the years, the

Vanderbilt family has taken care of your mother and even helped out the rest of the Prescott family, which has

been more than enough."
