Chapter 149

An elderly woman stepped out, eyeing them warily.

"We're here to see the family living here," Dominick said politely, nodding slightly.

The elderly woman frowned, "Who are you, and why are you looking for Paisley and her daughter?" Realizing she

knew Paisley's name, Dominick softened his tone even further. "I'm her husband, and this is our son."

The woman's eyes narrowed sharply. "Husband? Don't givethat nonsense! Paisley doesn't have a husband!

Don't try to fool me!"

Dominick felt a pang in his chest but explained calmly, "I'm her ex-husband. This child is indeed ours. I'm not

lying. Do you know where Paisley is?"

'Could she still not have returned?’ he wondered.

Last night, he had tried every possible way to contact Paisley but failed. When he went to the police station, she

had already left.

He assumed she was still upset, so he decided to give her the night to cool down before coming to see her today.

But as expected, he was met with a closed door once again.

After knocking for a long time, Dominick couldn't get Paisley to cout, but he did manage to get the old

neighbor lady to answer the door.

He didn't want to admit he was Paisley's ex-husband, and he resented Paisley in his heart for telling the

neighbors everything, even their personal matters like their marriage and divorce.

Upon hearing Dominick's explanation, the old lady felt disgusted. "Oh! You're the one Maria talked about, the

scumbag ex-husband of Paisy?"

Dominick was shocked. "I'm not a scumbag, I—"

"Still denying it?" The old lady interrupted him harshly.

"One is a worthless ex-husband who can't get rid of his childhood sweetheart, and the other is a thankless son

who prefers others over his own mother! And you still say you're not a scumbag? You two are both scum!"

Dominick's face darkened. He didn't have the tor patience to listen to a woman scold him. After all, he was

the CEO of a large company, and his expression was still quite intimidating.

The old lady shrank back but knew he wouldn't do anything to her. She puffed out her chest and said, "You and

your son can stop waiting, Paisy moved out. She left yesterday!"

"She moved out?" Dominick's heart skipped a beat. "Where did she move to?"

"How would | know?" The old lady stared at him. "She just doesn't want to see you guys, so she moved

out. You should have sself-awareness. Stop knocking, it's so annoying!"

After saying that, the old lady slammed the door shut. She was really annoyed with Dominick and his son.

If it wasn't for them, Maria wouldn't have moved out with Paisy, and she would have had someone to go grocery

shopping with this morning.

Grayson was startled by the loud door slam. He tugged at Dominick's hand, "Dad, will we never see Mom again?"

He started crying. He couldn't accept being abandoned by Paisley again.

Dominick pressed his thin lips together and stared at the tightly shut door, silent. Only his reddened eyes

betrayed his sadness.

He picked up Grayson, looking like a male wolf abandoned by its mother, his eyes full of endless sorrow. "We will.

Dad will take you to find Mom."

Not having seen Paisley, Dominick could only take Grayson back to Vanderbilt Manor first and then go to work.

As father and son walked into the Vanderbilt Manor, they heard two voices crying.

"What's going on?" Dominick asked the butler.

The butler saw that Dominick's eyes were red, as if he had been crying recently, and was momentarily stunned

before quickly replying, "It's Ms. Prescott's mother. She brought Stella with her."

Dominick entered the hall, holding Grayson's hand. They saw Marissa's mother, Linda, dragging her frail body,

holding the crying Stella, kneeling before Lauren, begging desperately.

"Linda, there's nothing you can ask from us. We aren't the ultimate victims, we can't help you," Lauren said,

sitting on the sofa, clearly annoyed by the elderly woman and child kneeling in front of her.

"Madam, you're the head of the Vanderbilt family, aren't you? Isn't it just a matter of you saying one word?

Please, help us, save Marissa and Jeremy. | can't live without my daughter, and this child can't grow up without a

father."

Linda pleaded tearfully, kowtowing, her forehead bruising with each bow.

Lauren slammed her hand on the sofa. "What do you mean it's just a matter of one word? I'm not that powerful.

Your daughter and nephew are guilty of attempted murder, a serious criminal offense. And they were trying to

kill Paisy, Sonny's mother!"

Linda was stunned. She didn't know exactly what happened, only that Marissa and Jeremy had been arrested for

attempted murder.

"Madam, please help us. Look at how | took care of Dom all those years. Please help us just this once," Linda

begged again.

Lauren's eyes grew cold. "If it wasn't for the fact that you took care of my son back then, the Vanderbilt family

would never have let Marissa and her cousin off this easily!"

"Madam-" Linda didn't give up.

"You don't know, do you? Marissa is bold enough to try to kill Paisy, and she even wanted to kill my Sonny!

Thankfully, she didn't succeed this time, or Sonny would have been the next one to die!"

Lauren's anger grew the more she spoke, and she becmore frightened. "So don't bother begging me

anymore. I've already shown mercy by not going after your family. You wantto save them now? Dream on!"

For a moment, Linda lost all her strength. She hadn't expected things to turn out this way, and she couldn't say

another word in her defense.

"Leave." Lauren waved her hand, but when she stood up, she saw Dominick and Grayson. "Why are you back?

Didn't you see Paisy?"

Linda's eyes lit up. She crawled to Dominick's feet, clutching his pant leg, and started pleading, "Dom, | know

Marissa made a big mistake. But please, for the sake of our years together, for all the years I've taken care of

you, please forgive her.

"Also, please ask Ms. Sutton to forgive her! If you both agree to write a letter of forgiveness, Marissa will serve

fewer years in prison. Please, | beg you!"

Dominick lowered his head and stared at Linda's now much thicker white hair. He sighed deeply and helped her

up.

Linda thought things were turning around and looked at him gratefully. "Dom, | knew it. You're a good boy. You

wouldn't just watch Marissa suffer in there."

Just like every other time, whenever they asked, Dominick would agree and do as they asked.

"Mrs. Prescott," Dominick's voice was flat, devoid of the warmth he once showed her. "I won't help you this time."
