She was babbling away.
“Must have something to do with Uncle Skyler,” William suggested, “Otherwise she wouldn't keep staring at him.” Aurelia and Leopold exchanged a glance. Something was definitely off.
“We should have cameras downstairs,” Leopold said with gravity. “I'll have someone check with security. We'll get the footage and see what's up.” “Cameras can capture ghosts,” Nina chimed in, her voice tinged with the thrill of a horror movie fan. “That's what they show in the movies.” “Ghosts? Are we onto ghosts again?” The excited voice belonged to Beverley who had just finished her skincare routine and had cover to play with the kids. Her ears had perked up at the mention of specters.
“Aunt Beverley, Nova’s seeing ghosts again,” Mira relayed the day's spooky events at a painfully slow pace.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtBeverley clicked her tongue in amazement. “Wow, our little Nova’s got a special gift, huh? Could she be one of those with the legendary sixth sense?” “But you said babies can see ghosts without any sixth sense,” Nina pointed out.
“Well, if she’s got the sixth sense, she'll be seeing ghosts even when she grows up,” Beverley explained.
Skyler piped up, “I've got it! Babies can see ghosts easily because their brainwaves are weaker, making them more likely to bump into a ghost's frequency.” “That could be,” Beverley nodded, pondering the idea. “But what exactly did Nova see?” “It's a ghost related to Uncle Skyler,” Nina said. “Can ghosts talk to babies?” “Mhm,” Beverley nodded. “Ghosts can communicate with any living thing, plants and animals included.” “The ghost must have told Nova something, wanting her to pass a message to Uncle Skyler,” Mira’s imagination was running wild.
Skyler’s gears were turning too. He said, “Could it be my old pets? They were all brutally killed by smaniac who's still out there, free as a bird, never caught by the cops. Maybe they want to tellwho it was, so | can avenge them?” “That's a possibility,” Beverley agreed.
William pulled a face. “Uncle Skyler, weren't all your pets back at Eastwood Heights? Could their spirits have crossed the ocean to Elysium?” Beverley stroked her chin. “It's a stretch, but | suppose it's possible. | heard there are managers in the spirit world, like soul ferrymen and such. Maybe they've got ssort of supernatural transport that allows international travel.” Aurelia pressed her fingers to her temples, her mind a whirlwind as she listened to the back and forth of the ghostly discussion.
She was a non-believer in spectral tales.
The security guard Leopold had sent to check the footage returned.
“Mr. Leopold, the downstairs cameras are out,” he reported. “The security team was planning to install new ones this afternoon.” “What a coincidence! The cameras always fail at the most critical moments,” Aurelia murmured skeptically, a frown creasing her brow.
“It's common for cameras to malfunction in the presence of spirits,” Beverley stated seriously. “Ghosts are a form of energy and disturb magnetic fields, creating anomalies that can mess with electronics.” Mira shrank into herself, nearly ready to wrap her head in a blanket.
“Nina, I'm sleeping with you tonight,” she declared.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Alright, scaredy-cat, I'll protect you,” Nina stuck out her tongue playfully, though she felt a shiver of her fear.
Leopold ordered his bodyguards to step up security, wary of any tricksters who might be lurking.
Meanwhile, Lisa was taking a solitary stroll around the grounds of the Snowy Summit Retreat.
The sun dipped low, casting the world in dusky shadows.
As she reached the flowerbeds, a voice called from behind, “Lisa, why are you all alone? Don’t you want to hang with everyone else?” She turned to see Skyler, his pockets always a treasure trove of goodies.
“| just needed sair,” she replied, “I'll head back soon.” Skyler fished out a lollipop from his pocket. “Here, have a lollipop. It's chocolate-flavored.” “Thank you,” Lisa said, her smile genuine as she accepted the sweet treat.
