Luckily, they hadn't caught on to Agent A's trick, or else he would be pushing up daisies by now.
The Stirling family was undoubtedly a cold-blooded bunch. No ounce of brotherly love could stop them from turning on their blood.
Aurelia cracked a sly grin. “How's Raines holding up today?”
Agent A couldn't help but roll his eyes. Her care was as fake as a crocodile’s tears. Trouble was brewing, no doubt about it.
“You see the shape I'm in. Do | look okay to you?”
“Don’t fret, Raines,” Aurelia soothed, “We're not going to just stand by. We've got the best minds at the Institute of BioResearch
working overton an antidote. One way or another, we'll find a way to pull you through.”
Agent A would eat his hat if that were true.
As cunning as a snake, Aurelia was essentially a living Siren.

“So, you're going to save me?”
“Absolutely,” Aurelia replied. “The Stirling family creed is to protect our own. Anyone who so much as thinks about crossing us will
have hell to pay.”
Agent A chuckled cynically. If the king wanted a duke dead, who was going to challenge the king?
“What if the culprit is one of our own?”
“Then we follow the family code. Exile for the minor offenders or a one-way ticket to the gallows for the worst. We keep our house
clean.”
“If it's Fredric looking to settle a score with me?” Agent A didn’t mention Leopold by name, but if he could drag Fredric into the
light, Leopold wouldn't be far behind.
Aurelia spoke with infuriating calm. “We've caught the chef who laced the hot chocolates. He turns out to be one of the AK Group,
hiding out in Elysium. We've handed him over to Interpol, and he'll be extradited to Country Verdecalma to face the music.”
Agent A clenched his jaw. He knew the poison wasn’t the work of AK Group. This was a scapegoat play, a massive anvil dropped
right on his head, leaving him dizzy and disoriented.
Nice try pinning the blelsewhere.
“Your word against mine,” he shot back.
“You know, Raines, it’s not like you to be this way. When you were suspected of poisoning, we believed your story. Now you're
doubting your brother and playing right into the hands of anyone wanting to see us turn on each other.”
Her words lodged in Agent A's throat like a bone, neither to be swallowed nor spat out, choking him with frustration.
Agent A was seething with rage. He had been too complacent this tand was tricked by a bunch of greenhorns.
“I'd hate to see our siblings turn against each other. Dad's gone, and the four of us should be looking out for each other, not at
each other's throats.”

“Well, if you believe that, I'll rest easier,” Aurelia said. “I'm off to check on the antidote’s progress at the BioResearch lab.”
Not long after Aurelia left, Lisbeth cin.
“I've been to school to see Skyler and grilled him good. He didn’t seem to have a hand in this. You sure you're not barking up the
wrong tree?” asked Lisbeth.
A cold gleam flickered in Agent A's eyes. There was no such poison in AK Group, or he would have had the antidote by now.
“There's still a chance the poison wasn’t concocted by Skyler. Maybe he just played a part in the scheme, drawing fire away from
Geoffrey who's now holding the bag.”
After all, Skyler wasn’t the only one in the world who could concoct poison.
Lisbeth nodded. “That's possible. But Aurelia toldLeopold personally requested the BioResearch lab to develop an antidote for
you. They're not just stringing you along?”
Agent A snorted. “Poisonand then offer a cure? Are they that charitable?”
“If they are behind it, it's probably just to slap your wrist. As long as your cover isn’t blown, | doubt they'd want you dead.”
