Chapter 706 William pulled a face at her, "Megan, you're such a sad case, getting the cold shoulder from Uncle Leo like that." "The forgotten ones in the palace, so pitiful indeed, all alone and utterly miserable, Skyler chimed in with a tic flair, their act in perfect harmony.
Sierra blinked, joining the conversation in a whisper, "I've seen those soap operas, and the emperors always lock away the wives they don't like" "Zip it' Megan growled, "I'm the queen, not just some wife, and queens don't get locked away." William burst out laughing, "Megan's lost it, thinking she's the queen” Skyler couldn't help but join in the laughter, doubling over in an exaggerated display of amusement.
Even Sierra started giggling, though she couldn't quite see the joke. Laughter, after all, was contagious.
Megan was a mix of embarrassment and anger, "You lot are complete morons, idiots." “You're the idiot, and your whole family’s full of idiots.” William retorted, hands on his hips and puffing up like a rooster.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtSkyler mimicked his stance, repeating his words, "You're the idiot, not us" Sierra joined in, echoing Skyler. Her job was to make Skyler happy.
Megan was close to passing out from rage.
Aurelia patted her son's head, "Alright, William, Skyler, Sierra, let's go. No use wasting words on someone who doesn't matter" “Okay.” The three nodded obediently, trailing behind Aurelia as they left.
Sierra had already figured out that Megan wasn't exactly Miss Popular around here. She asked William in a soft voice, “Why does everyone dislike Megan?" "Because she's the wicked stepmother’ William replied, scrunching his nose.
"“Okay.” She sort of got it. Leopold's ex, Aurelia, was replaced by Megan, the new wife.
It was a damn shame Leopold would do dirty by a fine woman like Aurelia.
That was just low.
And Aurelia, being the saint she was, even thought about giving the jerk another chance. It had to be because Leopold was ridiculously handsome.
That was probably why Aurelia couldn't let go.
Skyler shrugged at her, "Sierra, adults are so complex, aren't they? Falling in love, getting married, cheating, divorcing... they do the most astonishingly foolish things. We're just kids, keeping things simple, and our world is so pure.” Sierra lowered her gaze, her long lashes casting shadows over her pale cheeks.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"Skyler, kids like you can afford to be innocent because you were born into wealth and have loving parents. Orphans or kids with divorced parents can't live simply. They have to grow up fast to survive." Skyler looked at her thoughtfully, his eyes wide with newfound understanding.
“Sierra, now that you're friends with me and Willian, no one will dare pick on you. You can be a kid again” She sighed, “But I'll have to leave with Tanya when she goes back home. | won't be able to play with you anymore." Skyler stroked his chin, "Maybe | can talk to Tanya, and see if you can stay" “Really?” Sierra's eyes sparkled. Tanya had brought her here hoping she could stay and look after Skyler.
"Yeah, Skyler nodded.
"Thank you, Skyler” Sierra grinned widely. She hadn't expected to complete her task so quickly. Tanya would be pleased.
Aurelia watched her with a profound gaze, her eyes deep and contemplative.
Sierra staying with Skyler meant she'd always be a spy for Tanya. Yet, Sierra seemed so pitiful. If she couldn't stay, Tanya would certainly fire her without a second thought, and then her tivelihood would be at stake.
Aurelia knew she had to think of a solution that would benefit everyone involved.
