Aurelia poured herself a champagne and sighed, "This is the joy of being an ordinary person. Since | married you, I've almost forgotten what it feels like to be an ordinary person."
Leopold swirled the bubbly liquid in his glass and replied, "Even ordinary folks can be restless." She agreed with him. The greed of humans knew no bounds, and very few understood the value of contentment.
Those without money dreamt of making a fortune. Once they got rich, they'd abandon old flames for younger and prettier partners.
Life was but a brief few decades filled with power struggles, violence, and betrayals.
Upper-class couples shared the good times but rarely the bad, while those at the bottom could endure hardships together but seldom enjoyed prosperity side by side.
"still, it's better with money. If | were still an ordinary person, I'd be slaving away to pay off debts by now."
She looked at him with a playful smile, saying, "So, if | were to choose again, I'd still marry you."
Leopold extended his arm like a knight in shining armor and pulled her close. "Only for the money, not for me?"
Aurelia let out a teasing sigh. "Oh, money is good. It doesn't betray me. It's always mine, and if someone steals it, the cops can bring it back. If you get stolen by another woman, all | can do is suck it up and lick my wounds."
Leopold touched his forehead in mock despair. "Don't worry. Anyone that tries to steal me away from you, I'll make them regret it."
Aurelia shot him a sly glance. "Please, men's promises are empty words." His expression suddenly turned serious, and he looked at her intently. "I would never lie to you." She didn't dare believe him completely.
Once bitten, twice shy. She had her scars and wasn't keen on being abandoned again.
She touched her slightly chilled cheek and deftly changed the subject. "It's nice to have this moment of being ordinary people and enjoying the peace without disturbance."
Leopold gave her a charming smile. "Let's spend this afternoon enjoying leisure time right here." Aurelia settled into the lounge chair, relishing the sea breeze.
"| bet some people are frantically trying to dig up dirt on you. I told Megan and Tanya you're fine, and I'm sure Geoffrey will hear about it soon enough."
Leopold's slender finger pressed gently against her lips. "Honey, let's enjoy our lovely afternoon and not talk about those unpleasant people." Aurelia returned his smile. "Alright, for now, we're just two ordinary people." They clinked their glasses together gently.
Not far off, some tourists were discussing Mr. Leopold's affairs.
"Did you hear that Megan and Aurelia are pointing fingers at each other, each saying the other has poisoned Mr.Leopold?"
"Aurelia's about to marry Arnold and become Leopold's sister-in-law, so poisoning Mr. Leopold does her no good.

It must not be her. | think it's Megan because Mr. Leopold is divorcing her. She must have acted out of hate and poisoned him."
"Yeah, | second that. Poisoning Mr. Leopold and framing Aurelia, it's like hitting two targets with one shot. That woman is ruthless."
Leopold frowned slightly, the harsh words reaching his ears. What was it about Aurelia marrying Arnold and becoming his sister-in-law? Arnold was a thorn in his side, causing a dull ache at the mere thought.
"How come | don't know about you planning to marry Arnold and become my sister-in-law?"
Aurelia took a tiny sip of champagne, sneering, "What? Have you got a problem with that? You're just my ex- husband. You don't have a say."
Leopold's face fell into a mock grimace. "Don't challenge my limits."
She pouted. "You've crossed the line time and time again. I'd like to do the same to you, too." Leopold held her chin gently. "If you crossed the line, the consequences would be too severe, and you can't handle them." She turned away, knowing too well that Leopold was super possessive. If someone else wanted something he had, it was a treasure. If no one was interested, it was nothing to him.
Without Arnold, he probably wouldn't have given her a second glance, considering how much he used to disdain her.
