As the second-largest shareholder of Serenity Films, Avery certainly had an eye for spotting talent with potential.
Marianne flashed a mischievous grin and teased with a playful tone, "Avery, fancy signing me up?" Avery's thick brows lifted slightly, and he smiled, "If you're interested, come talk to me." Marianne crossed her arms and propped her chin on her hands, "Right now, I'm just looking to be your makeup artist. If Kiri decides to come back from maternity leave and you don't need me anymore, then | might consider a career change." Avery chuckled, "Deal." Leah stood to the side, silently nibbling on her nails.
Every time she did that, Avery would stop her, but now he seemed not to notice at all, his attention entirely on Marianne.
She could only be silent.

After dropping Marianne off at her apartment, Avery drove Leah home, completely oblivious to her mood.
Feeling blue, Leah got home and shot a WhatsApp message to Aurelia.
[Hey Aurelia, remember Beverley's classmate, Marianne? She's joined Serenity Films as Avery's makeup artist.] Aurelia was busy tucking Kane into bed and telling him a bedtime story. Once he was asleep, she covered him with a blanket, stepped out, and replied to Leah's message.
[Is she there for Avery?] [I don't know. Avery seems to like her, even thinking about signing her as a singer.] Aurelia chuckled to herself, guessing her thoughts.
[Avery's just looking out for Serenity Films as a major shareholder. He's naturally hoping to sign a few promising new faces.] Leah couldn't settle down, her mind all over the place.
[Aurelia, she was Beverley's classmate. Can you dig up some background info on her for me? | don't want someone with ulterior motives hanging around Avery.] [Sure, I'll snoop around tomorrow. Don't worry, you've got my support.] Aurelia understood Leah's concerns. If it were her, she'd feel the same unease.
Life was a competition from the day they were born.
They competed with siblings as kids, with peers at school, with colleagues as adults, and even in love and marriage.

Survival of the fittest.
Even the most sincere love could fall prey to a rival.
The next day, after work, Aurelia invited Beverley to the Stirling Mansion for dinner.
"Aurelia, why hasn't Leopold been discharged yet?" Aurelia explained casually, "His immune system took a hit, and needs to stay in a sterile room for a while until it's back up to speed." Beverley was taken aback, "No wonder he can't preside over the ceremony." Pouring a cup of fruit tea for Beverley, Aurelia brought up Marianne, "That classmate of yours we met at the Muse Club, Marianne, she's quite a cutie. She's from Starfall City, right?" "Yeah, her dad's a self-made man, chairman of the Cosmic Nexus Group. Her mom used to be a makeup artist and now owns a chain of beauty salons. They're divorced though. Her dad's quite the ladies’ man." Aurelia rolled her eyes. It wasn't that women were unwilling to endure hardship with men, but rather that men often stray once they've got money.
"Do you know Marianne's working at Serenity Films now, as Avery's makeup artist?" Beverley was visibly shocked, "What? Why didn't she tell me?" "Maybe it's her first day, and she hasn't had the chance to tell you yet." Stirring her fruit tea, Aurelia teased, "She is such a fan of Avery's. Working as his makeup artist, she isn't chasing the star, is she?" Beverley made a face, "Although she really likes Avery, | don't think she'd go that crazy." Taking a sip of her tea, Aurelia asked in a low voice, "Does she have a boyfriend?"
