“Where's my child? | need to see her,” Megan demanded, her voice laced with the need for a visual confirmation to believe Jewel's words.
Jewel exhaled deeply, “The kid's gone. Faye, who was looking after her, vanished with her. Allen’s turning every stone to find them.” A sharp pang twisted through Megan's heart, “What in the world is happening? Don't tellFaye has kidnapped my baby for ransom?” Jewel gave a noncommittal shrug, “Can't rule that out. The Boss has sent additional guys to look for your kid. We gotta find her or the paternity test is gonna be a bust.” With that, she took the child from Hazel’s arms and placed him into Megan's, “Though he’s not your blood, he’s gonna be your rock from now on. Daughters ain’t worth squatting in the Stirling family, and they're nothing. But a son, now that’s the golden ticket. You gotta take good care of him.” Megan felt on the brink of collapse. Her insides were contorting in agony. She wanted her own child to be the Stirling family heir, not someone else's.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtShe wasn’t about to dress someone else's child for the ball.
Why hadn't she given birth to a son? Why? Now with Leopold's fate hanging by a thread, uncertain whether he'd pull through, the possibility of having another son seemed bleak. Was this scruel joke of fate? Unable to bear it any longer, she crumpled to the floor, weeping uncontrollably.
Jewel patted her shoulder, “Keep it together, Megan. Finding the kid is what matters now.” Megan clenched her teeth, “If my child can’t be the Stirling heir, then neither will Aurelia’s. Let it all burn.” She would kill Kane, the cursed child. He had to die.
The genetic test results were in, showing a significant match with Skyler.
Aurelia smacked her lips, looking over the report, “Might as well call this kid Skyler’s biological son.” Identical twins share almost the exact DNA, so much so that their children can have a high genetic similarity, meeting the threshold for biological parenthood.
There had been a real-life case where a woman had relations with identical twin brothers. When she had a child and went for a paternity test, it was impossible to tell who the father was because the DNA of both men matched that of the child’s biological fatherhood.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLeopold stirred his coffee while reclining in his chair, “Unless Geoffrey isn’t Skyler’s identical twin brother, he’s got to be his split personality. There's no other explanation.” Aurelia let out a cold laugh, “The harder they try to hide something, the closer you are to the truth.” After a pause, she asked softly, “Has Megan taken the child for a paternity test yet?” “No,” Leopold tapped his fingers lightly on the rim of his cup.
She was taken aback, “Is she scared, or does she not believe you?” “What a foolish woman,” Leopold's lips curled in a sneer.
Aurelia understood. Megan must have bought into AK Group's lies, which is why she skipped the paternity test.
Even now, she was clinging to AK Group as her lifeline, likely beyond any hope of being sober.
“What's your next move?” she inquired.
Leopold sipped his coffee leisurely, “I have my plans.” With a roll of her eyes, Aurelia couldn't contain her irritation, “Can’t you cluein?” He always talked about trust, but trust was a two-way street. He didn’t trust her, keeping his schemes close to his chest, yet he expected her trust in return. Dream on! Leopold's lips parted in a mysterious smile as he reached out to pat her head, “When it's tto tell you, you'll be the first to know.” Aurelia bit back her frustration. If only he had confided in her three years earlier about the rescue plan, she wouldn't have panicked and fled the country, falling right into the enemy's trap.
Their separation, their near misses, the end of their connection, it was all on him.
