Skyler drawled, a twinkle in his eye. "Our bodies are teeming with tiny cells, but to them, we're like the earth itself. That's why we should treasure life. We're not just living for us. We're a whole universe to these tiny cells.
When someone's dying, their cells fight like hell to save him like how we'd battle to save our home. If we kick the bucket, those little dependents go down with the ship." Ramona's eyes widened with wonder. "Wow, that means we must live well and take good care of ourselves and all the other lives, too." She was determined to use her smarts to take down the bad guys and rescue her Mom and Dad from trouble.
William snickered behind his hand, finding it more apparent that Skyler was becoming quite the teacher.
Vivian sneaked a quick look at Kane, truly observing him up close for the first time. He was easy on the eyes, and she had a soft spot for handsboys.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtChild prodigies usually had minds beyond their years, except for Skyler, who seemed in no hurry to grow up.
"So, club recruitment's this afternoon. Have you guys figured out what you wanna join?" Ramona inquired with excitement.
"What clubs are there?" William asked, eager to know his options.
"Space Pioneers, GenExplorers, Hackers Syndicate, Medical Mysteries, Artificial Intelligence, and so on. One student can sign up for two," Ramona explained. She had arrived at school two weeks early and had the inside scoop.
"I'll go for Medical Mysteries and GenExplorers," William decided, thinking a surgeon with a knack for psychology would be pretty badass.
Ramona grinned. "Wow, shere. We can team up then." Kane naturally gravitated toward Artificial Intelligence and Hackers Syndicate.
Vivian decided on Space Pioneers and, like Kane, Artificial Intelligence.
After lunch, they wandered around the campus, and from a distance, they saw an older student approaching with a posse in tow, deep in discussion.
Ramona whispered, "That's the student council president. He's a fifth-grader and will step down next year.
There'll be elections for a new president, and we can all throw our hats in the ring." She glanced at Kane. "Your dad used to be the president, didn't he? Are you going to run?" "Maybe next year," Kane shrugged casually.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmRamona then turned to William. "What about you?" William played it cool. "If Kane runs, I'll be his campaign advisor." He didn't fancy competing against Kane. Brothers should stick together. If they both ran, they'd split the vote. If he campaigned for Kane, his supporters might back Kane, too.
Kane shot him a look, secretly hoping William would join the competition. If they could both win, the presidency would stay in the family. It didn’t matter who held the title as long as it didn't fall into the wrong hands.
"We'll talk about it next year." They had to keep a low profile, ambitions and all.
Ramona looked on enviously. "You guys are tight. I'm an only child for now, no siblings to speak of." She was secretly relieved, though. Siblings might have meant more targets for kidnappers.
Skyler chuckled. "I've got three younger brothers, a sister, and an older brother." "Wow, Mr. Heninger, your family's like a whole squad!" Ramona stuck her tongue out playfully.
Scratching his head with a sheepish smile, Skyler admitted, "Yeah, we're kind of a big family." Just then, a teacher approached.
"Mr. Heninger, there's a meeting this afternoon in the first-floor conference room. Don't be late." "Yeah, sure," Skyler nodded. "Thanks." He wasn't a fan of meetings, which made him tired and sleepy. Being an adult could be a drag. Kids had it better, no doubt.
