Aurelia's lips curled into a sad smile, tinged with the irony of her predicament. "He's the earth, and I'm the moon. | keep trying to break free from his pull, yet | can't escape his gravitational grip. I'm caught in his orbit forever." Upstairs, Guardian Leopold's icy gaze flickered enigmatically in the soft lights.
Her analogy couldn't be more fitting. She could never escape his influence, whether she liked it or not.
Beverley sighed, feeling sadness and resignation for Aurelia. Even after the divorce, Aurelia was still tethered, unable to remarry freely.
"Leopold's no earth. At least, the earth and moon are exclusive. Leopold? He's more like the sun, with not just one, but eight planets, plus a bunch of comets and asteroids revolving around him." That comment hit Leopold like a ton of bricks and left him speechless.

Aurelia choked back a response, not because she thought Leopold was a womanizer but because he was fickle and heartless to her.
When he adored someone, he treasured them like a rare gem. But, once his affection waned, he discarded them like an old shoe.
"It's not unusual for a handsand successful man like Mr. Leopold to have many women around him. He's way better than Mr.
Chad, not nearly the Casanova you're making him out to be. Most of the flings are just for show." "Still, you're quite forgiving of Leopold. If he ccrawling back, would you consider remarrying him?" Beverley probed.
"lI don't know." Aurelia shrugged indifferently. "If he wantedback, I'd make him chasefor a few years to prove his true commitment. Men never appreciate what they acquire too easily." Beverley snickered. "Divorce is a momentary thrill, but wooing your ex back is a whole different funeral pyre." Upstairs, Leopold massaged his temples helplessly, feeling wronged yet desperate.
Was she saying she wouldn't consider remarrying him until she was thirty? As he pondered, Beverley's voice sounded again. "What about Arnold? Would you say yes if he proposed to you after his divorce?" Aurelia didn't want to answer that. Arnold would forever be her confidant, her one and only.
"Why are you so nosy today? Who knows what the future holds? We'd better not to overthink it. It only leads to unnecessary worry." Beverley pulled a face. "I bet you'd choose Arnold if Arnold and Leopold both wanted to get back together with you." "Why?" Aurelia inquired.
"Because Arnold was your first love, and it was love at first sight. Besides, you've said you would feel more at ease with him. | think Arnold loves you more than Leopold does. Apart from work, he's scandal-free these days, practically a saint. On the other hand, Leopold is too much of an enigma." If he loved Aurelia, he wouldn't have divorced her in the first place, let alone married Megan.
Lurking at the stairwell, Leopold felt he'd been stabbed straight in the heart, bleeding internally.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHis reputation of being a womanizer was all a damnable facade.
Aurelia merely smiled faintly. "Mr. Leopold's mind is indeed hard to read. As the head of the Stirling Group, how could he manage his empire if people could read his mind easily? To him, every woman is only a passing fancy, and none could truly manipulate him.." The man on the stairs begged to differ. The one woman in the world who could manipulate him was her. In her presence, he was utterly transparent, never hiding a thing. Her distrust and unwillingness to understand him was the barrier.
After Beverley left, Aurelia returned to her room.
Leopold entered, his face shadowed with gloom.
That little minx Beverley had taken advantage of his absence to land blow after blow.
"Next tshe comes to gossip, just ignore her," he said, trying to mask his irritation.
"Are you upset?" Aurelia teased, a playful twinkle in her eye.
Leopold, clearly ruffled, furrowed his brow even deeper.
