Kenneth took each step a tad slower, listening for any sign that Everett was trailing behind him.
After a while of not hearing his footsteps, Kenneth quietly turned around to check on him. Then he had to rub his eyes, wondering if he was seeing things.
Everett was shedding tears. He was actually crying.
Even though he was silent, the profound sadness in his eyes and the crimson hue creeping up on his face couldn't be hidden.
Tears slid down his cheek, staining the collar of his crisp white shirt as the wet patch slowly expanded.
It was said that men didn't shed tears easily, only when they were truly heartbroken.
Everett must really love Dorothy. At least in this moment, Kenneth didn't doubt his sincerity for a second.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAfter a moment's hesitation, he took out his iPhone and snapped a picture of Everett crying, planning to send it to Dorothy.
He believed that if Dorothy saw this, things might take a turn. She might change her mind.
But when Kenneth pulled up Dorothy’s WhatsApp contact, his fingers froze over the 'send’ button.
He didn't send the picture.
If.... If Dorothy got back together with Everett, he had a gut feeling that he'd lose his chance to be by Dorothy's side forever.
Forgive him this one time for being selfish.
Silently stowing away his phone, Kenneth turned and left, not waiting for Everett any longer.
He thought that if fate had arranged for Everett to hear about Dorothy's pregnancy at this time, then so be it. If not, it was meant to be too.
Dorothy thought she would be up all night; after all, the wedding was tomorrow, and she and Everett were going their separate ways.
The next time they met, who knew what the circumstances or their relation to each other would be? But perhaps due to her pregnancy, she drifted off to sleep almost as soon as she closed her eyes.
She was awakened by the ring of her phone. It was a call from an unknown number.
"Hello, Ms. Sanchez. I'm from the wedding planning company; I'm here to pick you up." "I'l be down in a moment." After hanging up, Dorothy hurriedly got up to get ready.
Since she was going to get her makeup done later anyway, she didn't bother with it herself and descended the stairs bare-faced.
Seeing a black car parked by the curb, Dorothy walked over to it, opened the car door, and sat down, only to realize that Everett was also in the car.
Dorothy was taken aback.
Wasn't the groom supposed to be waiting for her at the wedding venue on the day of the wedding? Even if it was to pick up the bride, they weren't supposed to see each other at this phase.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"The wedding was rushed, and there was no time for a dress rehearsal. This is the first time I've ever done this." He wanted to marry Dorothy and be with her every step of the way, even accompanying her to try on her wedding gown.
Dorothy pursed her lips, not quite understanding Everett's intentions, but it was their last day together, so she let him have his way.
The two of them remained silent for the entire ride.
The driver, however, found this rather unusual. He had driven many newlyweds before, some of whom even argued during the ride, but this was the first pair that was so quiet.
Upon reaching the bridal boutique, Dorothy pushed open the door to get out of the car. She looked up to find that Everett had already stepped out ahead of her, extending his hand towards her.
"Link arms." Everett ordered.
Dorothy hesitated for a moment, but eventually chose to link arms with him.
Everett had broad shoulders that provided a sense of security, even when she was merely leaning on them lightly.
He had workout equipment at his Bay Residence home, and Dorothy had seen him working out early in the morning.
"I chose the wedding dress for you."
