Upon hearing this, Abigail's eyes widened, and her little head shook.
"No, you can't tell Mommy!" She was certain her mother wouldn't approve.
"Alright then, how about | go and get you some candy? You stay here and don't wander off, okay?" Everett was worried that the child's parents would panic if they couldn't find her. Since he had already taken up the role of the good guy, he might as well help her out.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Um..." Abigail tilted her head and mulled it over for quite some time. Eventually, with a serious expression, she handed over her five dollars to the handsome man in front of her.
She then turned her little eyes on him, unable to hide her doubts about this man. "Sir, you're not going to cheat me out of her money, right?" Who would have thought that the CEO of the Lopez Corporation, of all people, would be suspected of cheating a little girl out of five dollars? Everett couldn't help but laugh. "Don't worry, | will be right back." He took the money, not because he needed it, but because he didn't want her to run off with it while he was buying the candy.
Without the money, she was likely to stay put at the hotel entrance.
Everett, with his long strides, headed towards the nearby supermarket. He glanced down at the five dollars in his hand and couldn't help but smile.
For some reason, the little girl possessed a certain charm that made him want to be near her. Maybe it was because he was in his thirties, or maybe it was because her eyes resembled someone else's.
He didn't usually have the time or interest in children, but something about this little girl softened his heart.
A thought suddenly popped into his head.
How nice would it be if she were his daughter? This thought made Everett pause before his eyes dimmed. He was unlikely to have children in his lifetime because he didn't want them to grow up in a loveless household.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmOnce at the supermarket, Everett picked up several types of candy from the shelves. He got milk candy, lollipops, and more. He had no idea what the girl would like.
Of course, the five dollars wouldn't be enough.
After paying for the candy, he made his way back to the hotel, beaming as he imagined the joy on the little girl's face when she saw the bag of candy. Surely, her familiar eyes would light up with delight.
But when Everett returned to the hotel entrance, the little girl was nowhere to be found.
He went inside to look for her but found no trace of her.
Everett assumed she had been found by her parents, but he still had her candy. Did that mean he owed her five dollars? After a moment's hesitation, he went to the front desk and asked in a deep voice, "Excuse me, could you tell me which room the little girl who was at the entrance earlier is staying in?" The receptionist looked up and was momentarily stunned by his handsome face.
"Sir, are you acquainted with her?" "Not exactly." After all, he didn't even know her name.
"I'm sorry, but we can't disclose guest information.” Everett held up the bag of candy. "I wanted to give her this." "In that case, let me call the room and check. Could you please wait a moment?" "Sure." Everett waited patiently as the receptionist dialed the room. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed room number 908 displayed on the phone screen.
