"Beep—" His iPhone chimed and a message had just come through.
Byte 7: [Are you serious to take revenge on your father?] Langston snorted, texting back quickly. [Yeah, you gonna back me up, right?] Byte 7: [Boy, you really know how to stir the pot, don't you? Dropped the whole Lopez Corporation issue right on my lap! If it weren't for you, I'd be charging at least 50 million for this job.] [Well, aren't | your favorite apprentice?] Langston added a tongue-out emoji for good measure.
Byte 7 abruptly ended the conversation. But Langston knew this was his mentor's way of saying 'yes'. The man was as elusive as they came, but he never hesitated to lend a hand when Langston needed one.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWith Kenneth around, Dorothy finally felt safe enough to let loose and get properly drunk. Worried she'd have no one to look after her, Kenneth had refrained from drinking. Only Dorothy kept non-stop drinking.
He didn't hold her back this time.
Everyone deserves to get a little tipsy once in a while, right? Why not let her drown her sorrows just this once? "Why am | so upset, huh? What gives me the right to feel this way?!" On their way back to the hotel, Dorothy clung to Kenneth's shirt, questioning him relentlessly.
"You're human, aren't you?" Kenneth replied. "And you certainly have the right. After all, you're the woman who bore Everett's children.” He didn't voice the last part, though. Watching Dorothy confess herself, he found himself less worried about her.
Once they reached the hotel, Kenneth tried to help her inside, but she gently pushed his hand away.
"I don't want to go back to that dark room. | want to sit out here for a while." "Alright, I'l stay with you." Kenneth fetched two chairs from inside the hotel. "Sit down, you'll catch a cold on the ground.” Dorothy nodded obediently, looking like a little girl.
Kenneth didn't say much, just listened and quietly wiped her tears away when they fell.
"We're over. We've been over for a long time." "I made my choice when | filed for divorce! Isn't this what | wanted?" "But it hurts,” Dorothy clutched at her chest, choking on her words. "I can't truly wish him happiness with another woman. | thought | could!" Kenneth sighed softly. "Time heals all wounds. Give it time." "Really?" Dorothy looked at him, her eyes wide with hope. "Can | really forget about Everett?" "You can. You just have to keep moving forward." "I can't,” Dorothy looked at him. "I have too much weighing me down. | don't think I'm drunk enough. I can still think clearly." She wanted to get blackout drunk, to not feel any pain, to just fall asleep.

Otherwise, she'd be in for a sleepless night.
Kenneth went off to a nearby convenience store while Dorothy stayed behind, watching the city lights dim and the occasional passerby.
Her phone suddenly rang. It was Lane.
Why would he be calling at this hour? She hesitated but eventually picked up.
"Dorothy, are you in Eldorria City?!" "How'd you know?" "Jeffrey said he saw you while he was driving by. He saw you and some guy getting cozy before entering a hotel!"
