Chapter 527 You Resembled Someone I Know
Gwendolyn cast a quick glance at him.
He should know the reason, no? It’s all because I’m afraid of awakening the green-eyed monster within him.
“If I had willingly chosen a gift for Charles, you would have been furious, wouldn’t you?”
Cedrick lowered his gaze, neither confirming nor denying. “You must be joking, Darling.”
Gwendolyn scoffed, “I never intended to pick a gift for Charles. I entrust that task to you. After all, men understand
other men best. Besides, it’s a token of gratitude for taking care of the babies. You should take it seriously too.”
“Fair enough,” Cedrick agreed, though he couldn’t help but cast a peculiar gaze at her.
If men truly understand men best, why did she help choose Nico’s gift?Isn’t Nico also a man?
With a resigned shake of his head, he proceeded to explore a luxury watch store. Soon after, he selected a black
and gold timepiece for Charles.
Once the gift was sorted, Cedrick accompanied Gwendolyn to the women’s clothing section, where he picked out
several dresses.
All the dresses were in different shades of green.
Gwendolyn couldn’t help but express her bewilderment. “Why are you only choosing dresses in this color range?”
“Because my wife has a particular fondness for green,” he responded with a warm smile.
It doesn’t mean that I need to have an exclusive wardrobe of that color.
However, bound by her promise to Cedrick last night, she refrained from voicing her thoughts and embraced his
choices with genuine acceptance.
Undeniably, his taste was impeccable, and the dresses he selected were stunning.
Finally, the moment Cedrick had been eagerly anticipating arrived-the visit to an adult ty store.
Gwendolyn had never ventured into such a place before, and she felt a surge of embarrassment engulf
her.
Her cheeks tinged with subtle blush as she stood twenty meters away from the entrance. She was clearly reluctant
to enter the store.
Cedrick turned to look at her and asked, “What’s the matter, Darling? Are you upset?”

“No decent girl would step foot in a place like this,” she hissed. Gathering her resolve, she continued, “I’ll wait
outside for you. Feel free to explore and choose according to your own preferences. Once you’re finished, come
find me.”
Considering her young age, it’s natural for her to feel shy to be in a place like this.
Cedrick decided not to push her further. “Don’t stray too far. I’ll quickly pick up some adorable outfits.”

Gwendolyn nodded.
Once Cedrick entered the ty store, she sat down in a resting area and used her phone.
After a short while, she heard the sound of high heels drawing nearer with each passing moment.

At first, she disregarded the sound, but her gaze instinctively shifted as a pair of white high heels came into view.
Her eyes traced the graceful contour of the slender legs upward.
It was Annie Steinfeld.
“What a coincidence! Paul and I always seem to run into you when we’re out shopping. Oh, why are you alone?
Where’s Mr. Jenson?”
Gwendolyn remained seated in a relaxed posture. She smiled and replied, “He’s buying something. You’re here with
Mr. Hall? How come I don’t see him?”
Annie’s makeup was exquisite, and she smiled gracefully. “He went to the restroom. I’m waiting for him outside.”
“Would you like to take a seat? Let’s chat for a while.”
“I’d be delighted.”
Gwendolyn shifted slightly, putting about a person’s shoulder width between them.
It was meant to symbolize the unbridgeable gap between them.
A minute passed in tranquil silence.
Finally, Annie tried to break the lingering tension.
“Congratulations, Ms. Harris, on the collaboration with Dovil Group. It’s a significant step that will allow Harris Group
to enter the international market.”
Gwendolyn glanced sideways at Annic and said flatly, “Thank you.”
However, Annie sighed and continued, “It’s unfortunate, though. It appears that Harris Group’s plan to expand
internationally through the partnership with Dovil Group might be on the verge of collapsing.”
Gwendolyn narrowed her eyes and tried to keep a straight face.
“What do you mean?”
Annie smiled faintly and gave an apologetic look. “When I mentioned the project bidding to Paul last night, he felt I
had put too much effort into this proposal. He said you secured the collaboration through unofficial means. He
sympathized with me and wanted to help me regain the opportunity to work with Dovil Group.”
Gwendolyn’s lips curved into a smirk. “Did Paul say all these nonsensical things while intoxicated in bed? And
besides, I edited my proposal countless times and experienced numerous sleepless nights. Unless I failed to submit
the proposal, you would never have the chance to work with Dovil Group.”
She had always treated her professional work seriously and was confident of her own abilities and expertise.
You Resembled Someone I Know
Even without any help from Cedrick, she was confident that the proposal she had personally crafted
would be the best.
Annie scrutinized Gwendolyn’s arrogant face.
“You truly shine when you’re confident, Ms. Harris. It’s a pity that once we venture into the international market, it
won’t be a simple rivalry between the Harris and Jenson families. There’s a whole world out there, and it’s filled with
individuals who surpass even the most accomplished among us.”
Gwendolyn stared at her, pondering the familiar tone in Annie’s words.
“Ms. Annie, the first time I saw you, I thought you resembled someone I know.”
Annie’s expression lit up. “Oh? Who?”
“My sister.”
As Gwendolyn spoke casually, her eyes carefully observed every movement Annie made.
“Really? I’m honored to remind you of your sister, Ms. Harris.”
Gwendolyn sneered, “I don’t actually like my sister. She’s just an illegitimate daughter of the Harris family. She

Annie’s smile gradually faded as tears welled up in her eyes. “Are you trying to use your sister to insinuate that I
overestimate myself?”
“No, it’s just a joke, Ms. Annie. Don’t take it to heart,” Gwendolyn reassured with a wry smile. “In terms of family
background, appearance, education, and personality, you surpass my terrible sister in every way. How could she
ever compare to you?”
Annie’s expression relaxed slightly as she asked, “It sounds like there is an extraordinary story between you and
your sister. I’m curious to know how she is doing now.”
“She’s dead. No ashes, no memorial tablet, no burial ground. My brother placed her name and photo on the public
memorial plaque. Everyone there are abandoned souls who will never be remembered. Even in heaven, she
remains alone.”
Annie was in shock. “She’s so pitiful.”
Gwendolyn chuckled softly. “She’s not pitiful. In fact, she almost tore the Harris family apart. She deserved the
punishment.”
Annie nodded thoughtfully. Just as she was about to probe further, Paul arrived.
Annie’s eyes welled up with tears, and she rushed into his arms. “Darling, why were you gone for so long? I missed
you.”
“I’m sorry, Honey.”
Paul then went on to kiss her passionately.
Soon after, he finally noticed Gwendolyn’s presence.
“Oh, Ms. Harris is here too.”
You Resembled Someone I Know
Gwendolyn nodded with a smile.
He allowed Annie to mischievously play with his golden stubble as his gaze remained fixed on Gwendolyn.
“Ms. Harris, Antea Group is keen on collaborating with Dovil Group for this project. Would you consider giving up this
opportunity? I am fully prepared to support Harris Group in seeking alternative partnerships as a means of
compensation.”
