Sophia took a nasty spill and banged her head, totally blanking on who she was and the life she had.
Brandon filled in for her, indirectly answering Susan's burning question about why Sophia had been MIA. Susan was stunned for a sec, her eyes clouded with concern as she looked at Sophia, "You ot everything?" The worry in Susan's eyes got Sophia feeling all down, but she nodded anyway, "Yeah." "So..." Susan furrowed her brow, "Is there a chance you'll remember? What's the doc saying?" "It's up in the air," Brandon chimed in.
A flicker of disappointment passed through Susan's eyes, but she perked up quick and gave Sophia an encouraging smile, "No worries, the main thing is you're back." Sophia smiled back.
But to her, "you're back" didn't even feel real.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtShe was genuinely sad, sure, and the warmth was real, but so was her sense of being utterly lost.
This was the first tsinceing to that she felt this punch-in-the-gut fear about not remembering her past.
Maybe 'cause there was no real love lost between her, Harvey Ferber, and Amanda, she wasn't too shaken up about her memory wipe.
But now, with everyone in the room showing mega-surprise at seeing her, with all these strong emotional ties but no memories to back them up, Sophia just felt all kinds of unease and panic.
Brandon didn't miss the worry in her eyes and shot her a reassuring smile, his eyes softlyforting without making a sound. Sophia managed a half-smile back.
Little Theresa, who had been cuddling in her arms and listening to the chat, looked up, her eyes full of unease, "Mommy doesn't remember Theresa either?" Theresa's question only added to Sophia's heartache. Just as she was about to speak up, Brandon gently explained for her, "Mommy got really hurt and needs stto get better. Let's be patient and wait for her memories toe back, okay?" Theresa nodded seriously, "Okay." Brandon offered his hand, "How about we hop off mommy so she can rest a bit?" Theresa hesitated, her grip on Sophia's shirt tightening.
"Mommy's not going anywhere," Brandon coaxed, "With dad, godmom, and Kent here, no one can take mommy away again. There's nothing to worry about, Theresa." But Theresa just stared at Sophia with her swollen red eyes.
"I..." Sophia, seeing her troubled look, blurted out a promise, "Mommy won't ever leave Theresa behind." That seemed to calm Theresa's fears a bit, but she still cautiously extended her pinky, "Pinky promise?" "Sure." Sophia matched her pinky with Theresa's and bumped thumbs to seal the deal, and only then did Theresa relax, allowing Brandon to scoop her up.
Susan's mood mellowed, and suddenly remembering they were in a hospital, she quickly asked about Sophia's health. "It's nothing serious," Sophia said softly, "Just passed out from being too emotional." But Susan wasn't quite buying it and looked to Brandon for the real scoop.
"The doctors say she's okay," Brandon confirmed, "But she's been through a lot physically and still needs to recuperate." "That's a relief," Susan sighed, and couldn't resist asking Sophia, "When did you wake up? That fall must have been bad, huh?" Sophia just shook her head with a smile, "It's alright, no biggie." She left out that she had actually been discharged from the hospital not too long ago.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmBrandon glanced at Sophia.
But judging by herplexion, it probably hadn't been a walk in the park.
Seeing Sophia downplay it, Susan felt a bit more at ease and couldn't help but ask how she was found.
"Who found and saved you?" Susan asked, overflowing with gratitude for the person who brought Sophia back, practically her savior, "We need to give them a huge thanks..." "It's a long story," Brandon cut in, "Let's save it for another time." "Right, look at me, getting all excited and etting you're still sick," Susan said, checking her phone for the time, "It's about tfor lunch, why don't we go grab sfood?" "Yeah, let's eat first. I've ordered from the restaurant; it should be ready by now," Kent chimed in with a smile, "Let's go get the food." And with that, he and Susan headed out.
The room quieted down.
Brandon looked at Sophia, "Feeling any difort?" Sophia shook her head, "Nope, I'm good." "The doctor said you're fine to leave the hospital once you wake up," Brandon said, his gaze lingering on her, "After you're discharged, Theresa and I would really like it if you moved back in with us. Would you be okay with that?" S
