Chapter 54 - Her Secret Identity
Lucas's entire face straightened up in cold. He had no idea how to handle the situation in front of him because it was already out of his hands.
Moreover, his grandfather's yelling didn't stop at all. It made him quite scared when he banged the desk in anger. "Tell Lucas, have you forgotten the basic rules that you learned in your childhood?"
"N..No... Grandfather. Not at all. Those lessons were lifelong. All I'm stating is the situation that I'm facing right now. How can these be termed as those foul excuses?"
He knew that his grandfather hates excuses to be given and turned to twist the entire conversation but it didn't work for him either. "Accept failure that you let your bride being kidnapped or get her back and show me that you won. Are you willing to accept that you failed against the Johnsons?"
The Johnsons... the enmity between the two groups has been so deep that it has been running until now, generations to generations being passed on.
But what took him by surprise was his grandfather's words. A frown settled on his forehead when he asked, "How do you know that Jennifer is kidnapped by the Johnsons?"
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtA chuckle left his grandfather's mouth, but it wasn't a mere chuckle. It was scoff at Lucas's dumb brain. "I'm your grandfather. I have more contacts than you and if I hear that you have messed up, do you think that I will not even look into it once?"
"You could have told me earlier so that I could have watched them and bring Jennifer back!" He wasn't able to digest the fact that his grandfather knew about the kidnapper before him and still he didn't inform him about it.
But in grandfather Smith's eyes, he found it utterly stupid for him to tell his grandson related to his own wife's kidnapping?
Raising his eyebrow,s grandfather Johson asked, "Are you so useless that you can't even find your own bride's kidnapper? Wasn't the most obvious thought that was supposed to be of the Johnsons? Who else if not them?" His grandfather's words did strike on the heated rod.
If not Johnsons then who? Moreover, the first name that appears in his mind was rather the eldest heir of the Johnson family or the younger one.
At last, he found out that Jennifer is kept at one of their distant islands which belongs to the young heir of the Johnsons.
"If you had told me earlier than before then I would have brought her before." That was what Lucas said in return for his grandfather's statement. "But If you haven't shown your impulsiveness then I'm pretty sure that they both won't escape your killers too easily."
No One stepped back from the sarcasm. On the one end was Lucas who wasn't willing to accept the failure and another was Elder master smith for whom his pride is way above then other things in this world.
Grandfather motioned Lucas to go near the table and pour the tea for both of them through the cattle that Butler left for them. Lucas nodded his head and walked to the table and carefully poured the tea into the cups and offered them to his grandfather in a respectful manner.
"I must say that your actions aren't at least clumsy. Unlike your father who… was of no use either." Lucas froze.
He doesn't know who to react after hearing his grandfather mentioning his late father who isn't there anymore among them. He always had mixed emotions towards him and the relationship wasn't great.
Lucas lowered his head to listen to his grandfather's words filled with bad comments when he continued. "Your father wasn't into these things. Because of that, I had to train you since childhood. If your useless father had followed the way I was guiding him, he would have been on the top of the world and our.. forget about it." Grandfather took a sip of the tea and looked at the large window.
The sky was all blurry and it made it look mesmerizing. "Grandfather, I do not like losing. In this race as well, by the hock or crock, I will have Jennifer beside me and no one else can stop me from achieving this."
"You better stand on your promise otherwise I might have to take serious actions against you which won't be liked either by you or your mother. She will be utterly upset with my results then."
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmIt was a clear-cut threat from his side. He wasn't joking at all because his straight face of his was never have been more serious.
Lucas nodded his head in return. "All we have to do is to make sure that Jennifer's identity isn't revealed by anyone. If that is leaked then we will be in danger and… gaining her will not be possible."
"Indeed." The grandfather finished his tea and then opened one of his books to read, asking Lucas to go and do the rest of the work.
Lucas was relieved that finally he can escape the tense environment but that didn't go as bad he earlier thought. He didn't face much of the ruthless from the old man.
Moreover, he was expecting much more but rather, his grandfather disclosed some information with prime most motive. It wasn't hidden from his eyes since he was successful in getting it.
But before he was almost going to step out of the room, he heard his grandfather's deep voice. "Will you be able to handle Johnsons or do I need to interfere in between?"
Lucas turned around to see his grandfather still emerged in reading. His eyes never left his book, all he asked without sparing a glance to him.
"I will be handling the talks between the two states with peace at first but if it gets difficult…" He stopped in the middle to gain Grandfather's attention. "Then… the war begins once again and your peace treaty will be the sole thing to sought things."
