The Alpha Bond 125 The air in the training grounds still carried the weight of yesterday's battle. I could feel it—a lingering tension, the kind that crawled under your skin and refused to leave. My body ached from or morning drills, but the soreness was nothing compared to the unease curling in my gut.

Eira had called us together after training, her expression unreadable as she stood before us. Her usual confidence was there, but something in her stance had shifted-guarded, calculating. That wasn't like her.

We stood in a loose circle, my mates surroundinglike an unspoken shield. Austin stood just to my left, arms crossed, his body radiating tension. Isaiah and Alex flanked me, their gazes sharp and alert, while Elijah lingered just behind, silent but watchful.

Eira's expression was unreadable, her stance unwavering. There was shift in the air around her-something colder, sharper. I had seen her serious before, but today, there was something else behind her gaze.

After what felt like an eternity she finally spoke.

"The witch you battled yesterday..." Her eyes flickered toward me. "She wasn't just any witch of the Children of the Eclipse. She was a high witch. One of their leaders." A sharp silence fell over us.

A slow, creeping sense of dread slithered through me.

Austin was the first to speak. "That doesn't make sense. No one knew we were here." "Yes your right Austin," she replied "Every precaution was taken to keep your location hidden. If they were going to attack, they should've gone after the Umbral Society's headquarters in the human realm. Because that is where everyone thinks you are. The fact that they chere instead..." her voice trailed off as the realization hit. "It means one thing." Alex's jaw tightened. "There's a traitor among you." The words rang in my ears.

Isaiah cursed under his breath. "You're saying someone sold us out?" Eira's expression was grim. "Yes." My stomach twisted.

Someone had given them our location. Someone had put us all in danger. A sharp, unrelenting anger built inside me, but I forced myself to stay calm. Losing control now wouldn't help us.

"Who?"Elijah asked, his voice low, dangerous.

Eira shook her head. "If I knew, we wouldn't be standing here discussing it." I had fought that witch-felt the darkness in her magic, the overwhelming power she carried. The battle had been brutal, and if it weren't for my mates, I might not have made it out alive. Who had sold us out to them? The only answer is that someone within their ranks had given away our location. Someone was working with the enemy and had led then straight to us "Don't trust anyone here," Eira as she looked at me, I was more convinced she was talking tobecause of how her eyes seemed to for us on me.

1/3 I studied Eira's expression, and then a dangerous thought surfaced.

"You're tellingnot to trust anyone." I said slowly.

Eira met my gaze. "Yes." I tilted my head. "Even you?" A small, knowing smile curled at her lips.

"If we find the keystone," I continued, my voice growing sharper, "we won't need the Umbral Society anymore. We won't have to follow your rules or regulations." Silence.

A flicker of amusement passed through her eyes before she nodded.

"The Umbral Society is a symbol of peace and unity between wolves and witches. She said seriously and then Eira chuckled softly. "1 like the woman you've become, Silver Wolf." She took a step closer, her eyes flickering like firelight.

"Remember," she said, voice quiet but firm. “Don't trust anyone. Not even me." The air left my lungs.

Her words were like a warning and a shiver ran down my spine.

I didn't break eye contact.

Eira had always been a mystery, but hearing her say that outright-not even me-it solidified what I had already suspected. She knew something but didn't want to share it with us.

I exhaled slowly. "Then what now?" Eira turned, her cloak billowing slightly as she began to walk away. But she paused, glancing back over her shoulder.

"We're running out of time," she said. "Your training ends here." I frowned. "What?" "Tomorrow," she said, "you face your last test." She smiled-cold, distant.

Then, she walked away, leaving us standing there with the weight of her words crashing down on us. Tomorrow would be the final test. And after that... we would begin our quest for the Lunar Keystone. Suddenly I didn't feel ready enough.

That night, I barely slept.

The shadows in my room felt longer, the silence heavier. Every sound made my wolf stir, her presence sharp and alert.

My mates were restless too. They had grabbed their mattresses and entered into my room like they owned the place and demanded a sleepover.

2/3 Elijah stretched out beside me, he and I slept on my bed while the rest put their mattresses on the floor, his presence groundedlike an anchor 1 turned to face him in the darkness.

"Do you think we're ready?" I whispered.

His amber eyes studiedfor a long moment before he answered. es." I exhaled, tension still gripping me. "Even if there's a traitor?" His fingers brushed against mine. "Especially if there's a traitor." I let out a quiet laugh. "You sound so sure." He smirked. "Because I am."

Silence settled between us for a few moments before he spoke again e softer this time: "You know we won't let anything happen to you, right?" I met his gaze, my heart tightening.

"I know"

He leaned in, pressing a kiss to my forehead. "Get ssleep, Starmi.

el Tomorrow is going to be hell." I smiled slightly. "It always is." As I drifted off, Sky whispered in my mind.

"The real battle hasn't even started yet." And she was right.

Tomorrow, we will face our final test.

And after that?

We would hunt for the keystone. But first, we have to decipher the riddle.

ve As soon as I thought about it I heard it ringing in my ears.
