Chapter 140 The Return of a Life

Faith collapsed to the ground, crying out, “Nicole is going to die!”

48 Pearls.

The door creaked open, and Isolde, still in her nightclothes, rushed out. She grabbed Faith's arm and asked,

“What happened?”

Seeing Isolde, Faith’s anger boiled over. She cried out, “You killed Nicole! You said you wouldn't make things

worse, but she hanged herself! She's about to die, and now Prudence says not to call the doctor. Nicole is going

to die because of you!”

Isolde’s heart sank. She immediately ordered, “Hattic, go fetch a doctor. Noelle, notify Geoffrey.”

She hurried to her room, grabbed a bottle of medicine, and rushed out. Hazel and Esme, who had been awoken

by the commotion, followed behind.

Faith, seeing them leave, quickly ran after them.

Isolde arrived at Wyngor Chamber to find Vance sitting in the corridor, a picture of sorrow and helplessness.

She quickly entered the room. Prudence was sitting in a chair with a stern expression, while Priscilla, by Nicole's

side, held her hand and sobbed uncontrollably.

As soon as Priscilla saw Isolde, she stormed toward her. “You wretched girl! How dare you chere? I'll kill you!

You've killed her!”

Isolde’s gaze darkened. Without a second thought, she kicked Priscilla in the stomach.

-Priscilla crashed to the ground, crying out in pain.

Prudence sprang to her feet, her face trembling with rage. She glared at Isolde. “How dare you?! You strike your

elders? What's next? Will you hittoo?”

Isolde stared at her, then placed a hand on her arm and pushed her aside, as Hattie stepped in to catch

Prudence, preventing her from falling.

Their coordinated movements ensured that even if Prudence tried to blIsolde for any mishap, she couldn't.

Isolde moved swiftly to Nicole's bedside. Nicole was lying on the bed, a thin blanket covering her. Her face bore

the marks of strangulation, dark purple bruises from the hanging. Isolde pulled the blanket back to reveal the

black-and-purple rope marks on her neck.

Nicole still had faint breath, but it was barely there. Isolde took out the last of her Consumption Pills-a vital

medicine known to stimulate blood flow and restore energy. It was her final hope to keep Nicole alive long

enough for the doctor to arrive.

“Hattie, bring swater,” Isolde commanded.

The pill was too difficult for Nicole to swallow directly, so it needed to be dissolved in water and force-fed to

her.

Priscilla, seeing Isolde administering the medicine, seethed, “What are you giving her?”

dying and ruining your family’s reputation.”

She dissolved the pill in the water, gently lifted Nicole's head, and pressed the liquid into her mouth. As Priscilla

rushed to stop her, Isolde expertly kicked a low table toward her, forcing Priscilla to jump out of the way.

The medicine went down, and Hattie carefully helped Nicole lie back down. She took the empty bowl! from Isolde

and placed it on the table, giving Priscilla a cold, piercing glance.

Priscilla, startled by the murderous look in Hattie’'s eyes, stepped back in fear. “What do you want?” she asked,

trembling.

“The Pearl Tower is nothing more than a den of thieves,” Hattie hissed, her voice low and venomous. “You're her

mother, aren’t you? Prudence told you not to call for a doctor, and you obeyed her? What kind of mother are

you? You should die for your incompetence. Maybe if you suffocated yourself with your own spit, you'd save

everyone the trouble.”

Priscilla, enraged, was speechless.

Isolde continued, fanning Nicole and muttering curses under her breath. “Look at you. You'd rather die than face

your problems? | was abandoned at the estate, left to suffer alone, but I survived. Whoever wronged you, you

could've fought back. Suicide is no answer.”

Isolde’s words seemed harsh, but deep down, she felt guilty. She knew she was partly responsible. The situation

had spiraled out of control. She had expected Nicole to be stronger, but she never imagined she'd be so fragile.

Soon, Hazel arrived with the doctor, but he was accompanied by a familiar face: Anthony.

Isolde had almost forgotten about him.

Hazel, panting, explained, “It’s late, and the doctor wasn’t at the clinic. | didn’t know where he lived. Fortunately,

I ran into Collin and Anthony, who knew the doctor's whereabouts. Anthony carried him here on his back.”

The doctor, though elderly, was steady when treating Nicole, and his skill with acupuncture was impressive. He

worked swiftly, inserting needles at key points along Nicole's neck.

Before long, Nicole began to stir, coughing weakly before slowly opening her eyes.

Priscilla, seeing her daughter's revival, rushed to her side. Without saying a word, she slapped Nicole across the

face. “You foolish girl! You scared your mother to death! How could you be so rebellious? After everything, you

still tried to die!”

She slapped Nicole again, then hugged her, crying uncontrollably.

Isolde, who had been watching, was about to kick Priscilla in retaliation, but seeing her cry so deeply, she

hesitated and refrained.

Nicole's eyes were filled with pain and resentment. She stared at Isolde, her gaze turning from sorrow to pure

hatred.

The doctor, breathing a sigh of relief, said, “She’s alive.”

Prudence, who hadn't expected Nicole to survive, felt a mix of relief and frustration. She was glad Nicole had

been saved, but anger simmered within her.

Geoffrey had been waiting for stoutside but chose not to enter. Upon hearing that Nicole was fine, he

simply turned and left.

As Hattie saw the doctor off, Anthony also moved to leave.

Prudence, turning to Anthony, said, “Thanks to you, Anthony. Please cto our house for swine one day.”

Anthony shot her a glare, his voice rough as he replied, “Your wine isn’t worth my time. You're a malicious old

woman. | still haven't forgotten the debt from before. If you crossagain, I'll throw shit at you.”

He stormed out with the doctor, not sparing Isolde a second glance.

Prudence, furious, realized that Isolde had trapped her in a corner. If she didn’t fight back, she would be utterly

destroyed.

Turning to Hazel, Isolde said coldly, “Clear the room. Only those who need to be here stay. | have swords for

her.”

Hazel nodded, and with an exaggerated bow to Prudence, said, “Prudence, please leave. It's late, you should

rest.”

Prudence’s eyes flashed with anger, but she suppressed it. She walked over to Nicole and said, “Rest now. I'll see

you tomorrow.”
