Chapter 89 I'll Marry You
Two days before Oliver left for Wetinson with his troops, something unexpected happened.
Cristina showed up at Southern Watch with two maids to break off the engagement.
A woman personally delivering an annulment notice was unheard of.

Normally, the parents would bring a matchmaker over to explain the reason, ensuring the other party accepted it
without turning it into a scandal or a joke. After all, reputation mattered a lot to the prominent families.
For Cristina to handle it herself made waves in Argentum.
Moreover, she didn’t go to Marquis Eldermere’s estate. Instead, she went straight to Southern Watch.
Since everyone there knew she was the Great Marshal's fiancée, they let her through.
When Cristina saw Oliver, she got straight to the point and said coldly, “Here's the annulment letter. Take it.
Once you do, our engagement is over, and we're free to marry whomever we choose.”
Oliver looked at her with a stunned expression and asked, “Why?”
“You're not good enough for me. I'm out of your league.” Cristina sneered. “Don’t think that just because you
becGreat Marshal thanks to your father's name, you're now truly powerful. You're nothing but a clown.”If
Marquis of Eldermere hadn't supported you, would you be where you are today? | despise people like you who
climb up through nepotism. You're an embarrassment to your father! If you lack real ability, no matter how high
you rise, you'll fall just as fast. I'll be waiting for that day to come.”
With that, she smiled disdainfully, turned around, and walked away with her maids without sparing Oliver
another glance.
Oliver looked up and saw Isolde standing outside with a wine jar in her arms.
She had cto deliver wine to Doug and had accidentally witnessed the scene.
She looked at Oliver, whose face was unreadable, but there was a flicker of embarrassment in his eyes. Isolde
wasn't sure what to say or if she should say anything at all.
Oliver quickly composed himself, crumpled the annulment letter in his hand, and said calmly, “There you
are.”

Isolde nodded and said, “I mentioned before that I'd treat you to a drink. | heard you're leaving for Wetinson in
two days, so | cto see if you had ttoday.”
There was a trace of mockery in Oliver's eyes as he said, “Are you pitying me? No need.”
“What right do | have to pity you? Didn't | just get dumped too?” Isolde replied with a smile.
Oliver laughed as well, but the gloom in his eyes remained. “I'm leaving for Wetinson the day after tomorrow. |
don’t feel like drinking these days, but thanks for the offer.”
He stepped past her, his scent of Sage Fragrance surrounding her as he walked away.
Isolde subconsciously turned around and said, “Oliver, just one more thing.”

Oliver stopped in his tracks and stated indifferently, “If it's words of comfort, don’t bother. I'm fine.”

“No.” Isolde shook her head, walked around to face him, and grinned. “I'll wait for you to cback and treat
Isolde was naturally good-looking, but when she flashed that radiant smile with her bright eyes gleaming and
white teeth showing, it was as if a beam of sunshine suddenly shone over Oliver, warming the chill in his heart.
“All right.” He reached out and ruffled her hair. He was tall, his features sharp, the light behind him forming a
halo, exuding an air of quiet authority. “When | return, I'll buy you a drink.”
“Deal!” Isolde said happily.
After a moment of silence, Oliver suddenly said, “If you're still unmarried when | cback, and if you don’t
mind me, I'll cand propose.”
Before Isolde could respond, he turned and strode away.
Just then, Hattie and Hazel rushed over, flanking Isolde and dragging her inside, forcing her into a chair.
“Drink swater and calm down.” Hazel grabbed a cup from the table, not even checking who had left it there.
Isolde didn’t care. She downed it in one gulp, and her heart was pounding. She grabbed Hattie’s hand and asked
with a flushed face, “Did you hear what he just said?”
“He said he'd marry you!” Hattie confirmed.
“Well...” Isolde’s eyes sparkled. “Do you think he just said that because he was upset and needed comfort?”
“Marshal Valois doesn’t seek comfort,” Hazel replied.
Isolde patted her own cheeks, trying to calm herself down. It was something she never dared to imagine.
Even when Dough had mentioned it a few times, she still thought it was impossible.
She never expected that someone would ever take a woman like her seriously. Just the thought of it felt like
wishful thinking and pure fantasy.
“Is it true? Does he really want to marry me?” Isolde murmured, but at the stime, she couldn't believe that
something this good would ever happen to her.
Everything good in her life had been won with her fists.
“No one is allowed to talk about this, especially in front of Mr. Becker,” Isolde warned Hazel and Hattie.
She wasn’t sure what Oliver was thinking or if he had just said that casually. She couldn’t help but think maybe
his engagement with Cristina hadn’t been called off at all, and as soon as he returned from Westinson, he would
marry Cristina very soon. By then, she would make a complete fool of herself.
“Miss!” Hattie looked at her and asked slowly, “Do you like Marshal Valois?”
Isolde froze. She hadn't never considered that.
“If you don’t, why are you so excited?” Hattie pressed.

Isolde pondered over it for a moment. To her, liking someone felt like a luxury.
Even in her past life, before she married William, she hadn't liked him. She had simply felt that marrying into his
family was beyond her reach.
Hattie, usually quiet, continued, “Marshal Valois has a terrible reputation. None of the girls like him. Otherwise,
Miss Felton wouldn't have called off the engagement.”
“My reputation isn’t great either,” Isolde waved her hand dismissively. “Enough, stop talking. The way you're

“Honestly, do you want to marry him?” Hattic asked.
Isolde certainly wanted, but she said otherwise, “What nonsense! What kind of girl admits to something like
that? Marriages are decided by the parents. Alright, conversation is over!” Isolde waved her hand again.
Hazel scoffed, “Wow, that’s bold of you to say. If marriages were really decided by parents, why didn’t you marry
that blockhead?”
Isolde couldn't be bothered to argue. She put down her drink, gave instructions to the men at Southern Watch,
and left.
Because of what Oliver had said, she was in a good mood for two whole days.
When she ran into Matilda in the courtyard, she even did something unprecedented and smiled at her, asking,
“Madam, you're finally set free?”
After Milton's incident was settled, Geoffrey interrogated Matilda about whether she had secretly given Milton a
poison needle. To prove her innocence, Matilda had thrown herself against a wall and bled a little.
Geoffrey hadn't believed her, but he had stopped pressing the issue. However, Matilda had grounded ever since.
Therefore, Isolde was a bit surprised to see her in the courtyard.
Matilda smiled sinisterly and said, “Isolde, | may not be able to deal with you, but someone will. Just wait
and see.”
Hearing that, Isolde immediately knew that Prudence must be returning.
She chuckled and said, “What's there to be so smug about? Do you really think life will get better for you just
because the old lady is coming back? Have you forgotten the suffering you endured before? And don’t forget,
you were the one who betrayed her. You confessed to everything she did.”
Matilda said hatefully, “I'll make sure you suffer with me.”
“Great! I'll be waiting.” Isolde smiled brightly and strode away.
Matilda glared after her, seething. “Let's see how long you can stay smug.”
