Isolde was just an insolent girl. Besides, Matha had always been strong-willed, so Priscilla figured there was no

way Martha would be at a disadvantage, and it was a good chance to teach that girl a lesson.

Prudence turned to Matilda and said, “Explain how this County Princess title cabout. Also, Geoffrey

mentioned that you've returned the stores to her. What's that about?”

Matilda immediately began complaining. “Mother, you know, this girl behaved properly for two years after

Isolde said lazily, “Do you think someone of Grandmother's status would lower herself to deal with me

personally?”

She added, “Priscilla has always been Grandmother's pawn. My grandmother rarely acts directly and prefers to
