Alicia stared at the ceiling, sleep eluding her. She had waited for Caden for so long, but he still hadn't cback. Despite this, she didn't want to contact him.

When her IV drip was done, she quietly made her way to the obstetrics department for a fetal examination. The specialist, noticing Alicia's distress, spoke gently.

"The baby is not even two months old yet. There's no need to check this frequently. Just continue with your medication, and we'll monitor again soon." Alicia sat up slowly, trying to steady herself.

"I had an accident recently. Will it affect the baby?" The specialist offered a reassuring smile.

"No, it shouldn't have. The IV was mainly for nutrition. Your baby is strong; there's already a heartbeat and a developing fetal bud. But you need to know that carrying to term could still be very risky." The unspoken warning hung heavy in the air, but the specialist couldn't bring herself to say more. She decided to give Alicia a moment of hope, even if fleeting.

Alicia perched on the edge of the bed, pressing an ice pack to her bruised cheek.

"There's really no hope, is there?" she whispered, her voice cracking.

The specialist let out a deep sigh, compassion etched in her features.

"Have you told your husband everything?" she asked softly.

Alicia's chest tightened, pain spreading like fire through her heart. Caden had already endured more than most could bear. He had faced Gareth's betrayal and watched years of his work fall into Dorian's grasp. Now, he was haunted by the image of her with another man, the details still unclear but searing in his mind. And now, learning he was to be a father only to have that hope cruelly dashed - it was too much. Could he bear it if she told him the truth? Alicia's heart ached at the thought. She couldn't bring herself to hurt him further, yet this was too grave a matter for her to keep to herself. She had to tell Caden.

When she returned to the apartment, the ultrasound results clutched tightly in her hand, she paused at the door, gathering her courage. Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside.

She expected Caden to be asleep, but the light from the study spilled into the e hallway.

He was in the middle of a meeting. At times like this, she would never disturb him. The bed in the bedroom was still unmade, and he hadn't even changed out of his pajamas, a sign of how urgent the situation was. He hadn't even taken a moment to eat.
