Chapter 42 You OweA Thorough Explanation
Hadley had previously headed to the Central Cinema in Metropolitan Plaza as Elvin requested to meet the movie
director Adonis, who was quite taken with her.
They set a date for her dance audition, and that day had arrived.
Arriving makeup-free so they could style her however they saw fit for the production, Hadley i ediately reached
out to Elvin.
“Hadley!”
Elvin rushed over, despite being swamped, and led her to the dressing room where a makeup artist was quickly
arranged.
“Join the others outside once you're finished with your makeup,” he instructed.
“Alright, thank you,” Hadley replied.
The other women in the dressing room, all coming to audition for the stand-in for the lead actress, wore identical
makeup and outfits.
These stand-ins weren't chosen for their distinctive features. Instead, their bodies were the focus.
However, the makeup artists were still struck by Hadley’s noticeable features. Luckily, she was only a stand-in
because her allure might have overshadowed the lead actress otherwise.
After getting ready, the women assembled outside.
Adonis, ever thorough, personally supervised the audition.
Each stand-in performed their dance routine under his watchful eye.
When Hadley’s turn came, Adonis briefly reviewed her file, noting her graduation from Chauncey Academy of
Art and her impressive dance skills.
Yet, it was her remarkable stage presence that truly captured his attention.
“Elvin.”
“Right here!”
“Bring her over,” directed Adonis, pointing at the stage where Hadley was dancing.
“Immediately.”
Elvin, sensing a positive outcome, hurried to retrieve Hadley, who he had recommended.

“Alright.”
Re-examining her file, Adonis confirmed, “Hadley Pearson?”
“Yes.”
Standing confidently with her hands neatly folded, Hadley appeared serene and poised. She stood undisturbed
by the attention.
After all, being visible was part of being a dancer.
“Not bad,” Adonis commended, nodding in approval. “Did you study modern dance?” he inquired.
“Yes, | did.”
“Do you have any other plans besides dancing?”
Hadley hesitated, puzzled by his question. “What exactly do you mean, Mr. Faulkner?”
“Forget it,” Adonis dismissed the topic with a smile.
Though pleased by her appearance, Adonis recognized it was premature for any definite decision. He first
needed to assess her capability in the stand-in role.
Tapping the papers in his hand, he announced, “You're in.”
Surprised, Hadley’s face lit up with a grateful smile. “Thank you so much!”
“Proceed,” Adonis said. “Elvin will fill you in on the details.”
“Thank you for the opportunity, Mr. Faulkner.”
After Hadley had left, Adonis instructed Elvin, retrieving her file, “Keep her top on the list from now on.”
“Do you mean to say-"
“Just ensure she’s here when we need her,” Adonis confirmed with a nod.
“Understood!” Elvin replied enthusiastically. “Hadley will be ecstatic!”
Adonis, recalling her striking look, remarked, “She’s quite the looker and unbelievably photogenic.”
The auditioning women were all professional dancers, many exceptionally skilled.
Yet, filmmaking was more than just skills and techniques.
It demanded a certain charisma, which Hadley naturally possessed.
“She’s been given the chance, now let's see if she could capitalize on it,” Adonis reflected.
“I'll keep an eye on her, since it was | who recommended her,” Elvin assured.
He then delivered the news to Hadley.
“You must seize this opportunity!” He cautioned her with measured words. “Succeed here, and Mr. Faulkner will
surely feature you further.”

“Thank you so much, Mr. Webster.”
“My pleasure.”
With a heart full of hope, Hadley left the studio, her steps buoyant with anticipation, the excitement carrying
her into the evening at Galant.
After an exhaustive day, Phillips entered with pressing news for Eric. “Sir, it appears Hadley actually resides on
West Twelfth Alley.”
Eric’s expression turned grim instantly.
He chuckled briefly, finding shumor in the revelation.
“The exact address has been sent to your phone,” Phillips mentioned, avoiding Eric’s intimidating stare.
“Excellent.”
Eric was checking his phone when it suddenly rang.
“Hello?”
“Hey, bro,” Marshall's voice teased. “Are you headed to Galant tonight?”
“I'm not going.”
Eric felt out of sorts tonight, with more pressing matters at hand.
“Why not? | heard you've been-"
Interrupting Marshall's rambling, Eric snapped, “I'm busy. That's all there is to it.”
With that, he ended the call.
He then directed Phillips, “Give the driver the night off. I'm driving myself.”
“Very well, Mr. Flynn.”
Phillips suspected Eric was intent on confronting Hadley himself.
As predicted, Eric snatched his car keys, descended via the elevator to the underground garage, entered his car,
and headed directly to West Twelfth Alley.
Much like before, his car halted at the alley’s entrance, forcing Eric to proceed on foot.
Guided by the address from Phillips, he eventually stood before Hadley’s building.
“Is this the place?”
Disbelief washed over him as he surveyed the dilapidated apartment building, its dark hallways reeking of decay.
Could anyone actually dwell here?
At the doorstep, Eric paused, his irritation. mounting, and decided to knock.

Despite his persistent knocking, there was no response.
Left with no alternative, Eric attempted to call her. Again, there was no answer.
Eric's frustration boiled over. “Hadley, you owea thorough explanation!”
At Galant, Marshall and Barrie faced each other, Denver sitting alongside.
“Eric really ditched us today?”
“He’s probably wary of our teasing,” Barrie speculated.
Denver, puzzled, inquired, “Why would Eric fear our jests?”
“Really, you haven't noticed?” Marshall replied, eyeing his cousin. “Lately, Eric's been quite taken:
lady.”
“Oh?” Interest sparked in Denver. “Who might that be?”
“There, take a look.” Barrie gestured towards the stage. “It's Miss S right over there.”
Denver's face hardened momentarily.
Luckily, they didn’t notice his brief scowl due to the dim lighting.
Denver then cracked a smile. “Eric's had someone special already, hasn't he?”
“What's the point?” Marshall scoffed. “Given their status, it’s a long shot.”
Barrie exhaled deeply. Ultimately, they felt a sense of contentment for him.
At long last, Eric had found someone captivating, moving past his previous fixation on Linda.
a certain
Barrie exchanged looks with Marshall. “Since he’s not here, we ought to watch out for his girl on his behalf,
right?”
“Absolutely,” Marshall agreed, readying his phone.
“Let's send something her way. Make sure they know it’s coming from Mr. Flynn.”
