The new quest that Arthur had obtained was a Chain Quest and he knew there would be more to come after this.
'At least the progression rewards for this is good enough for my final objectives too…' Arthur thought to himself.
It was actually important for a player to decided whether they really wanted to do a quest or not. If they took a quest and didn't complete it for a long time, it could often lead to a quest failure.
Thus it wasn't like other games where one could keep on taking quests and hoard them before completing them later on. One must only take those quests which they knew they could do.
Or if they did intend to take multiple quests, they should be compatible with each other so that the time frame needed to finish them was appropriate. Arthur recalled just how many players had made the mistake of taking on too many quests and then failing them since they hadn't factored in the time.
This could often lead to a fall in reputation or even direct losses to one's level and status.
Though the latter penalty was mostly for higher class quests and not for basic ones.
"I'll head to see the Resident Mage then, Village Head." Arthur spoke.
"Go… though it might do you good to take a bath before that." The Village Head reminded.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Ah! Yeah. I'll do that." Arthur had almost forgotten that he was still stinking of the sewers.
To resolve this problem first, Arther headed to an inn.
There were three inns in the village, which could be used by the players. Being the newbie village, the inns were of basic quality and it didn't matter which inn one chose. Arthur simply picked the one that was nearest to him.
"Welcome customer! What would you like—" Just as the clerk was greeting Arthur, the stench hit him.
A stiff smile appeared on his face, and Arthur understood.
"I want a room with a bath and a set of clothes, please." Arthur quickly spoke before taking out twenty copper coins.
The cost of inn rooms was relatively cheap, being 10 copper coins and any player could afford it. The extra 10 coins he took out were for a change of clothes as the ones he currently wore were too dirty to use any further.
The use of an inn wasn't absolutely necessary, since the player could technically log out anywhere as there was no such thing as a game save.
The game was active all the time and when one logged back in, they would appear in the same place they had logged out of.
The real function of the inn was to provide a safe place to log in, as well as give one some privacy to organize things. It was also a protected location that the other players could not enter unless they had the key.
Only the other NPCs could do so and even that was limited to a few types of NPCs such as city guards and other officials.
"I'll bring you there at once." The Clerk didn't wish to bear the smell any longer and quickly brought Arthur to the designated room. "You'll have the room for the day." He said before taking his leave.
Creak!
Being a basic inn, the quality of the door wasn't as good either and creaked upon opening. Arthur didn't care though and quickly took a bath using the tub of water that was kept on one corner.
"Can't believe the water is better here than my own apartment…" Arthur muttered to himself.
The water wasn't hot or anything, but was still better than the cold water he got in his apartment. In order to save costs, Arthur had long since given up on heating his apartment, including water.
Arthur quickly washed up and just when he was done, he heard a knock on the door.
"I've brought the change of clothes for you, customer. I'll keep them at the door." The Clerk announced from the outside before leaving.
"Right on time…" Arthur threw the stinky blood stained clothes into the trash before opening the door and taking the fresh ones.
'Fresh would be an overstatement though…' Arthur thought to himself as he looked at the clothes that were not much different than his original ones.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThey were of the same quality as the original clothes and offered basically no protection. Though they still fulfilled the function of covering up one's body so Arthur didn't mind much.
"I should be able to buy some armor too." Arthur muttered to himself.
The Ten silver Coins he had obtained as a reward were more than enough to get some armor for himself, as well as replenish some consumables he had used.
Arthur left the Inn and quickly made his way to the market. He refilled his water flask in the fountain in the center and then reached the market.
The market had several NPCs selling their wares. This ranged from food items to accessories, trinkets and even weapons.
"I'd like twenty loaves of bread, and ten packs of meat jerky, please." Arthur asked one of the vendors.
"That'll be forty copper coins for the bread and another forty copper coins for the meat jerky." The vendor responded.
"Sure." Arthur handed him a single silver coins.
The vendor returned Arthur 20 copper coins, along with the food he had brought.
'These should last me a while.' Arthur didn't wish to buy the food again and again as it would lower his working efficiency.
His next stop was at a vendor that was selling some armor.
Checking through the man's wares, Arthur picked out some Armor pieces that fit in his budget.
'Reinforced Leather armor should be fine for now. I won't be able to get iron armor at this price anyways.' Arthur thought to himself.
In total, he bought a Leather chest armor that was 3 silver coins, leather gloves that were 2 silver coins and leather greaves that were also 2 silver coins.
