Maia paused for a few seconds. Then she said again, her fists clenched tightly, “With that said, I’m not about to let her off easy. I
remembered every single thing she’d done to me vividly.
“When all’s said and done, Zera’s death means nothing to me. I’m merely returning the favor because you saved me last night.
It’s up to you how you’re going to find out her murderer.
He didn’t care about Zera’s fate. The reason he was investigating it was because someone pinned it on Maia, Zera was but a
pawn. The perpetrator only used her to throw Maia under the
bus.
As for Rita, she was going to pay for what she did to Maia. There was no question about it.
He took Maia’s hands in his own and led her across the street. She tried to break free, but Cedric had a firm grip on her. She
looked around and got worried that somebody might record everything on video. So, she pursed her lips and stopped struggling.
Maia shook his hand off as soon as they were in the car. The partition went up momentarily. It was dead quiet in the car until
Cedric broke the silence, “Do you know why I was in Greendale last night?”
Maia shook her head. Oswald was able to carry out his plan because Cedric was there. It took two hours to drive from Greendale
to Prismara Hill.
“Zera was at Prismara Dock before she died.”
Maia was stunned. She asked, “Did you find out something? Why would she appear at Prismara Dock before her death? It’s so
far away from Stonebrook..”
“You can see cargo marked with the Prismara Dock logo in the video the murderer sent you.”
Maia considered it. “Rita has admitted that she hired those men, but she didn’t order them to kill Zera. She merely wanted to
teach her a lesson. The men probably left the dock when they
finished their tasks.
“Or, perhaps they handed Zera over to the murderer. Then, the murderer transported her to Stonebrook via the waterway. Is it
possible he killed Zera and framed me for the murder?”
her!
Cedric praised her. “Clever girl.”
“Still, how did you find out that I was assaulted when you weren’t even at the dock? What gave you the idea Oswald would target
me?” Maia was confused about this too. He came so quickly that it seemed like he knew Oswald’s every move.

“There are hidden cameras in Prismara Hill.” He installed them after Maia’s incident. He was the only one who knew about them.
“D–Did you install hidden cameras that nobody knew about? Did you become suspicious of Oswald by watching them?”
“I don’t usually watch the footage, but I’ll receive a notification if someone cuts the power.”
“I see. Yes, having the power cut would be suspicious. So, you checked the hidden camera and sensed something was amiss.
Did you ask Baz to return to Prismara Hill immediately? Is that what happened?”
“That’s right.” He nodded and said casually, “He was going about a hundred and twenty miles per hour.”
“You’re out of your mind! There was a downpour last night. Do you even know what could happen driving that fast?” Maia was
aware of how difficult it was to drive during rainy days, much less in a downpour at night!
If Baz had lost control of the car, they could’ve fallen off the hill and died!
Cedric smiled and asked her in return, “Well. Do you know how it feels to be at someone’s mercy?”
Her life was his top priority. He could not live without her.
Maia was stunned. She was at a loss for words. She avoided his gaze by looking out the window.
“Cedric,” she said softly, “I’m no longer your wife. I can take care of myself. The Maia whose life revolved around you is long
gone.”
A powerful impact jarred their car out of nowhere.
Crash!
The noise was deafening. They were hit by a container truck that was hurtling at high speeds. before they knew what was
happening.
Maia screamed in terror. At the same time, Cedric held her in his embrace, protecting her with his body. Then, their car flipped
over.
There was dead silence around her. Maia was in a daze. It felt like she was deaf for a moment.
Another loud crash could be heard as the container truck smashed into one of the shops. The ear–shattering sound helped
shock her back to reality...
It was complete chaos out there!Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm

“It’s a car crash!”
“Hello. Is this the hospital? There’s been an accident!”
“Hurry up and help them!”
Pieces of glass were all over where she was. She could feel Cedric breathing steadily, but she had no idea if he was hurt. All she
could feel was the strong embrace of his arms. She felt no pain. She was merely a little dazed.
“Cedric?” Maia called out to him.
“Hmm?” He replied with his deep voice.
“Are you okay?” Maia asked, worried.
“Are you hurt?” Cedric avoided her question. Instead, he was more worried about her.
“I’m fine,” Maia answered. Then she asked him again, “What about you? Are you hurt?”
“I’m fine,” Cedric said nonchalantly. That was when a drop of blood fell onto her forehead. She started to smell the stench of
blood.
“Are you hurt, Cedric?”
“It’s just a flesh wound,” he said casually. He was still holding her tightly, his arms not moving an inch.
“You’re bleeding.” Maia did not understand why, but tears started building in her eyes.
“What’s the matter? Are you worried about me?”
“Can you take this seriously, Cedric? We’re about your life. Why do you always have to act as if it’s no big deal? Life is the most
precious thing we have!”
“You used to revolve your life around me. It’s my turn to do the same now.”
Ever since she left, he did not know the meaning of happiness. He was merely going through the motions every day.
Maia was speechless. Then, she heard him laughing. He said, through gritted teeth, “It’s only fair that way. Don’t you
think?”
Then, he swung one of his arms fiercely at the shattered glass.
“Cedric!” Maia yelled when she saw what he was doing. The pieces of glass pierced through his flesh. His arm was all lacerated.
